Patch 7 added an in-game Mod Manager to Baldur’s Gate 3, letting players browse and install supported mods without leaving the game. The separate Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit is for creating mods and is available on PC only. The in-game browser works on PC, Mac, and consoles for mods approved for each platform—but the catalog is curated, so a mod available on PC may not be available on Mac or console.
What Patch 7 added
Patch 7 introduced two related but distinct tools: an in-game Mod Manager for players and the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit for mod creators. The Manager is where players browse, install, and manage supported mods. The Toolkit is a separate PC application distributed through Steam, which Larian describes as free software for creating BG3 mods. Larian’s Patch 7 announcement identified the PC release as version 4.1.1.5849914; that is the release version cited in the announcement, not a claim about the current game version. The official pipeline is intended to make mod discovery and use more accessible and compatible. It is not a guarantee that every supported mod will work indefinitely: game updates, dependencies, and conflicts can still affect them. Larian’s Official Mod Support FAQ
Where you can use mods—and which route to choose

Larian’s later guidance says only mods made and uploaded with the Toolkit and passing internal testing are eligible for the console and Mac in-game browser. The company announced PC Patch 7 first on September 5, 2024, then announced the console and Mac rollout on October 1, 2024. How to install or update a supported mod
- Open Baldur’s Gate 3 and go to the in-game Mod Manager.
- Browse the available mods and select one to install. The in-game browser shows the mods available to your platform.
- To check installed mods, open the Manager’s Installed tab. If an installed mod needs an update, Larian says an Update button appears there; apply the update from that tab.
If a mod is missing from the browser on your platform, it may not have passed that platform’s curation or may not be available there. The official browser should not be treated as a complete list of all PC mods.
Creating mods with the Toolkit
Mod creation uses the separate Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit, not the in-game Manager. Larian distributes it through Steam for PC and specifies Windows, a 64-bit processor and operating system, and 160 GB of available space. Larian’s published recommended specifications are:
- Windows 10 64-bit
- Intel i7 8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
- 32 GB RAM
- Nvidia 2060 Super or AMD RX 5700 XT, with 8 GB or more VRAM
- DirectX 11

What to check before using a modded save or joining multiplayer
Moving a save between platforms
Before relying on a modded save on another platform, check that every mod it uses is available on the destination platform. Larian warns that unsupported mods can prevent a PC save from loading on console. A mod being present on PC does not establish that it is available on Mac or console.

Playing with other people
For multiplayer, players need the same mods. Larian’s guidance specifies matching mod versions, and its modding FAQ also calls for the same load order. Achievements
Larian states that achievements are automatically disabled when mods are enabled. If earning achievements matters for a playthrough, take that into account before enabling mods. Modding: Guidelines & FAQ

A modded game stops working
- Check the Installed tab for mod updates and apply any available update.
- Consider whether a game update, a dependency, or a conflict with another mod could have changed behavior. Official support does not rule out these problems.
- Consult Larian’s Mod Issues troubleshooting guidance.
- If the issue persists after uninstalling mods, and you confirm it still occurs without them, contact Larian Support.
Larian described early adoption in its October 1, 2024 community update: less than a month after Patch 7 released on PC, players had uploaded more than 1,000 mods and recorded more than 15 million downloads. These are figures from that early snapshot, not current totals. Community Update #29
