To import a script, use the Scripts tab in the separate legacy Streamlabs Chatbot application—not a verified scripting feature in the current Streamlabs Desktop editor. Streamlabs’ instructions describe the Chatbot app’s own workflow, and its current product pages do not establish that the same workflow is available in Streamlabs Desktop. See Streamlabs’ Chatbot Scripts guide and Chatbot product page.
Before you start: identify which Streamlabs app you have
Streamlabs uses similar product names for different tools. The script-import instructions apply to Streamlabs Chatbot, which has a Scripts tab. They do not confirm that the current Streamlabs Desktop editor includes that tab or supports this Python script workflow.
The instructions below document the legacy Chatbot process. Streamlabs’ script article was published August 5, 2020 and last updated April 25, 2025. Its FAQ was first published November 23, 2017 and last updated April 10, 2025. Those dates matter: the available guidance is legacy documentation, and whether the current Chatbot release still supports this setup should be checked before installing an obsolete runtime.
What you need for the legacy script-import workflow
- The separate Streamlabs Chatbot application, with its bot and streamer accounts connected.
- A script distributed as a ZIP file from a source you trust.
- The legacy Python configuration specified by Streamlabs: Python 2.7.13, 32-bit (x86), with the Scripts settings pointing to its
Libfolder.
Streamlabs’ FAQ warns against Python 3 and 64-bit Python for this legacy setup. Python 2.7.13 is obsolete guidance, not a general recommendation for new software. Do not install it solely on the assumption that it is required by today’s Streamlabs Desktop; first verify that the separate Chatbot app and its documented workflow are still appropriate for your system.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How to import a script into Streamlabs Chatbot
- Install the documented Python version, if you have verified you need this legacy workflow. Use Python 2.7.13 in the 32-bit/x86 edition, not Python 3 or x64. The version and architecture requirements come from Streamlabs’ Chatbot FAQ and troubleshooting page.
- Open Streamlabs Chatbot and select the Scripts tab. This is a Chatbot application workflow; do not look for the same controls in Streamlabs Desktop unless your installed version explicitly provides them.
- Open the Scripts settings. Select the gear/settings control in the Scripts tab. Set Python 2.7.13 Directory to the Python installation’s
Libfolder. Streamlabs givesC:Python27Libas an example path; your installation may use a different location. ChooseLib, notLibs. - Import the ZIP. In the Scripts tab, choose Import and select the script ZIP. Follow any setup details provided by the script author, but do not assume an imported script has been reviewed or certified by Streamlabs.
- Check the script’s status and errors. Use the Scripts tab’s error view if it does not load or behave as expected. Correct the Python version or
Lib-folder path if the error indicates a runtime or configuration problem.
Choose scripts carefully
Streamlabs recommends obtaining scripts through its Chatbot Discord or from someone you know well. That recommendation is not a security audit or a guarantee that a particular download is safe. Review the source and the script’s purpose before importing it; avoid running unfamiliar code with elevated permissions or bypassing security warnings.
Troubleshooting common problems
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| The Scripts tab is missing | Confirm you opened Streamlabs Chatbot rather than the Streamlabs Desktop editor. In Chatbot, check that both the bot and streamer accounts are connected; Streamlabs’ FAQ identifies disconnected accounts as a possible reason the tab is absent. |
| The ZIP will not import or the script reports an error | Open the Scripts tab’s error view. Check that the legacy setup uses Python 2.7.13 in 32-bit/x86 form and that Python 2.7.13 Directory points to its Lib folder, not Libs. |
Your Python folder is not at C:Python27Lib |
That is Streamlabs’ example path, not a universal location. Find the Lib folder inside the Python installation you configured and select that folder. |
| You are using Python 3 or 64-bit Python | The legacy FAQ says this Chatbot setup expects Python 2.7.13 and warns against Python 3 or x64. Because that runtime is obsolete, verify current compatibility before changing or installing software. |
| You only see dashboard-based bot controls | You may be using Cloudbot, which is a separate workflow. Its guide covers enabling Cloudbot online, assigning platform permissions, and configuring commands in a dashboard; it does not say that Cloudbot imports Python scripts. |
Cloudbot is a different option, not a script importer
If you need commands or bot functions rather than a particular Python script, Streamlabs’ Cloudbot setup guide describes enabling it online, assigning permissions, and creating commands from the dashboard. The documented setup is distinct from importing a ZIP into the legacy Chatbot Scripts tab. The guide does not claim Cloudbot runs imported Python scripts.

Streamlabs’ legacy FAQ describes desktop Chatbot as Windows-only and says it must remain open and connected to stay in chat. Those limits are attributed to that FAQ, last updated April 10, 2025; they should not be generalized to every current Streamlabs service.
