To get a hint on PS5 while minimizing story spoilers, open the in-game Control Center with the PS button, select the Game Help card, and choose the specific objective you need help with. Start with the least revealing hint available and stop as soon as you are unstuck. PlayStation says Game Help containing story spoilers is marked as a hidden activity; reveal it only if you are comfortable seeing that content. Avoid browsing unrelated activity cards if you want to reduce the chance of encountering a title or detail that gives something away.
What Game Help does—and what it does not guarantee
Game Help is a built-in PS5 feature that can show guidance for objectives in supported games. Depending on the game and objective, that guidance may be text, pictures, video, or a mix. The Game Help card lists objectives for which help is available; it does not mean every objective in every game has a hint.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
The game creator supplies the help content, so its format and depth vary by title. A game might offer a brief clue, several increasingly specific hints, a walkthrough video, or no help for the task you are trying to solve. PlayStation describes a progression from vague nudges to partial steps and, potentially, a full walkthrough, but that sequence is not guaranteed for every objective.
Game Help is designed to make guidance available without sending you to a general web search, where you might encounter a headline, thumbnail, comment, or result that reveals a plot point. It is not a guarantee that all PS5 menus, cards, videos, or game content are spoiler-free. The protection specifically documented by PlayStation is that Game Help content containing storyline spoilers appears as a hidden activity.

Think of Game Help as a way to narrow your question, not as a universal hint database. If you are stuck on a particular objective, the useful starting point is that objective’s entry in the Game Help card. If no entry appears, or its available content is more revealing than you want, you can back out without opening it. What appears depends on the game creator’s supplied content and the objective you are pursuing.
Open Game Help with the fewest spoiler risks
- Start the game and open Control Center. Press the PS button while playing. The Control Center appears over the game.
- Select the Game Help card. Card wording and presentation can vary with localization, system software, and the game. If you do not see Game Help, that title or the current context may not offer it.
- Choose the exact objective you are stuck on. Game Help lists objectives with available guidance. Choose the relevant one rather than opening unrelated activity cards.
- Read or view the smallest hint first. If the game offers a sequence of hints, begin with the vaguest one. Stop there if it is enough. A later hint or video may provide a more complete solution.
- Check for a hidden-activity warning before revealing content. PlayStation says story-spoiling help is presented as a hidden activity. Follow the screen prompt to reveal it only when you accept the possibility of seeing a story detail.
- Pin the guidance to the side if that option is available. Select Multitasking, then Pin to Side. This can keep guidance visible beside gameplay rather than requiring you to switch back and forth.
- Return to the game when ready. Press the PS button to return. To stop pinning or change the guidance panel’s position, open the multitasking menu again and use its available controls.
These are PlayStation’s published access steps, not a guarantee that every game uses identical wording or displays every option. Menu labels can vary by language and system version, and individual titles decide what guidance they provide.
For the most cautious approach, make each selection purposeful. Open the Game Help card rather than scanning across Control Center cards, select only the objective you recognize, and pause before opening a hidden item or video. The first visible hint may be enough to get you moving again. There is no need to read every hint in sequence if you have already solved the immediate problem.

When a title offers multiple kinds of help, use the option that gives you the amount of assistance you actually need. The safest practical approach for a player avoiding spoilers is to escalate gradually, not to open every item in the card.
| Choice | What it may provide | When to use it | Spoiler-conscious approach |
|---|---|---|---|
| Text hint | A clue or instruction. Some games may provide multiple hints at increasing levels of detail. | When you need a nudge about what to try next. | Read one hint, try it, and return for another only if you remain stuck. |
| Picture | A visual clue related to the objective. | When a visual reference may clarify a location, object, or action. | Consider that the image itself may show more of a scene than a short text clue. |
| Video | A clip showing how to complete an objective; the amount of detail depends on the game’s content. | When smaller hints have not helped and you are willing to see a more complete solution. | Do not open it automatically. A walkthrough may show actions or scenes beyond the precise point where you are stuck. |
PlayStation’s description of progressively stronger hints explains the design goal, not a promise of a universal hint ladder. If only a video is offered, or the first available item is already detailed, there may be no gentler option for that objective. You can simply close the card and continue playing rather than reveal more than you want.
Use the format as well as the level of detail to judge whether to continue. A short text nudge may leave you room to solve the puzzle yourself; an image can make a location or object clearer, but can also show scene details; a video may demonstrate the full solution. None of those formats is automatically spoiler-free. The creator’s content and the specific objective determine what is shown, so read or view only what you need.
A useful rule is to stop at the first successful hint. Try it in the game before opening the next clue. If it does not work, return to the same objective and decide whether the next level of detail is worth the added exposure. That preserves the choice PlayStation describes: a player can decide how much assistance to receive rather than treating the walkthrough as an all-or-nothing answer.

