You can use an Xbox One Elite controller with a PS4 through a controller adapter; it does not pair natively as a PS4 controller. Cronus documents a specific setup for the original Elite v1, Model 1698, using Cronus Zen. Its guide estimates 2–3 minutes for setup, but that is the manufacturer’s estimate, not a tested time.
Which Elite controller does the documented setup support?
Cronus’s Xbox One Elite-to-PS4 setup guide is specifically for Xbox One Elite v1 Model 1698. It does not establish compatibility with every controller sold as an Elite, so check your controller’s model and the adapter maker’s compatibility information before proceeding.
Set up an Elite v1 with Cronus Zen
- Update the adapter software. Update Cronus Zen firmware and Zen Studio as directed by Cronus.
- Connect Zen to the PS4. Turn on the console using its power button, then connect Zen to the PS4 by USB. If you have a PS4 Pro, use a rear USB port.
- Connect the authentication controller. Plug an officially licensed PS4 controller into Zen’s A1 port and leave it connected during crossover play. Cronus’s current PS4 support guide specifies a DualShock 4 v2 for authentication; it says a v1 does not work for this purpose.
- For wireless Xbox-controller use, sync the adapter. Cronus requires an Xbox One Wireless Adapter for wireless Xbox-controller support. Plug it into Zen’s A3 port, briefly connect the Xbox controller to A2 to sync it, then disconnect the controller. Wait until the adapter and controller lights are solid white.
The Xbox Wireless Adapter is a requirement for the wireless route; the cited guides do not establish it as necessary for every possible wired arrangement. Follow the adapter maker’s current instructions for the connection method you plan to use.

What to check before playing
- Do not rely on Bluetooth pairing alone. The cited Xbox-to-PS4 setup guides use adapter hardware rather than establishing direct Xbox Elite pairing with the console.
- Headset audio can vary. Cronus says audio support depends on the controller, console, and connection combination; do not assume every setup supports headset audio. See its PS4 support information and Cronus guidance.
- Online-service rules may matter. Cronus warns that game developers may limit or block accounts when third-party devices are used with online services, and it does not guarantee an outcome. This is a general vendor warning, not proof that a particular game bans these adapters. Check the rules for the game you play. Cronus FAQ.
