It can modify Java and Bedrock worlds, copy builds between them, fill or replace large areas, delete chunks for regeneration, and convert a world to another supported edition. Work on a duplicate save, keep Minecraft closed while Amulet has the files open, and verify every conversion in a new output world.

What Amulet Editor is—and what it can change
The Amulet Editor FAQ describes Amulet as “a program to externally modify Minecraft save files.” It reads a supported world, displays its terrain in a 3D editor, applies operations to selected blocks or chunks, and writes the result back when you save. It is not a server plugin and it does not edit a world that is currently being used by Minecraft.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Amulet supports released Minecraft Java versions from 1.12 onward and released Bedrock versions from 1.7 onward. Snapshot, beta and preview formats are excluded because their save formats change too frequently. Marketplace worlds are not promised to work, so treat a Marketplace save as unsupported unless the particular world opens correctly and you have a restorable copy.
Typical uses include repairing a damaged area, moving a large build, replacing one block type throughout a selection, changing biome data, waterlogging blocks, removing unwanted terrain and converting between Java and Bedrock. Some data is deliberately not preserved: entities are not currently supported, container contents are not copied, and item support is limited to conversions within the same platform.

Install Amulet and prepare a safe working copy
Choose the correct download
Download the installer that matches your operating system and CPU architecture from the official Amulet site. Windows users can choose the released build or a beta build linked there. The project directs macOS and Linux users to source-based installation; its repository also documents Docker for Linux. If you use a beta build, keep the released installer available so you can return to it if a particular world fails to load.
Close Minecraft before touching the save
Exit Minecraft completely before opening a world in Amulet. Do not leave the world open in a second launcher, pause it on a console, or let a server continue writing to the same directory. Concurrent writes can leave Amulet reading an incomplete region file or Minecraft overwriting changes when it closes.

Make a duplicate before the first edit
Copy the entire world folder to a different location and give the copy a clear name such as MyWorld-amulet-working. Keep the untouched original until you have opened the edited result in Minecraft and checked the affected areas. The Amulet disclaimer says: “We do not expect Amulet to corrupt any worlds but please create copies before editing them.” A portable external SSD is useful when world folders are large, but any separate, reliable storage location works.
Find the save folder
| Edition | Common Windows location | What to copy |
|---|---|---|
| Java Edition | %AppData%/.minecraft/saves |
The folder named for the world |
| Bedrock Edition (newer installations) | %AppData%/Minecraft Bedrock/Users/<user_id>/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds |
The complete folder with its generated name |
| Bedrock Edition (older Microsoft Store installations) | %LocalAppData%/Packages/Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalState/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds |
The complete folder with its generated name |
Bedrock folders often use identifiers rather than the visible world name. Open the folder’s level metadata or inspect it in Amulet to identify the correct save before making a copy.
Open a world in the 3D editor
- Start Amulet and choose the option to open a world.
- Browse to the duplicate Java or Bedrock world folder, select it, and let Amulet index the dimensions and chunks.
- Choose the dimension and use the coordinate controls to move to the area you want to edit. The file panel displays the current coordinates and dimension.
- Make a small test selection, perform a harmless operation, and use
Ctrl+Zto confirm that undo works before making a large change.
Changes remain in Amulet’s editor session until you choose Save. Use Ctrl+S to write them to the copied world, Ctrl+Z to undo an operation and Ctrl+Y to redo one. Close the world from the file panel after saving; then open the folder in Minecraft and inspect it.

Select exactly the blocks or chunks you want to change
Make a rectangular selection
Choose the Select tool and drag between two opposite points to create a box. Hold Ctrl while left-clicking to add additional boxes. Multiple boxes let you select disconnected sections without including the terrain between them. You can drag a box’s corners or edges to resize it, or enter exact coordinates in the selection controls when a build must align to known world coordinates.

