Crusader Kings III cheats are primarily a PC debug-mode feature. In a non-Ironman game, enabling debug mode exposes a developer console where you can run commands for testing, mod development, and controlled experimentation. The maintained command reference reviewed for this guide was last verified for version 1.19, while Paradox’s official examples document commands added in patch 1.5. Those version labels matter: a command can be renamed, removed, or behave differently after an update.
PlayStation and Xbox editions have their own controls and achievement systems, but the official console material does not document the same general-purpose player command console. Do not assume a PC command or keyboard shortcut works on a console edition.

Cheat support at a glance
| Question | What is established | What remains uncertain |
|---|---|---|
| Where is the debug console documented? | On PC, with debug mode enabled, in a non-Ironman game. | The exact launcher screens and command behavior can change between versions. |
| Which version should I compare? | A community command reference labels its list “Last verified for version 1.19.” | That label is not an official Paradox compatibility guarantee. |
| Do the commands work on PlayStation or Xbox? | No general player cheat console is documented in the official console diaries. | This does not prove that no workaround exists; it means there is no supported basis for promising one. |
| Are achievements preserved? | CK3 has achievements on PC and consoles. | The sources reviewed do not establish whether current debug-mode use disables achievement eligibility. |
What CK3 “cheats” actually are
CK3 does not have a separate cheat menu presented as a normal gameplay option. The practical PC system is a developer debug mode. When it is active, a text console accepts internal commands. The same tool can make a siege finish immediately, bypass a requirement while testing a mod, complete schemes, change the date, or invoke artificial-intelligence testing routines.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →That design explains why many commands are better understood as testing tools than as polished quality-of-life cheats. Paradox programmer Matthew wrote in Dev Diary #87, published in the context of patch 1.5: “We have added a variety of new console commands in 1.5 to help make creating and testing mods a bit easier.” The wording is important. The official list is a historical set of examples, not a promise that every command remains available or that every command is intended for ordinary campaigns.
#1 Best Overall
- Take command of your house and expand your dynasty through a meticulously researched Middle Ages.
- Discover a sprawling simulated world teeming with peasants and knights, courtiers, spies, knaves and jesters, and secret love affairs.
- Explore a vast medieval map stretching from the snowswept Nordic lands to the Horn of Africa, and the British Isles in the west to the exotic riches of Burma in the east.
- Each character is larger than life, with traits and lifestyle choices determining their actions and schemes.
- Groom your heir with the appropriate guardians or educate them yourself. If found wanting, marry them off or despatch them through other means.
How to enable the PC debug console
Debug mode is disabled by default. Launcher labels and locations change, so use the current PC launcher’s game-settings or launch-options control rather than relying on an old screenshot. The goal is to start CK3 with its debug mode enabled.
- Make a test copy of your campaign. Do this before changing a valued save. Debug commands can alter characters, wars, dates, schemes, and other state in ways that are difficult to undo.
- Start a non-Ironman game. The maintained command reference states that the console is available in non-Ironman games while debug mode is active. If the campaign is Ironman, begin a separate non-Ironman test campaign instead of trying to convert your main save.
- Enable debug mode in the current PC launcher. Open CK3’s launcher settings or game launch-options area and select the debug-mode control or argument provided for your installed build. Because this interface is version-sensitive, verify the label in the launcher you are actually using.
- Launch the game and load the test campaign. Confirm that debug mode is active before investing time in experiments.
- Open the console with the shortcut that matches your keyboard. The reference lists
Shift+2,Alt+2+1, andShift+3, along with keys that vary by keyboard layout. If one combination does nothing, try the alternatives and check which key produces the console on your layout.
There is no single universal keyboard key. US, UK, European, and other layouts can place the console character in different locations. A shortcut that works on one keyboard may open nothing on another, even when the game version is identical.
Entering a command without damaging your campaign
- Pause the game before making a change that could trigger time, AI, or war outcomes.
- Open the debug console and type the command exactly as documented, including underscores, periods, and capitalization where shown.
- Press Enter and watch for an on-screen response or an observable state change. Some testing commands are silent when they succeed.
- Close the console, inspect the result, and save only if you intend to keep the altered state.
- If the effect is wrong, quit without overwriting the original test copy and reload it.
Do not assume that a command’s name tells you its complete syntax. The sources establish command names and broad purposes, but they do not provide a current parameter manual for every entry. Use the command reference that matches your installed version for required IDs, values, or arguments; do not guess an argument in a valuable save.

