Friends can look for the world under Multiplayer; if it does not appear, try Direct Connection with the host’s Hamachi IPv4 address and the port Minecraft displays in chat. That address-and-port fallback is a practical troubleshooting step, not a connection method explicitly guaranteed by Hamachi or Minecraft.
Before you start: check edition and version
This guide covers a Java Edition LAN world. Everyone needs a compatible Minecraft edition and version: Java players join Java games, while Bedrock players need a Bedrock world or server. Minecraft states that the version being played must match the server’s version in its server connection guide.
- Each player needs Minecraft Java Edition and Hamachi installed and running.
- The host must keep Minecraft open with the LAN world running.
- Only invite people you trust to the Hamachi network; its members share access to a private virtual network.
Create a Hamachi network and invite friends
- On the host’s computer, open Hamachi and select Network > Create a new network.
- Enter a network ID and password, then create the network.
- On each guest’s computer, open Hamachi and select Network > Join an existing network. Enter the host’s network ID and password.
- If the network owner’s settings require approval, the host must approve each join request before the guest can connect.
- Check that everyone appears online in the same Hamachi network.
These menu paths follow LogMeIn’s Hamachi user guide. Hamachi connects the computers to a virtual network; it does not host the Minecraft world.
Open the Java world to LAN
- On the host’s computer, launch Minecraft Java Edition and open or create the single-player world.
- Press Esc to open the game menu, then choose Open to LAN.
- Set the available game options, if desired, and choose Start LAN World.
- Read the chat message Minecraft displays. It includes the port guests may need for Direct Connection.
Minecraft’s multiplayer instructions describe opening a Java world to LAN and connecting to multiplayer games.

Join the world from another computer
Try the LAN listing first
On a guest computer, open Minecraft Java Edition, choose Multiplayer, and look for the host’s LAN world. Select it to join if it appears.
Use Direct Connection if the listing is missing
In Minecraft’s Multiplayer screen, choose Direct Connection and enter the host’s Hamachi IPv4 address followed by a colon and the LAN port shown in the host’s chat, in address:port format. For example, use host-hamachi-ip:port, replacing both parts with the actual values.

Minecraft documents Direct Connection and server addresses, and Hamachi documents creating and joining a network. Neither source specifically guarantees automatic LAN discovery or this exact Hamachi-address-plus-LAN-port combination, so treat Direct Connection as a fallback rather than a vendor-supported integration.
Troubleshoot a failed connection
- Confirm the network: Make sure every player is online in Hamachi and has joined the host’s network, not a different one.
- Check the game: Confirm everyone is using Java Edition with compatible Minecraft versions, and that the host’s world is still open to LAN.
- Recheck the port: Use the port from the current LAN session’s chat message; do not assume an earlier session’s port still applies.
- Review firewall permissions: Check that firewall software permits the relevant Hamachi and Minecraft network traffic. Do not disable the firewall wholesale.
- Check membership and trust: Keep the Hamachi network limited to invited people, since members gain access to the virtual network.
When to use a dedicated server or Realms instead
A Hamachi-assisted LAN session runs from the host’s computer, so the host has to be online with the world open. If you want a separately managed server, Minecraft offers dedicated server software; setting one up is a different process, requires compatible Java, and may involve network or firewall configuration for players outside a local network. Minecraft cautions that exposing a home server publicly involves network configuration, so do not share your home public IP casually.

Minecraft Realms is another option for players who prefer managed hosting. The cited Minecraft pages establish these as alternatives, but do not provide a complete current comparison of their prices, player limits, editions, or availability.