Check the dimension and the vertical limits before running an operation. A selection that starts one block too low can replace foundations; a selection that extends above the build can alter the air space needed for redstone or lighting. For a large operation, save a copy of the world again or test the command on a small box first.
Fill a volume with one block
With the desired box or boxes selected, choose Fill and specify the block. Fill writes that block throughout the selected volume, including air, so use it for deliberate clearing as well as construction. To hollow a space, make the outer shell selection first and then use a smaller inner selection with air; do not include the shell in the clearing box.
Replace one block with another
Replace changes only the selected source block to the destination block. It is safer than Fill when you need to preserve everything else in a region—for example, changing a temporary block used as a marker or swapping one type of stone in a mine. Confirm the source and destination fields before applying the operation.
Set a biome or waterlog blocks
Set Biome changes biome data for the selected area; it does not automatically rebuild terrain, trees or structures that would normally generate in that biome. Waterlog applies waterlogging to blocks that support it. Check the result in Minecraft because visual effects and fluid behavior may not be obvious from the editor preview.

Delete chunks for natural regeneration
Chunk tools can delete selected chunks or all unselected chunks. Minecraft will regenerate deleted chunks when a player visits them, using the seed and the world’s generation settings. Deleting chunks permanently removes player-made work in those chunks, so use the duplicate world and record the coordinates before applying it. Avoid selecting neighboring chunks accidentally when the goal is a single damaged area.
Copy and paste a build between worlds
- Open the source world and select every part of the structure, including the required foundation, underground wiring and air clearance. Add separate selection boxes with
Ctrl-click if the build is not rectangular. - Choose Copy, press
Ctrl+C, or use Edit > Copy. - Open the destination world without closing Amulet. Keep both worlds closed in Minecraft.
- Choose Paste, press
Ctrl+V, or use Edit > Paste. Move the preview to the target coordinates before confirming. - Use the rotation, scale or mirror controls when the destination requires a different orientation or footprint.
- Save the destination world, close Amulet, and inspect the build in Minecraft before deleting the source copy.
You do not need to export a file simply to move a build between two worlds. Amulet translates copied data between supported versions and platforms during the copy-and-paste operation. If you do need a portable structure file, the editor guide documents .construction, .schematic, .schem and .mcstructure formats.
Rotation can expose a subtle problem: directional blocks such as stairs retain their previous blockstate after rotation and may face the wrong way. Inspect stairs, doors, rails, pistons, observers, glazed terracotta and other orientation-sensitive blocks in-game. Correct them manually or with a second targeted edit.
Convert a Java world to Bedrock (or the reverse)
Amulet can convert between any two worlds it can open, including Java-to-Java, Bedrock-to-Bedrock and cross-platform conversions. Always convert into a new output world. The conversion process modifies the output world, and using a fresh destination gives you a clean way to compare results with the original.
- Close both worlds in Minecraft and stop any server that might be using either folder.
- Open the input world in Amulet.
- Choose Convert and select the output world or destination folder. Use a new copy rather than the only version of an existing world.
- Run the conversion and wait for Amulet to finish writing all dimensions.
- Close Amulet before opening the converted save in Minecraft.
- Verify the spawn area, several known builds, Nether and End coordinates, and any critical redstone or storage areas.
Conversion is not a perfect one-to-one translation. Entities are not copied, container items are not copied, and the disclaimer says items are currently supported only within the same platform. Some block translations remain incomplete, so unusual blocks, block entities and orientation-dependent designs can change or disappear. Treat the converted world as a new working copy and compare it with the source before publishing or replacing the original.