What activity cards show, and why they can be riskier to browse
Activity cards are contextual: their contents depend on the game and what you are doing. Cards can show progress, features, trophies or challenges, or particular activities. Some let you jump directly into an activity, rather than navigating to it through the game’s menus. PlayStation’s examples include launching an activity or side quest from a card.
That convenience is different from asking for a targeted hint. A card title, progress description, challenge, or named activity can reveal information simply by appearing on screen. PlayStation documents hidden handling for spoiler-bearing Game Help content, but that should not be read as a promise that every activity card or every part of Control Center hides story information.
- If you are stuck on one task: open Game Help and choose that objective, instead of scanning unrelated cards.
- If you want to browse activities: remember that the card titles and descriptions themselves may reveal what the game has made available.
- If you want to jump straight into an activity: use the relevant card when you are comfortable with its title and the destination it opens.
PlayStation’s support page about customizing the PS5 Control Center explains that cards are contextual; its PS5 owners’ guide also describes cards that can launch activities. Card layout and availability should not be assumed to be identical in every game or system-language setting.
In other words, activity cards are not all the same kind of prompt. Some are useful status or progress views, some point to features or challenges, and some are shortcuts into activities. Their shared appearance in Control Center does not mean they provide the same protection as a hidden Game Help item. If avoiding plot details is your priority, use the card that answers your immediate question and leave other titles and descriptions unopened.

Keep help alongside gameplay with Pin to Side
When the game and help item offer it, Multitasking > Pin to Side keeps the guidance panel beside the game. This is useful when you need to check a clue while moving through the same area or trying an action, and it avoids repeatedly reopening the card. The option is conditional: if it is not offered for the content you opened, you cannot assume it is available.
Use the multitasking menu to stop pinning or reposition the panel. Pinning changes how you view the guidance; it does not change the hint’s detail or make spoiler-bearing material safe to reveal. Decide whether you want a clue visible during play, then close or reposition it when it is no longer useful.
Pinning is therefore a convenience, not a spoiler filter. Choose the hint you are comfortable with before pinning it. If it remains on screen after it has helped, use the multitasking controls to stop pinning or move it. If you would rather keep the game view clear, simply return to the game and reopen Game Help when needed.

Community Game Help is optional and has separate privacy controls
Community Game Help is a separate feature from simply viewing Game Help. PlayStation describes it as a way for eligible players to contribute gameplay videos that can appear as help for other players. You do not need to opt in to view ordinary Game Help.
Turn Community Game Help on or review its setting
- On the PS5, open Settings.
- Go to Captures & Broadcasts.
- Select Auto Captures.
- Open Community Game Help and review the available participation setting.
PlayStation’s feature information says participation is limited to adult accounts and subject to a monthly capture limit. The material cited by PlayStation does not establish one universal capture-limit number here, so check the on-console setting for the limit that applies to your account.
What PlayStation says is excluded
For this program, PlayStation says webcam footage, microphone activity, and Party chat are not captured or uploaded. You can also view videos you have published through the feature.
Opting out has a permanent consequence
PlayStation’s support instructions say that opting out stops future capture and upload, and removes videos you have already published permanently, including from the hints where they appeared. If you are considering opting out, account for that removal: it is not described as a temporary pause that preserves existing published contributions.
Keep this setting separate from the steps for getting help. A player who only wants to view a hint does not need to contribute a video, and checking the Community Game Help setting is relevant if you are deciding whether your own gameplay should be used for the feature. Before opting out, consider the documented permanent removal of previously published videos; after opting out, future captures and uploads stop.

