The most reliable way to connect Pinterest to WordPress is to combine four features: a Pinterest business account, a Save button on your pages, correctly generated article or product metadata for Rich Pins, and Pinterest’s official WordPress or WooCommerce connection where applicable. Use an Embed block only when you want to display a public Pin, board, or profile on a page.

Editorial sites usually need the Save button and article metadata. Stores need those plus product metadata, catalog synchronization, product Rich Pins, and conversion tracking. The steps below keep those routes separate so you can install only what your site actually needs.

Choose the Pinterest connection your WordPress site needs

“Add Pinterest to WordPress” can mean several different things. Decide first whether your goal is to let readers save your pages, make saved Pins display richer information, show Pinterest content inside a post, or sell products through Pinterest. Each goal uses a different part of the platform.

Goal WordPress work Pinterest feature
Let visitors save your content Add Pinterest’s official Save button to posts, pages, or image areas. Web Save button
Show accurate details on saved Pins Emit Open Graph or Schema.org fields for each page. Article or Product Rich Pins
Display Pinterest content on your site Paste a public Pin, board, or profile URL into an Embed block. WordPress Embed block
Promote and measure products Connect WooCommerce, enable catalog and product settings, and install tracking. WooCommerce integration, Pinterest Tag, catalog sync

A publisher can stop after the Save button and article metadata. A WooCommerce store should complete the commerce connection as well; adding a Save button alone does not create a synchronized product catalog or conversion reporting.

Start with the right Pinterest account

Use a Pinterest business account when you need analytics, publishing tools, advertising, Rich Pins, or ecommerce features. Pinterest says business accounts provide additional tools, including information about how often people view Pins and visit links shared from the account. A personal account can still be useful for ordinary browsing, but it does not provide the business features required for a measurement-focused WordPress setup.

Create or switch to a business account

  1. Sign in to Pinterest and create a business account, or use the account controls to switch an existing account to a business account.
  2. Complete the business profile details that identify your site or store.
  3. Use the business account for the website, Rich Pin, catalog, and advertising settings described below.

Dashboard wording and eligibility checks can change. If a setting is not visible, check Pinterest’s current business help documentation rather than assuming that a missing control means your WordPress installation is broken.

Prepare WordPress pages before adding Pinterest features

Pinterest reads information from the page a Pin links to. Fix the page itself before adding buttons or submitting products. For every important post or landing page, check the following:

  • A clear featured image that represents the page and is available to visitors.
  • An accurate page title.
  • A useful description rather than a list of keywords.
  • A canonical URL that identifies the preferred version of the page.
  • Author information for article content.

Product pages need equivalent product data: title, description, price, currency, and availability. Keep those values current in WordPress or WooCommerce; Pinterest can only synchronize what the linked page actually exposes.

Prevent conflicting page data

Use one dependable source for each title, description, canonical URL, and image. Multiple SEO or social-sharing systems can emit duplicate or contradictory metadata. Pinterest may then read a value you did not intend to publish. If a page has recently changed, clear any page-cache or content-delivery cache used by your WordPress host before checking the result.

Add a Pinterest Save button

Pinterest’s web buttons let a visitor save content from your site with one click. The button can be configured in two ways: visitors may choose any suitable image on the page, or the button can point to one image that you designate. The second approach is useful when a page has decorative images that should not become the Pin’s main creative.

Use the official web-button implementation

  1. Open Pinterest’s current web-button documentation and select the Save button option.
  2. Choose whether the button should allow image selection or use a specified image.
  3. Set the button’s appearance and any page or image values requested by the generator.
  4. Copy the generated markup and supporting script exactly as provided.
  5. In WordPress, place the markup in a location that accepts the required HTML, such as a Custom HTML block, a template part, or a code area supplied by your theme.
  6. Publish or update the page, then view it while logged out or in a private browser window to confirm that the button is visible to ordinary visitors.

The exact generator controls and code can change, so do not replace current generated code with an old snippet copied from an unrelated tutorial. If your theme strips scripts from an editor block, use the theme’s supported header, footer, or template mechanism instead of repeatedly pasting the code into post content.

Choose button placement deliberately

Place a Save button near the primary image or after the opening section of an article where a reader has enough context to save it. On a site with many templates, add it to the shared template rather than editing hundreds of posts individually. If only selected pages are appropriate for Pinterest, add it to those templates or blocks alone.

A Save button creates an opportunity for a visitor to save a page; it does not guarantee impressions, clicks, or sales. Those outcomes depend on what people choose to save and how Pinterest distributes the resulting Pin.

