Shadow of the Erdtree adds a regional blessing system alongside ordinary rune-based character leveling. At a Site of Grace in the Realm of Shadow, choose Shadow Realm Blessing: spend Scadutree Fragments to strengthen your character, or Revered Spirit Ashes to strengthen summoned spirits and Torrent. Both blessings can be active at the same time, and neither applies outside the Realm of Shadow.
How to activate a Shadow Realm Blessing
- Collect a Scadutree Fragment or a Revered Spirit Ash in the Realm of Shadow.
- Rest at a Site of Grace in the Realm of Shadow.
- Select Shadow Realm Blessing from the grace menu.
- Use the matching item to activate or increase that blessing.
Bandai Namco says the menu becomes available after you obtain the items; the official guide describes activating or increasing blessings from the Site of Grace menu. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe’s guide and the Realm of Shadow entry guide explain the process.

Which item raises which blessing?

The two tracks are separate but can be active together. Spending one kind of item does not prevent you from using the other. The official strengthening guide describes the player-focused effect, while the Realm of Shadow guide covers the blessing system. The version 1.12.2 calibration notes later revised Scadutree Blessing scaling, but provide no exact per-level percentages.
How this system works with ordinary character levels
Shadow Realm Blessings supplement the usual progression system; they do not replace it. You can continue leveling your character with runes as before. The blessings are a separate layer of progression tied to collectible items and apply only in the Realm of Shadow. When you return to the Lands Between, those regional effects stop applying. PlayStation’s 20 June 2024 tips also describes the system as an additional way to prepare for the expansion’s challenges.

Where to find Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes
These items are found throughout the Realm of Shadow, and either type may also be dropped by enemies. Bandai Namco’s examples include Scadutree Fragments at the Church of Consolation near Gravesite Plain and a Revered Spirit Ash on a hornsent corpse at the edge of the Scorched Ruins. The publisher also points to Churches of Marika for Scadutree Fragments, and hornsent corpses and ritual objects in settlements and villages for Revered Spirit Ashes. Higher blessing levels require more items. Bandai Namco says costs begin at one item for initial levels and rise to three at the highest levels; that summary does not establish a full cost table, so it is not enough to calculate the exact items needed for each level.
Scadutree Blessing’s scaling was adjusted in version 1.12.2, published 26 June 2024: the first half of maximum upgrades received more increase, the second half became more gradual, and the final level was slightly increased. The patch notes do not give precise percentages, so exact multiplier tables cannot be derived from them. Read the version 1.12.2 calibration notes.
Why the menu may not be available
- You have not collected a blessing item: obtain a Scadutree Fragment or Revered Spirit Ash first; the official guidance says the menu option is available after obtaining these items.
- You are not at a Site of Grace in the Realm of Shadow: the blessing menu and its effects are tied to the expansion’s region.
- You expect a permanent character-level increase: the blessings are regional boosts, not global rune-based levels. Scadutree Blessing’s character values are reflected in the Status section, but spirit improvements are not shown as player-facing statistics.
