You can schedule an existing video in Restream’s Pre-recorded livestream flow and let it start on YouTube automatically, without keeping a PC online. Connect your YouTube channel, select or upload a video, set the event details, and schedule it. This is different from starting a live session in Restream Studio, which requires someone to begin the broadcast.
Schedule a prerecorded video to stream on YouTube
- Connect YouTube: In Restream, open Channels, add YouTube, and authorize the channel you want to use. Restream’s YouTube connection instructions describe this setup.
- Start the prerecorded event: From the Restream home screen, choose New Stream → Pre-recorded livestream → Video.
- Choose your video: Select a file in Uploads or Recordings, or choose Upload Video to add one from a computer or mobile phone. Restream also documents importing from Descript, Google Drive, or Dropbox, and using a playlist.
- Set up the event: Enter its title, description, date, and time; add a thumbnail if you want. Restream’s Help Center says a single video can be looped up to 10 times (Restream Help Center, 2026). This is a finite repeat limit, not indefinite looping.
- Choose YouTube and create it: Continue, enable YouTube as a destination, and create the event. Check the event details and scheduled time before leaving the setup.
- Let it start automatically: Restream says a scheduled prerecorded event begins at its scheduled time even if you are offline. You do not need to open Studio and press Go Live. You can open the event while it airs to monitor the stream and chat.

Prerecorded event or live Studio session?
Use Pre-recorded livestream when the video already exists and you want it to start at a scheduled time without an operator at the PC. A live Studio session is a different workflow: it is a live production that someone enters and starts. Restream’s prerecorded-event guidance distinguishes automatic scheduled playback from manually started Studio events.
One video, playlist, plan, or encoder?
- One video or playlist: Restream documents both for Upload & Stream. A single video can be repeated up to 10 times; do not assume the feature creates an unlimited 24/7 loop.
- Free or paid plan: Restream says scheduling is available on all plans, including its free plan. Free-plan event thumbnails carry Restream branding. Storage and upload limits vary with account tier or add-on, so check the limits shown in your account before preparing a large file; no universal maximum file size or duration is established here.
- Cloud event or encoder: You do not need an encoder for this uploaded-video workflow. YouTube’s encoder guidance concerns a separate production route that can support external audio/video hardware and advanced multi-camera setups.
Test the YouTube connection and check the event
Restream’s stream-testing guide describes using an unlisted YouTube stream to check how a stream connects to and appears on YouTube. Treat that as a general connection test: the guide does not establish that such a test verifies a scheduled prerecorded event’s automatic start from beginning to end.

- Confirm the intended YouTube channel is connected and enabled as the event destination.
- Verify the scheduled date and time, title, description, and selected video or playlist in Restream.
- Review the account’s current upload and storage limits if the file will not upload or is close to its quota.
- For the published YouTube event, check the visibility and any other event settings you selected in YouTube.
Troubleshooting common problems
- YouTube is missing from the destination list: Return to Channels, add or reconnect YouTube, and complete the authorization. Then reopen the event and enable YouTube.
- The video will not upload: Check the upload requirements and available storage in your Restream account. Limits vary by tier or add-on; do not rely on a generic file-size or duration limit.
- The event did not start when expected: Check the scheduled date and time and confirm that YouTube was enabled before the event was created. Open the event in Restream to inspect its status and monitor it; the documented automatic start applies to the prerecorded-event flow, not a manually started Studio session.
- The video stops after repeating: The documented loop limit is up to 10 repetitions. A longer or continuous broadcast requires a different setup.
- The thumbnail shows Restream branding: Restream says free-plan event thumbnails include its branding. Check the current plan details if that branding is unsuitable.
- You want to verify playback: Use Restream’s unlisted-stream test as a general connection check, but do not treat it as proof that a scheduled prerecorded event will automatically start and run through its full duration.
Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
Scheduling a file as a livestream does not change who owns or may use its music, video, or other material. Use content you created or have permission to broadcast, and review YouTube’s rules for the channel and content before scheduling. A test stream or successful upload is not a determination that the video is copyright-safe or eligible for monetization.