Make WordPress pages eligible for Rich Pins

Rich Pins automatically synchronize information from the linked site. Pinterest describes Article Pins as able to use Open Graph or Schema.org fields for the title, description, article type, URL, and author. Product Pins can expose a product title, price, currency, availability, and description.

Article metadata checklist

  • Title: the article’s actual headline.
  • Description: a concise description that matches the page.
  • Article type: data identifying the page as article content.
  • URL: the canonical page URL.
  • Author: the person or organization credited with the article.

Your WordPress theme, SEO system, or custom template may output these values as Open Graph tags, Schema.org markup, or both. The important requirement is that the published HTML contains accurate, machine-readable values that remain consistent with the visible page.

Product metadata checklist

  • Product title.
  • Product description.
  • Current price.
  • Currency code.
  • Availability status.

Do not hard-code a promotional price into a template if WooCommerce is supposed to update it. A stale price or availability value can make a saved Pin disagree with the product page. Verify the store’s output after changing inventory, price, or currency settings.

Illustrative Open Graph structure

The following is an example of the kind of information a page can expose. Replace the values with the page’s real data and use your existing WordPress metadata system where possible:

<meta property="og:title" content="Example article title">
<meta property="og:description" content="Accurate description of the article.">
<meta property="og:type" content="article">
<meta property="og:url" content="https://example.com/article/">
<meta property="article:author" content="Author name">

This example is a format illustration, not a substitute for Pinterest’s current eligibility guidance. If your site already generates equivalent Schema.org data, avoid adding a second system that outputs different values.

Allow time for Rich Pin synchronization

After the metadata is live, publish or refresh a Pin that links to the page. Pinterest reads the marked-up page and can populate Rich Pin information from it. Pinterest says synchronization may take up to 24 hours, so a correct page can still display old or incomplete information immediately after an update.

  1. Open the public WordPress URL and confirm the visible title, description, author or product values.
  2. Inspect the page source or use your site’s metadata diagnostic tools to verify that the expected Open Graph or Schema.org fields are present.
  3. Publish a new Pin or refresh an existing Pin that links to the page.
  4. Allow up to 24 hours for Pinterest to process the information.
  5. Recheck the Pin and the destination page. If the values still disagree, look for cache, duplicate metadata, redirects, or an incorrect canonical URL.

Existing Pins that link to pages with correct metadata can become Rich Pins; you do not necessarily need to recreate every Pin. The synchronization process is not instantaneous, and Pinterest’s current documentation should be the authority for any account-specific eligibility decision.

Embed Pinterest content in a WordPress page

WordPress’s Embed block accepts the URL of a public Pinterest Pin, board, or profile. WordPress documentation states that you do not need a Pinterest account to use this embedding feature, but only public Pins, boards, and profiles can be embedded. Private content is outside that documented workflow.

Embed a public Pin, board, or profile

  1. Open the public Pinterest Pin, board, or profile you want to display.
  2. Copy its URL from the browser address bar or Pinterest share controls.
  3. Edit the WordPress post or page and add an Embed block.
  4. Paste the Pinterest URL into the block and submit it.
  5. Preview the page on desktop and mobile, then publish or update it.

If WordPress leaves the URL as plain text, check that the address is public and that you pasted the canonical Pinterest URL rather than a private or session-specific link. A private board cannot be made public by changing the WordPress block.

Use embeds sparingly

An embedded board can be useful for a project gallery or a public collection, while an article may need only one Pin. Keep the page’s own explanation in WordPress so that the content remains understandable even when an external embed is unavailable or changes appearance.

Connect Pinterest to WooCommerce

A store requires more than social sharing. Pinterest’s WooCommerce workflow covers account linking, tracking-tag selection, product-catalog synchronization, Save-to-Pinterest, product and post Rich Pins, and conversion tracking with the Pinterest Tag.

WooCommerce setup sequence

  1. Open the current Pinterest integration workflow in your WooCommerce administration area or Pinterest business settings.
  2. Link the Pinterest business account to the store.
  3. Select the tracking tag that should receive activity from this store.
  4. Enable product-catalog synchronization and review the products that will be sent.
  5. Enable Save-to-Pinterest if you want visitors to save product images or pages directly from the store.
  6. Enable product Rich Pins and post Rich Pins as appropriate for the store’s content.
  7. Enable conversion tracking with the Pinterest Tag.
  8. Review the resulting catalog and test a product link before promoting it.

Pinterest states that the first WooCommerce catalog sync can take up to 24 hours. During that period, an empty or incomplete catalog does not automatically mean the connection failed. Check the integration status, product eligibility messages, and the source product data after the stated processing window.

