It does not say that you must enter Photo Mode to solve the clue. Treat Photo Mode as a separate photography tool, and use the clue itself to search for matching landmarks in the game world.
What the photo clue is for
Playground Games describes Treasure Car clues as photos obtained by discovering roads and locations. The cars are abandoned vehicles that you can find, restore, and add to your collection. Its May 15, 2026 starting guide says players can “Continue to discover new roads and locations to obtain photo clues of Treasure Cars: abandoned vehicles that you can find, restore, and add to your collection.” A separate Forza car-culture article also says to use the provided photo to figure out where the cars are.
Neither explanation identifies Photo Mode as a required step, says it reveals coordinates, or describes a button sequence for solving the clue. The practical task is visual matching: interpret the supplied image, then search the world for the place it depicts.
How to match a clue photo to the map
This is a general visual-search approach, not a documented in-game sequence. Use it to narrow the search without assuming that the game will automatically mark the answer.

- Choose a few distinctive details. Look for features that are easier to recognize than generic scenery: a distinctive building, a bend or junction in the road, a shoreline, a hill profile, or a cluster of structures.
- Separate the broad setting from the exact spot. First note whether the image suggests a town, open countryside, a steep or flat area, or a road near water. Then focus on the more specific landmarks and road shapes.
- Compare those details with the map. Scan for regions and routes whose layout fits the clue. A road curve can help narrow the area, while a recognizable building or terrain feature can help confirm it.
- Check likely locations in the world. Revisit promising areas and compare what you see with the clue image. If the view does not fit, revise the search rather than treating one partial match as proof.
Use more than one feature when you can. A single hill or stretch of road may appear in many places; a road shape combined with a distinctive structure is a more useful match.
Where Photo Mode fits—and where it does not
Photo Mode and Treasure Car photo clues are related only in the everyday sense that both involve pictures. Playground Games’ campaign article discusses the Collection Journal and notes that a player can replace a photograph with a better one later. That supports the existence of a separate photography and documentation activity; it does not establish that Photo Mode identifies a Treasure Car clue.

If you want to take or inspect your own screenshots while comparing scenery, use the Photo Mode controls shown in the current in-game help for your platform. The official material cited here does not provide verified Xbox, PC, or cloud button prompts, so there is no reliable universal control sequence to give. Do not expect entering Photo Mode alone to reveal a clue location or complete an activity.
Treasure Cars are not automatically the weekly Treasure Hunt
“Treasure Hunt” can also refer to a timed Festival Playlist challenge. The official material above explains Treasure Car photo clues, not the current instructions or location for a particular weekly challenge. Do not assume that a Treasure Car clue is the same activity as a Playlist Treasure Hunt; check the instructions displayed for the specific challenge you are playing.

Choose how much help you want

For a middle ground, search for a hint describing a landmark or region rather than an exact map pin. That can preserve some exploration while helping you escape a dead end.