Commands documented by Paradox or the maintained reference
The following table separates the command names that appear in the supplied material from claims about current compatibility. Dev Diary #87 lists these as additions or examples associated with patch 1.5. The maintained community reference marks its broader list as last verified for version 1.19. Neither fact makes every command guaranteed on a later build.
| Command | Documented purpose or effect | How to treat it |
|---|---|---|
bypass_requirements (alias bypass) |
Bypasses requirements when testing actions or content. | Useful for mod and scenario testing; do not interpret it as a universal character or technology unlock. |
instasiege |
Instantly resolves a siege. | Use on a disposable save because it can change war balance immediately. |
complete_schemes |
Completes schemes. | Check the resulting state before saving; the command may affect several active schemes. |
guaranteed_scheme_success and guaranteed_scheme_failure |
Guarantee success or failure for schemes. | These are outcome controls, not a promise of secrecy or safety. |
| Guaranteed scheme-secrecy success and failure commands | Force the secrecy result associated with a scheme. | The diary describes these as separate testing additions; verify the exact command spelling in your version. |
save_every |
Controls the save interval for testing. | It is a testing convenience, not a character cheat. |
AI.try_send_decision |
Tests an AI decision send. | Intended for AI and mod testing; required arguments are version-dependent. |
AI.try_send_interaction |
Tests an AI interaction send. | Use only when you understand the interaction being invoked. |
Ironman.ToggleIgnore |
An Ironman-related testing toggle listed by Paradox. | Its presence does not establish that achievements remain eligible. |
ToggleShowAllKillers |
Toggles display of all killers in relevant character information. | A visibility aid rather than a direct power or resource change. |
set_date |
Changes the in-game date. | Date changes can advance or invalidate time-sensitive situations; test separately. |
Paradox’s list also says “among other additions,” so it is not a complete inventory. Conversely, a community list is not an official policy document. Treat the version number printed next to the list as a compatibility clue and recheck after every major update.
Can debug mode cheat an innovation?
Players often ask how to use debug mode to cheat an innovation. The documented material does not establish an innovation-specific command that instantly grants a technology. Neither bypass_requirements nor set_date is documented as an innovation unlock command. Using a similar-looking command name from an unrelated game or an old mod can produce an error or an unintended state change.

If your purpose is mod testing, use the documented requirement-bypass and date-testing tools only for the behavior they describe, then verify the innovation in the actual scenario you are building. If your purpose is a normal campaign, there is no confirmed command in the supplied references that safely awards a chosen innovation. Keep the test separate from an achievement-oriented save.
Why a command may fail
- Debug mode is not active: Recheck the launcher’s current launch-options setting, then restart the game.
- The campaign is Ironman: The reference specifically describes console use in non-Ironman games. Load or create a non-Ironman test campaign.
- The shortcut is wrong for your keyboard: Try the documented alternatives—
Shift+2,Alt+2+1, andShift+3—and account for your layout. - The command was removed or renamed: Compare your installed build with the reference’s “last verified for version 1.19” label and with newer patch notes.
- The syntax needs arguments: Do not improvise IDs or values. Consult a version-matched command reference for the exact form.
- You are playing on a console: PC debug-console instructions are not evidence of a PlayStation or Xbox interface.
- The effect is silent: Pause, inspect the relevant character, war, scheme, or date, and test on a fresh save before concluding that nothing happened.
PlayStation and Xbox: what is and is not documented
Keep the console editions separate from PC instructions. Paradox’s console developer diary discusses controller navigation, console-specific features, and achievements, but it does not document a general player cheat console equivalent to the PC debug console. The PC command reference therefore cannot be used as a promise that a PlayStation or Xbox player can enter instasiege, complete_schemes, or any other command.
This is an evidence boundary, not a claim that every possible workaround is impossible. It means you should not install a PC guide’s launcher instructions on a console, search for a nonexistent keyboard shortcut, or risk a valuable console save on the assumption that a hidden command exists.

