To use Baritone, install a build that matches your Minecraft version and mod loader, launch that profile, then enter commands in chat with the default # prefix. Start with #goto 1000 500 to path to coordinates, #mine diamond_ore to mine a block type, #stop to cancel, and #help to see commands available in your installed build.
Install the Baritone build that matches your Minecraft setup
Baritone is a client-side pathfinding mod. The official Baritone project links to setup instructions and loader-specific builds. Follow the official setup guide to match the build to both your exact Minecraft version and the loader you use: Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge. Version mappings and available builds can change, so do not assume a download for one game release works with another.
- Check your Minecraft version and which mod loader that installation launches.
- Use the setup guide’s version mapping and download the Baritone artifact for that loader. For ordinary mod use, choose the corresponding Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge build—not an API, standalone, unoptimized, or no-loader artifact intended for a different use.
- Install the file as a mod using your loader’s usual process, then launch the matching Minecraft profile.
- Open chat and enter
#help. If the command list appears, Baritone is responding.
The setup guide’s Java recommendations are version-specific: Java 17 for Minecraft 1.18.2–1.20.4, Java 21 for 1.20.5–1.21.11, and Java 25 for 26.1–26.3. These recommendations are from the project setup guide viewed in 2026; check it again for releases newer than those listed. The guide also warns that official prebuilt releases are made infrequently and may not include the newest features or fixes.
Enter commands with the default prefix
In the default configuration, start Baritone commands with # in Minecraft chat. The prefix helps distinguish a command from ordinary chat. Client integrations or changed settings can affect chat control, so verify which control method is active before entering commands where other players can see chat. The official usage guide documents the prefix, commands, and settings.

Try the basic navigation and mining commands
Path to coordinates
Enter #goto 1000 500 to path to X=1000, Z=500. This is Baritone’s getting-started example; it specifies horizontal coordinates, not a Y-level. Baritone sets the goal and begins pathing. To set a goal without immediately starting the path, use #goal x z or #goal x y z, then enter #path. Use #goal clear to clear the current goal.
Mine a block
Enter #mine diamond_ore to target that block type. The usage guide also documents a quantity form, #mine 10 diamond_ore, for requesting a number of blocks. Use the block name recognized by the installed version; mining behavior can also depend on the legitMine setting.

Stop or inspect commands
Enter #stop or #cancel to cancel the current activity. Enter #help for the installed build’s command list and descriptions; the usage guide also describes tab completion. Commands can vary by version and client integration, so in-game help is the best check for what your setup supports.
Other useful Baritone commands
These commands are documented in the project usage guide. Check #help in your installation for exact syntax supported by your build.

Baritone’s settings affect movement and block interactions. The usage guide names options including allowBreak, allowSprint, allowPlace, allowParkour, avoidance, legitMine, and blocksToAvoidBreaking. Review relevant settings before starting automation so its behavior matches what you intend to permit.
According to the usage guide, entering a boolean setting name toggles it, numeric settings accept a value, and settings can be reset. Consult the guide or #help for the syntax and current value behavior in your version rather than assuming a particular setting is enabled or optimal.

If Baritone does not respond
- Confirm it is installed. Check that Baritone is in the mods for the Minecraft profile you actually launched, and that the build matches the game version and loader.
- Check the command prefix. Try a command beginning with
#, such as#help, in chat. - Check chat-control settings. Some client integrations alter direct chat control. Use the active integration’s supported method or review Baritone’s saved settings.
- Use configuration reset only as a last resort. The usage guide says settings are stored in the Minecraft Baritone settings file and that deleting this file and relaunching can restore defaults if all control methods were disabled. This also resets settings, so first try the installation and prefix checks.