Why built-in, targeted help can be preferable to a broad search
In a June 11, 2021 PlayStation.Blog post, Adil Sherwani, Director of Platform Planning & Management at SIE, said the company’s development research found that “Almost half get stuck in a game on a weekly basis, and more than half said they encounter spoilers when they seek out help for a game, or spend too much time searching for the tip they are looking for.” The blog does not identify the research organization, sample, or a separate report, so treat those figures as PlayStation’s summary of its own development research, not as an independently verified industry-wide statistic.
Sherwani described the feature’s aim this way: “Because all players have different preferences, the goal is to allow players to have control over how much help they are receiving.” The practical implication is to use the control the feature offers: target the objective, begin with the smallest clue, and choose whether to reveal anything marked hidden. It cannot remove all spoiler risk from every game surface, and the help available depends on what that game’s creator supplied.

That distinction matters when deciding between an in-console hint and searching elsewhere. Game Help can take you to guidance for a selected objective without requiring a broad search through results, but the feature is still game- and objective-dependent. A search may produce the answer you need, yet its results, thumbnails, headlines, and comments can reveal more than the solution. If Game Help has a suitable low-detail hint, trying that first is a way to keep the question focused; if not, the console does not promise an alternative for every problem.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When Game Help is missing or not enough
- No Game Help card appears: support varies by game and objective. The available PlayStation information does not provide a complete current title-by-title list or a reliable overall count, so absence of the card does not indicate a console fault by itself.
- The objective is not listed: the game may not provide help for that specific objective. Check other listed objectives only if their names are safe for you to see.
- The only option looks too revealing: do not open it. You can leave the card and continue without using that help; the feature does not require you to reveal a hidden activity.
- You want a persistent clue but cannot pin it: Pin to Side is offered only where supported. Use the hint, return to gameplay, and reopen the card when necessary.
- You do not want to contribute captures: viewing Game Help does not require Community Game Help participation. Review its separate setting under Settings > Captures & Broadcasts > Auto Captures > Community Game Help.
There is no universal title list or support percentage to use as a shortcut for finding out whether your game has Game Help. Support can differ not only between titles but also between objectives within a title. Check the card while playing and judge the options actually displayed. If the task is not listed, that is a limit of the supplied guidance rather than proof that every other task should have a hint.
If an available hint is not enough, you can decide whether to escalate to a more detailed item, use the side-pinning option if offered, or stop and continue without further help. There is no requirement to open a video or reveal a hidden activity. The most spoiler-conscious approach is to choose deliberately at each step rather than treating the card as an instruction to consume every item.
What is and is not established about spoiler protection
PlayStation’s published instructions establish that Game Help with storyline spoilers is presented as a hidden activity, and that players can choose whether to reveal it. They do not establish that the whole Control Center is spoiler-proof, that every game uses the same warning, or that every card and video in every title is screened in the same way. Nor is there a complete current public list of supported titles in the cited material.
For the most cautious workflow, stay within Game Help, select only the objective you need, and avoid opening a hidden item unless you are ready for its contents. That keeps the choice focused without treating any on-screen game information as guaranteed spoiler-free.
Use the warning as a decision point, not as a reason to assume everything else is safe. The documented safeguard applies to story-spoiling Game Help presented as a hidden activity. Other card titles, progress details, activity descriptions, and visual material may still disclose information. PlayStation’s published instructions do not establish a universal filter covering every Control Center element or every title.

Are all PS5 Game Help hints spoiler-free?
No. PlayStation says Game Help containing storyline spoilers is presented as a hidden activity, which you can choose to reveal. That does not establish that the entire Control Center, every activity card, or every item in every game is spoiler-free.
Do all PS5 games have Game Help?
No. Availability depends on the game and objective, and the game creator supplies the content. There is no complete current title-by-title list or reliable overall support count in the cited PlayStation information.
What kinds of help can a Game Help card contain?
Depending on the title and objective, help may be text, pictures, videos, or a combination. Some games may offer increasingly detailed hints, but a progressive sequence is not guaranteed.

PlayStation’s support instructions say opting out stops future capture and upload and permanently removes videos you have already published, including from the hints where they appeared. Review that consequence before changing the setting.
Does Community Game Help capture my microphone or Party chat?
PlayStation says webcam footage, microphone activity, and Party chat are not captured or uploaded for this program.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Open Game Help from Control Center, choose only the objective you need, and take the smallest useful hint first. Reveal a hidden activity only when you accept the spoiler risk. Activity cards and other Control Center content are not guaranteed to be spoiler-free, and Game Help is available only where a game’s creator has supplied it.