- As King or Emperor, watch as your personal throne room comes to life with the vast range of drama and intrigue of your court. Step into a fully 3D realized space, available in one of four major cultural visual styles, and fill it with regalia and majesty.
- Harsh or benevolent, pass judgment on those seeking arbitration. Hold court and watch as your courtiers scheme and vie for your attention.
- Match yourself against your greatest rival with your court’s grandeur. Or fail to impress them and suffer the sad diplomatic consequences of bad taste.
- Show off your exquisitely crafted relics, or focus on your noble house’s history with your family heirlooms.
- Talented craftspeople, from jewelers to weavers, can be employed on special projects, adding even more unique items to your domain.
Achievements, Ironman, and save safety
Official material confirms that CK3 has achievements on PC and console editions. The reviewed sources do not settle whether current debug-mode use disables achievements, whether a particular toggle changes that behavior, or whether eligibility returns after debug mode is turned off. Treat achievement status as unverified rather than assuming either outcome.
For an achievement-oriented campaign, use a clean save and avoid experimenting in it. Create a separate non-Ironman test campaign, keep backups outside the game’s normal overwrite cycle, and record which commands you used. The command Ironman.ToggleIgnore is listed as a testing addition, but its name alone is not proof of achievement preservation.

Version context you should check before using a code
The most useful version markers are not interchangeable:
Best Value
- Deeply rich in Muslim and Christian history, culture and people, the Iberian peninsula’s medieval saga is ready to be shaped by your majestic hand in Crusader Kings III: Fate of Iberia flavor pack.
- Step into your fully immersive court with Crusader Kings: Royal Court, and watch as your throne room comes to life with a vast range of drama and intrigue.
- Ferocious raiders from a frigid north or a complex society filled with intrepid explorers, traders, and poets? Discover the true richness of the Norse world with Crusader Kings III: Northern Lords
- The Crusader Kings III: Expansion Pass also gifts the Fashion of the Abbasid Court cosmetic pack, granting your court a dashing new look with outfits and clothing inspired by Middle Eastern and North African cultures.
- Patch 1.5: Dev Diary #87 is an official historical source for the command additions and their mod-testing rationale.
- Version 1.19: The maintained community reference labels its command list as last verified for this version. That is the freshest version marker in the supplied material, but it is still a community verification label.
- April 2026: Paradox announced Chapter V as a major free update accompanied by future expansion plans. That announcement is product context, not a command list or compatibility guarantee.
After a game update, check the launcher build number, read the current command reference, and test one harmless command in a disposable campaign before relying on a longer script. A command that worked in 1.19 may require a different argument—or no longer exist—after a later patch.
Best practice for mod creators
Debug commands are most defensible when they shorten a repeatable test. Use bypass_requirements to reach content that is otherwise gated, scheme and siege commands to exercise outcome branches, AI test commands to validate interactions, and set_date to reach time-dependent events. Keep a written test checklist, reset to a clean save between cases, and distinguish a command-induced result from behavior produced by your mod.
For ordinary role-play, use the same discipline: one change at a time, pause before executing it, inspect the result, and never overwrite the only copy of a campaign you value.

The Bottom Line
For reliable, documented cheating in Crusader Kings III, use the PC debug console in a non-Ironman test game and match every command to your installed version. Console editions do not have a documented equivalent command interface, and achievement behavior remains unverified, so protect important saves and treat every experiment as disposable.
