Cheats work differently on a BisectHosting Minecraft server depending on whether it runs Java Edition or Bedrock Edition. On Java, use the Starbase panel to grant a player operator (OP) status. On Bedrock, enable Allow Cheats in Server Properties, then grant OP separately if a command requires it.
First, identify your Minecraft edition
Use the Java or Bedrock instructions below; the controls are not interchangeable. The server-properties guides cited here document defaults for Minecraft 1.21.9. If your server runs another version, check the labels and settings shown in your panel.

Java Edition: grant a player OP
BisectHosting’s Java instructions use operator permissions rather than a separate Allow Cheats switch. OP gives a player access to commands according to the server’s operator permission level.
- Log in to the BisectHosting Starbase panel.
- Open the Console tab.
- Enter
op PlayerName, replacingPlayerNamewith the player’s in-game name. To remove OP later, enterdeop PlayerName.
Change the Java OP permission level
If the player has OP but cannot use a command, check the permission level. Stop the server, open Settings > Server Properties, choose the desired OP Permission Level, then start the server again. BisectHosting’s Java server-properties guide lists op-permission-level=4 as the default for Minecraft 1.21.9; this is a version-specific documented default, not a guarantee for every server.

Bedrock Edition: enable Allow Cheats
- Log in to the Starbase panel and stop the server.
- Open Settings > Server Properties.
- Set Allow Cheats to
True. - Start the server again.

Grant Bedrock OP if a command needs it
Turning on Allow Cheats and giving a player command permission are distinct steps. If the player cannot run a particular command, check whether it requires OP. BisectHosting’s documented procedure requires the player to be online and uses their Xbox Live Gamertag. In the panel Console, enter op "XboxLiveGamertag"; to revoke OP, use deop "XboxLiveGamertag". These are examples, not a guarantee that every command or argument works on every server. Syntax and permissions can vary by edition, server version, plugins or mods. Use /help or the command documentation for your server’s edition.
Command blocks are optional
Command blocks automate commands in-game when activated by redstone; they are not required for ordinary player commands. An operator is needed to obtain them.
