You can use a Nintendo Switch Online Family Membership on more than one Nintendo Switch-family console. The membership covers the Nintendo Accounts in the purchaser’s family group—not a particular console—so add each player’s account to the group, then have them use their own account on the console they play on. Nintendo’s US support page says family members do not have to use the same system to access the service: Nintendo Switch Online Family Membership information.
How to set up the membership for multiple Switches
A Family Membership covers up to eight Nintendo Accounts in a Nintendo Account family group. The accounts can use the service on different consoles; there is no single “main” Switch the membership must be attached to.
-
Sign in at accounts.nintendo.com with an account that administers the family group.
-
Open Family group, choose Add a member, then select Invite someone to your family group.

What the family membership covers—and what it does not
Online service access
Membership coverage belongs to accounts in the family group. It is not automatically extended to every local profile on a console where one member plays. If another person needs the membership, add their Nintendo Account to the family group rather than relying on the fact that they share a Switch with a covered player.

Dock your Nintendo Switch to enjoy HD gaming on your TV. Heading out? Just undock your console and keep playing in handheld mode
- This model includes battery life of approximately 4.5 - 9 hours.
- The battery life will depend on the games you play. For instance, the battery will last approximately 5.5 hours for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (games sold separately)
- Model number HAC 001( 01)
Save data on another console
Save Data Cloud is a separate membership feature, and it works only with compatible games. To continue a supported game on another console, use the Nintendo Account associated with the save and download or sync its cloud save there. Automatic save-data downloads must be enabled on each console where you want them. Some games do not support cloud backup. Nintendo explains the service and its limits in the Nintendo Switch Online Service FAQ.
A manual save-data transfer is different: it moves the save from a source console to a target console rather than keeping an ongoing shared save between both. See Nintendo’s save-data transfer guidance before moving a save.

Digital games and game sharing
A Family Membership does not give other family-group members access to the purchaser’s digital game library. Physical game cards can be used in different consoles, while digital purchases follow Nintendo’s separate virtual game card and online-license rules. Nintendo says virtual game cards can be loaded on up to two consoles, with different arrangements applying when using more consoles. See the digital game purchase guidance and Virtual Game Card Guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does everyone need to use the same console?
No. Covered family-group accounts can access Nintendo Switch Online from different consoles. The important setup step is group membership: each person must play using their own Nintendo Account, and that account must be included in the family group. Having multiple users on one console does not by itself make all of them eligible.
