Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →FFmpeg’s concat demuxer can play prerecorded files one after another into a YouTube Live stream, but it schedules media order—not calendar times. Prepare compatible files, list them in a plain-text ffconcat script, then send that input to YouTube’s ingest URL with your stream key. You still manage the broadcast separately in YouTube Live Control Room, and neither the script nor the cited YouTube documentation guarantees indefinite uptime.
What a concat file does—and what it does not do
The concat demuxer reads a text script and processes its listed files sequentially. FFmpeg adjusts timestamps so each file follows the previous one, although gaps can occur when the streams within files have different lengths. This gives you a defined sequence of blocks; it does not start a particular block at a specified clock time or create a YouTube broadcast event.
Think of the workflow as two separate controls: the ffconcat script describes the media sequence, while YouTube Live Control Room or the YouTube API manages the broadcast. A script is not a wall-clock scheduler, and an FFmpeg process is not guaranteed to run forever or recover unattended from a process or network failure.
Check your files before using the concat demuxer
Compatibility is the main constraint. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation says, “All files must have the same streams (same codecs, same time base, etc.).” See FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation. Check every block’s stream layout, codecs, and time bases before relying on file-level concatenation. Arbitrary MP4 files are not necessarily compatible just because they share a filename extension.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Use the concat demuxer when the inputs meet its stream compatibility requirements and you want FFmpeg to process them in sequence.
- Use the concat filter and re-encode when the inputs need to be reconciled. FFmpeg’s FAQ identifies the concat filter as the recommended route when re-encoding is needed; the demuxer is an option where file-level concatenation is unavailable. See FFmpeg’s concat FAQ.
Also check duration metadata. The demuxer uses each file’s duration to position following files, so inaccurate duration information can produce timestamp artifacts or unintended transitions.
Build an ffconcat script in playback order
- Create a plain-text file. Put this exact signature on the first line if you want FFmpeg to recognize the format automatically:
ffconcat version 1.0. Do not add leading spaces or a byte-order mark. - Add one file directive per block in the order you want them to play. For example:
ffconcat version 1.0 file 'block-01.mp4' file 'block-02.mp4' file 'block-03.mp4' - Save it alongside the media or use appropriate paths. Escape spaces and special characters in file paths according to FFmpeg’s concat script syntax. Make sure the FFmpeg process can read both the script and every listed file.
- Review the sequence before streaming. Verify file names, intended order, and media boundaries. A concat script describes the order of inputs; it does not change a file at a human-selected clock time.
Use duration and cut-point directives carefully
Add a duration directive only when a file’s reported duration is missing or inaccurate. The value overrides the duration FFmpeg reads from that file and affects where the next file begins. Confirm the real media length and intended transition before specifying it; an incorrect override can shift subsequent timestamps.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The inpoint and outpoint directives can select portions of a file. Use them only after checking the desired cut against the actual media. For directive syntax and timestamp behavior, consult the concat demuxer documentation.
Send the sequence to YouTube Live
- Get the ingest details from YouTube Studio. Use the YouTube stream URL and stream key provided for your live setup. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it in a command, script, screenshot, or public repository.
- Configure FFmpeg’s output. Feed the concat input to the output encoder and destination configured for your YouTube ingest. The exact command depends on your FFmpeg build, input paths, stream compatibility, and chosen encoding path; do not assume that stream-copy output works with every set of files.
- Start FFmpeg and check YouTube’s preview. Confirm that the incoming picture and sound are correct in Live Control Room before proceeding.
- Use YouTube’s Go live action when appropriate. Sending media to the ingest endpoint and starting or managing the broadcast are distinct steps in YouTube’s documented workflow. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
YouTube represents a broadcast event (liveBroadcast) separately from its transport/configuration resource (liveStream). The API’s 24/7 broadcast example illustrates that the broadcast and incoming feed are not the same thing: a second broadcast can be started for an interview while the continuing feed remains available. See YouTube Live Streaming API documentation. Changing the concat input sequence and managing a YouTube event are therefore different operational tasks.

Plan for repeats, monitoring, and archives separately
The concat script establishes a finite ordered sequence of listed inputs; it is not by itself a repeating calendar schedule, a monitoring system, or a recovery mechanism. Plan separately how the sequence will be repeated or changed, who will monitor the encoder and YouTube preview, and what you will do if FFmpeg or the connection stops. The reviewed documentation does not promise that the process will run indefinitely or restart automatically.
Do not assume that an unbroken 24/7 feed will become one archived replay. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish the same archive outcome for a longer continuous stream.
