If GTA V shows ERR_MEM_EMBEDDEDALLOC_ALLOC or “Out of game memory. Please reboot and restart the game,” try five checks: update the game, update your graphics driver, verify the game files, check runtime installations only when symptoms point to them, and inspect diagnostic logs before changing hardware or mod files. Rockstar recommends several of these steps for general PC problems, but does not identify them as guaranteed fixes for this specific error.
What the GTA V memory error tells you
The code ERR_MEM_EMBEDDEDALLOC_ALLOC is associated in community error-code listings with the message “Out of game memory. Please reboot and restart the game.” Related ERR_MEM_EMBEDDEDALLOC variants are listed with “Game memory error. Please reboot and restart the game.” Those words identify an allocation or memory-related error message; they do not establish whether the cause is the game installation, a system condition, or a mod configuration. GTAForums’ error-code list is community material, not a diagnosis from Rockstar.
Rockstar’s general GTA V PC troubleshooting guide, last updated October 7, 2025, recommends patching, updating graphics drivers, verifying files, and examining diagnostics for PC problems. It does not specifically diagnose ERR_MEM_EMBEDDEDALLOC_ALLOC or promise these steps will resolve it.
Five checks to try
1. Update GTA V
Connect to the internet and launch the game through the launcher that owns your installation, allowing it to check for and apply the current patch. Rockstar recommends keeping the PC game up to date as part of general troubleshooting. This is a sensible first check, not a confirmed fix for this particular code.

2. Update the graphics driver
Install the current driver for the computer’s NVIDIA or AMD graphics card using the appropriate manufacturer’s driver source. Rockstar recommends current video drivers for general PC issues. That advice is not evidence that an outdated driver causes this memory error, but it can rule out a common software issue before you make more disruptive changes.
3. Verify GTA V’s game files
Use the verification option in the launcher where the game is installed. Rockstar documents verification for the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and Epic Games Launcher in its instructions for error code 134. That article addresses code 134; file verification is a general integrity check, not a Rockstar-prescribed or guaranteed fix for ERR_MEM_EMBEDDEDALLOC_ALLOC.

Launcher labels can change. If a label differs in your version, look for the game’s file-integrity or verification option in its settings.
4. Check DirectX or Visual C++ only if the symptoms fit
Do not assume every memory error is a runtime problem. Rockstar notes that DirectX or Visual C++ errors may indicate an issue with those installations and points users to the game’s Redistributables folder. If you are also seeing a DirectX or Visual C++ error, consult Rockstar’s PC troubleshooting guidance and use the relevant files in GTA V’s Redistributables folder. If those symptoms are absent, this step is not a reason by itself to reinstall runtimes.

5. Inspect diagnostics before changing hardware or mods
Rockstar’s general troubleshooting guide identifies the launcher log at DocumentsRockstar GamesGTAVlauncher.log and recommends using DxDiag and MSInfo to look for crash indicators. Review the log around the time of the error and note whether it coincides with a crash or another reported issue. If you contact support, provide the relevant diagnostic information through Rockstar’s support process rather than relying on the error text alone.
If the game is modded, establish whether the error occurs in an unmodded setup before changing mod files or adding utilities. A third-party GTA Gamer tutorial published December 8, 2019 suggests Heap Adjuster and companion configuration utilities for a mod-oriented setup. That is community advice, not a Rockstar recommendation, and its compatibility with current GTA V builds is not established. Treat it as a version-sensitive avenue only after confirming that mods are involved; do not assume it applies to an unmodded game.

Does the error mean you need more RAM?
Not by itself. Rockstar’s system requirements, last updated December 10, 2025, list different RAM figures by edition: GTA V Enhanced has an 8 GB minimum and 16 GB dual-channel recommended; GTA V Legacy has a 4 GB minimum and 8 GB recommended. These are edition-specific requirements, not evidence that buying more RAM fixes ERR_MEM_EMBEDDEDALLOC_ALLOC. Check which edition you run and compare your system with its requirements, but the error message alone is not grounds for a hardware purchase.
Quick Recap
In what order should you troubleshoot?
- Update the game and graphics driver.
- Verify the game files using the launcher that owns the installation.
- If DirectX or Visual C++ errors appear too, check the relevant runtime files in the game’s Redistributables folder.
- Review the launcher log and system diagnostics before changing hardware or game configuration.
- If you use mods, investigate the modded setup separately; community utilities such as Heap Adjuster are not verified here for current builds.
