Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSteam Deck’s SteamOS has built-in quick suspend and resume, but suspending a game is not the same as saving it. Use suspend/resume to step away from a session; use the game’s own save system to preserve progress, and check Steam Cloud synchronization before moving between devices.
What Quick Resume does—and what it does not do
Valve describes SteamOS quick suspend/resume as a way to get quickly in and out of games. It keeps the current session convenient to return to, but it is not a universal save feature and does not guarantee that progress is written to a durable save file. Valve’s SteamOS FAQ
The exact suspend and resume controls can depend on the Deck’s current interface and software. Check the on-device controls rather than relying on a button sequence that may no longer match your system.
Save your progress before stepping away
When the game offers a manual save, use it before suspending if you want a reliable checkpoint. Otherwise, use the game’s own autosave or checkpoint system and give it time to finish. Save behavior belongs to each game; SteamOS suspension does not replace it.

- Look for an in-game save indicator or confirmation before leaving an important moment.
- For games that save only at checkpoints, reach one before relying on a later return to the session.
- Check the game’s Steam Store page for its Steam Cloud indicator if you expect progress to follow you to another device.
Understand Steam Cloud before switching devices
Steam Cloud can synchronize game files, but availability and coverage depend on the title. Developers choose how Cloud works for their games, including which user files are uploaded; Cloud support therefore does not guarantee that every save, setting, or kind of progress is included. Before switching from your Deck to another computer—or back again—let the game finish syncing while online. Offline play delays synchronization until the device reconnects, so recent progress may not yet be available on the other device. Steam Support: Steam Cloud sync

Handle sync errors and conflicts carefully
If Steam reports a sync failure
Resolve the sync problem before launching the game when possible. Steam Support warns that proceeding after a failed-sync warning can create a conflict and may result in lost progress. If you are offline, wait until you can reconnect and allow synchronization to complete before expecting the latest save to appear elsewhere. Steam Support: Steam Cloud sync
If Steam shows a cloud conflict
A conflict means the local and cloud versions differ. Compare the dates shown for each version with where and when you last played, then choose the copy that contains the progress you want to keep. Do not select one automatically: choosing the older version can replace newer progress. Steam Support: Steam Cloud sync

If suspend and resume is unstable
If returning to a suspended session causes problems, use Valve’s general Steam Deck software troubleshooting steps: install available system updates, restart the Deck, and exit or disable third-party applications before testing again. These are general troubleshooting measures, not a Quick Resume-specific fix. Valve’s software guide applies to both LCD and OLED models. Steam Support: Steam Deck software troubleshooting