Edit a Realm world safely
You cannot edit a Realm’s live copy directly through Amulet. In Minecraft, download the Realm world to local storage first. Close the game, locate the downloaded local save, make the duplicate described above, and open that copy in Amulet. After checking the result in a local world, upload the edited save back to the Realm using Minecraft’s Realm management controls. Keep the pre-edit download until every player has confirmed that important builds, inventories and dimensions are present.
Edit a multiplayer server world
- Obtain the server’s world files from the server host or administrator.
- Stop the server for the entire edit. A running server can write region, player and level files while Amulet is changing them.
- Copy the world folder before opening it, then load the copy in Amulet.
- Save and close the world in Amulet when finished.
- If the server runs on another computer, upload the edited folder back to the host, preserving the expected world-folder name and permissions.
- Start the server and have an administrator check several coordinates before allowing normal players to return.
Amulet does not synchronize live server activity, permissions or player sessions. The server must remain stopped until the edited files are back in place.
Limitations and common failure modes
The world will not open
Confirm that Minecraft is closed, that you selected the actual world folder rather than its parent directory, and that the save uses a released Java version from 1.12 onward or Bedrock version from 1.7 onward. Snapshots, betas and previews are unsupported. If the original opens in Minecraft but the copy does not, recreate the copy and check that every file finished copying.
A chunk appears red
A red chunk is unloadable and cannot be modified in Amulet. Do not treat it as an empty area and do not run a broad operation that includes it. Restore the world from a known-good copy or repair the underlying save with a tool designed for that format before attempting another edit.
Blocks or items changed after conversion
Incomplete block translations are expected in some cases. Entities are not supported, container contents are not copied, and cross-platform item preservation is not available. Check chests, furnaces, villagers, pets, minecarts and redstone devices in the converted copy rather than assuming they survived.

The pasted structure looks wrong
Check that the source selection included the full height and all dimensions of the build. For rotated copies, inspect directional blockstates in-game. If the build is offset, undo the paste, enter exact destination coordinates, and paste again instead of moving individual sections by eye.
Changes are missing after reopening Minecraft
Make sure you used Save after the operation and closed the world from Amulet before launching Minecraft. Reopen the copied folder in Amulet to confirm that the edit was written; if it was not, repeat the operation on a fresh working copy.
A practical editing checklist
- Identify the edition and exact Minecraft release; avoid snapshots, betas and previews.
- Close Minecraft, Realm downloads and servers that could write to the save.
- Copy the complete world folder and keep the untouched original separate.
- Open the duplicate and confirm the dimension and coordinates.
- Use the smallest selection that accomplishes the job; add boxes with
Ctrl-click for irregular builds. - Test a small operation and confirm Undo before a large Fill, Replace or chunk deletion.
- For copying, include foundations and underground components, then inspect directional blocks after rotation.
- For conversion, choose a new output world and check all important dimensions and storage areas.
- Save with
Ctrl+S, close Amulet, and verify the result in Minecraft. - Retain the original and the pre-edit copy until the world has been played successfully.
When Amulet is the right tool
| Task | Amulet approach | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Edit Java and Bedrock saves | Open the supported world folder in the 3D editor | Released Java 1.12+ and Bedrock 1.7+ only; snapshots, betas and previews are unsupported |
| Bulk block changes | Use Fill or Replace on one or more selections | Fill also writes air, so selection boundaries matter |
| Move a build | Copy and paste between open worlds | Rotated directional blocks may retain their old orientation |
| Regenerate terrain | Delete selected or unselected chunks | Deleted player work is lost and Minecraft regenerates chunks on visit |
| Change editions | Use Convert with a new output world | Entities and container items are not preserved; some blocks translate incompletely |
| Edit a Realm or server | Download or stop the world, edit locally, then upload or replace files | There is no live synchronization with Amulet |
For Java-only in-game editing, a command or a Java-focused editor may be more convenient when you need live multiplayer permissions or entity manipulation. Amulet is most useful when you need an external, visual editor that can work across supported Java and Bedrock save formats and perform large, coordinate-based changes outside the game.
Final verification before you return to normal play
Open the edited copy in the same Minecraft edition and release family that Amulet supports. Visit every changed area, test doors and redstone, open representative containers, check player spawn and portals, and look at the edges of any filled or deleted selection. For a Realm or server, have a second player confirm that the world loads from a normal account. Only after those checks should you replace an older local copy or upload the result.