Separate catalog problems from page problems

A product can have correct metadata on its WordPress page while still being absent from the Pinterest catalog if synchronization has not completed or the integration reports a product issue. Conversely, a catalog item can exist while its destination page shows a stale price or availability value. Check both the catalog status and the live WooCommerce page.

Measure discovery and conversions

Save buttons and Rich Pins improve the information a visitor can carry into Pinterest. They are discovery features, not measurement systems by themselves. A Pinterest business account supplies analytics for account activity, while the WooCommerce workflow uses the Pinterest Tag to track conversions.

For editorial sites

  • Use the business account’s analytics to review views and visits to shared links.
  • Compare activity on pages with a Save button against pages without one only after allowing enough time for people to save and share content.
  • Keep the destination URL stable so clicks continue to reach the intended article.

For stores

  • Confirm that the selected Pinterest Tag is attached to the intended store.
  • Test product-page visits and checkout events using the integration’s current diagnostics.
  • Match conversion reports with WooCommerce orders rather than treating every tracked event as a completed sale.

Neither Pinterest’s business tools nor a Save button is a guarantee of traffic, rankings, or revenue. Use analytics to identify what happened, not to promise a particular result.

Manual code, a WordPress integration, or a WooCommerce connection?

Approach Best fit Advantages Watch-outs
Official Pinterest web-button code Publishers that want direct control over Save-button placement. Uses Pinterest’s own generated implementation and can be placed in a chosen template or block. Requires access to a WordPress location that permits the required markup and script.
WordPress or theme integration Sites that prefer dashboard settings for social metadata or buttons. Less repeated template editing. Verify that the integration is maintained and that it emits the fields Pinterest needs.
WooCommerce integration Stores that need catalog sync, product Rich Pins, and conversion tracking. Connects products and measurement in one commerce workflow. Initial catalog synchronization can take up to 24 hours; product data still must be accurate.

Do not install multiple systems that perform the same job without checking their output. Two Save buttons, duplicate tags, or competing metadata generators can create confusing results and make troubleshooting harder.

Troubleshoot the most common failures

The Save button does not appear

  • Confirm that the generated markup was pasted into a WordPress area that allows it.
  • Check whether the theme, security layer, or editor removed the supporting script.
  • View the published page rather than only the editor preview.
  • Clear page and browser caches, then test in a private window.

Pinterest selects the wrong image

  • Switch from visitor-selected images to a specified image in the official button configuration.
  • Confirm that the designated image is publicly reachable and associated with the page.
  • Remove or relabel decorative images if they are being mistaken for the main visual.

A Rich Pin shows old or missing information

  • Check the live page’s title, description, canonical URL, author, or product values.
  • Inspect for duplicate Open Graph or Schema.org fields with conflicting values.
  • Clear WordPress and delivery caches.
  • Allow up to 24 hours for Pinterest synchronization before judging a recent change.

A WordPress embed remains plain text

  • Verify that the Pin, board, or profile is public.
  • Paste the direct Pinterest URL into a fresh Embed block.
  • Remove tracking or session parameters from the copied address if they prevent WordPress from recognizing it.
  • Preview the published page in a browser where the content is not restricted by a login.

WooCommerce products are missing

  • Confirm that the Pinterest and WooCommerce accounts are linked to the intended business account.
  • Check that catalog synchronization is enabled.
  • Review each product’s title, description, price, currency, and availability.
  • Wait through the first synchronization window, which Pinterest says can take up to 24 hours.
  • Check the integration’s error or eligibility messages for products that still do not appear.

Maintenance checklist for a Pinterest-connected WordPress site

  • When an article title, description, author, image, or canonical URL changes, verify the page metadata again.
  • When a product price, currency, or stock status changes, confirm the WooCommerce page and catalog data agree.
  • Review Save buttons after a theme redesign or editor change.
  • Check that embedded boards and profiles remain public.
  • Review business analytics periodically so tracking problems are noticed before a campaign depends on them.
  • Keep Pinterest, WordPress, WooCommerce, themes, and integration components current, while checking compatibility before major updates.

A practical decision path

  1. If you publish articles, create or switch to a business account, add the official Save button, and ensure article metadata contains title, description, type, URL, and author.
  2. If you want Pinterest content inside an article, add a public Pin, board, or profile URL to a WordPress Embed block.
  3. If you sell through WooCommerce, complete account linking, tracking-tag selection, catalog sync, Save-to-Pinterest, Rich Pin options, and Pinterest Tag conversion tracking.
  4. After publishing, test the live page, allow the documented synchronization window, and diagnose metadata, cache, visibility, and account-linking issues in that order.
