To search your Pokémon collection, open the Main Menu from Map View, tap Pokémon, then tap the magnifying glass above your Pokémon list. Enter a name, Pokédex number, type, or search term; combine filters to narrow the results. Niantic’s Pokémon inventory search guide documents the patterns below.

Search your Pokémon collection

  1. From Map View, tap the Main Menu.
  2. Tap Pokémon to open your collection.
  3. Tap the magnifying-glass icon above the list.
  4. Type a search term or choose a suggested or recent search, if available.

To enable suggestions, open Settings → General and turn on Show Suggested Search Terms. Suggestions appear after you type at least two letters. Search can match a Pokémon’s name or nickname, its Pokédex number, or its type. For example, try Pikachu, 25, or grass.

Filter by CP, HP, and moves

CP and HP

Search CP or HP followed by a value or range. Niantic’s examples include HP150 and cp200-300. A hyphen at the start or end makes a one-sided threshold: cp-300 finds Pokémon at 300 CP or lower, while cp300- finds those at 300 CP or higher. The HP search does not indicate whether a Pokémon is injured or fainted.

Moves

Put @ before a move name or move type. For example, @scratch searches for Pokémon with Scratch, and @grass searches by move type. Add a move-slot number to target a particular attack slot: @1, @2, or @3 followed by a type. Niantic’s example, @3ghost, targets Ghost-type moves in the third slot. The documented special searches include @special for moves that cannot be learned with a TM and @weather for Pokémon with an attack boosted by current weather.

Find Pokémon by status, appraisal, tags, or size

Search terms can narrow your collection by traits and status. Examples listed in Niantic’s guide include shiny, shadow, purified, lucky, legendary, mythical, traded, costume, hatched, eggsonly, and defender. For appraisal ratings, use a star range such as 0-4*.

To search by a tag, add # before its name, such as #battle. Niantic also documents the size terms xl, xs, xxl, and xxs.

Search for evolution eligibility, acquisition year, or region

Use evolve to find Pokémon that can evolve, and combine it with a type to narrow the list—for example, grass&evolve. The term megaevolve finds Pokémon currently eligible for Mega Evolution or Primal Reversion. To search by acquisition year, try a term such as year2016.

Niantic’s documented region terms include Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Galar, Hisui, Paldea, Alola, and Kalos. Availability and search behavior can vary with game updates or localization, so treat these as documented examples rather than a guaranteed exhaustive list.

Combine searches and exclude matches

Niantic documents & and | for combining searches, and ! to exclude matches. Commas, colons, and semicolons can also separate multiple criteria. Examples include grass&evolve, !defender, and electric,@weather.

The official guide does not fully explain how operators are prioritized in complex queries. Check the results in the app before selecting, transferring, or otherwise acting on a filtered group. When you are learning a query, start with one filter and add another only after confirming the first result set.

Use search in the Pokédex

The Pokédex has its own search field and preset filters. Niantic says inventory search queries can also be used there, and you can combine preset filters with manually entered keywords. See the Pokédex guide for that feature.

Fix a search that returns no results

  • Check punctuation in names. Niantic notes that mr. returns Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime, while mr mime does not return a Pokémon. Match the punctuation in the displayed name.
  • Confirm the filter syntax. Use @ for moves and # for tags; CP and HP searches need the stat label.
  • Test a complex query in pieces. Remove operators or extra criteria, confirm the matches, and then add terms back. This helps identify a filter or combination that is narrowing the results unexpectedly.
