The documented Ted Lasso integration is in FIFA 23. In that game, you can select Ted Lasso as your Manager Career manager, or move AFC Richmond into the Premier League or another playable Career Mode league. EA also announced AFC Richmond for Kick-Off, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons, with related unlockable items for Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs where applicable. The official instructions do not confirm the same feature in later EA SPORTS FC releases.
Use the steps below if you own the correct FIFA 23 edition and platform. If you are shopping for a newer title, verify the listing and in-game features instead of assuming that the FIFA 23 license carried forward.

What Ted Lasso content is actually available?
EA’s official crossover announcement is specifically for FIFA 23. It is not a general instruction for every game now carrying the EA SPORTS FC name. The documented options are:
- Ted Lasso as a manager: Select him in FIFA 23 Manager Career.
- AFC Richmond as a Career club: Manage the fictional club and swap it into the Premier League or another playable Career Mode league.
- AFC Richmond in team-based match modes: EA announced the club for Kick-Off, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons.
- Related Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs content: EA described unlockable items where applicable, rather than the full Career Mode club-swap process.
EA’s guide summarizes the two Career options this way: “One of the game’s great motivators, you’ll be able to select Ted Lasso as your playable manager in Career Mode, or you can manage AFC Richmond by swapping them into the Premier League or any other playable Career Mode league.” That wording is from the FIFA 23 guide, so apply it to FIFA 23 rather than treating it as a promise about a later release.

Check the game, platform and edition before starting
The announcement covered FIFA 23 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The exact edition you own still matters: a listing, regional release or platform version may differ, and the announcement does not establish that every edition has identical availability.

EA’s current Career Mode explanation says Manager Career is the club-management format for handling a squad, tactics, transfers, finances and player development. Player Career follows an individual footballer instead. That distinction explains why Ted Lasso belongs in Manager Career rather than a player-focused save. Step-by-step: select Ted Lasso as your manager
- Launch FIFA 23 on a supported platform and reach the main menu.
- Open Career Mode. Do not start Player Career if you want Ted in the manager role.
- Choose Manager Career when the Career type is presented.
- Create a new manager save and open the manager-selection options.
- Select Ted Lasso as the playable manager. EA explicitly identifies him as selectable in Career Mode.
- Choose the club and save settings for the career you want to run. The documented Ted option concerns the manager selection; it does not say that choosing Ted automatically converts a club into AFC Richmond.
- Begin the save. Manager Career then gives you the normal club-management responsibilities described by EA: squad decisions, tactics, transfers, finances and player development.
This route is best if the manager persona is the main attraction and you want to apply Ted to an existing club structure. It is separate from the AFC Richmond league-swap route: selecting Ted does not, by itself, establish that AFC Richmond is the club in your save.

Step-by-step: put AFC Richmond into a Career Mode league
- Start FIFA 23 and open Career Mode.
- Select Manager Career. The club-swap feature belongs to the management-oriented Career format.
- Choose AFC Richmond as the club you want to manage.
- Use the league-swap option during setup to replace a club in the Premier League or another playable Career Mode league with AFC Richmond.
- Select the destination league. EA’s wording permits the Premier League or “any other playable Career Mode league”; the leagues available to you are therefore governed by what your edition presents as playable.
- Confirm the replacement and create the save. The swap determines where AFC Richmond enters the Career structure; it is not a separate exhibition-match setting.
- Run the club through Manager Career. Manage its squad, tactics, transfers, finances and player development as you would any other club in that Career format.
The league swap is the documented way to make AFC Richmond the club in a full Career save. The official guide does not establish that every platform edition or every subsequent game has the same option, so do not infer its presence from a later EA SPORTS FC title.
Deciding between the Premier League and another playable league
Choose the Premier League if you want AFC Richmond placed in the competition most closely associated with the show’s setting. Choose another league if you prefer a different Career structure or want to replace a club in a league your edition supports. EA does not specify a universal list of destination leagues in the Ted Lasso instructions; use the leagues actually shown by your FIFA 23 setup screen.
Can you combine Ted and AFC Richmond?
The official wording documents two selectable Career elements: Ted Lasso as manager and AFC Richmond as a club that can be moved into a league. It does not provide a separate rule explaining every possible combination. If your setup screen permits both choices in the same save, select Ted as manager and AFC Richmond as the club; if it presents them independently, follow the choices available in your edition. Do not treat an unavailable combination as a software fault without first checking that you are in FIFA 23 Manager Career.

How to use AFC Richmond outside Career Mode
Kick-Off
EA announced AFC Richmond for Kick-Off. Open the Kick-Off mode, enter team selection and choose AFC Richmond when it appears among the available teams. This creates a standalone match; it does not create a persistent Career save or move the club into a league.

Online Friendlies
EA also listed AFC Richmond for Online Friendlies. Set up the online friendly, invite or select the opponent according to the mode’s normal flow, and choose AFC Richmond in the team-selection step if the club is offered. Online Friendlies are for individual fixtures, so the Career league-swap instructions do not apply here.
Online Seasons
AFC Richmond was announced for Online Seasons as well. Select the mode and look for AFC Richmond in the team choice presented by FIFA 23. The team’s presence in Online Seasons is distinct from managing it over multiple seasons in Manager Career.

Ultimate Team
EA described Ted Lasso/AFC Richmond content for Ultimate Team as unlockable items where applicable. Ultimate Team items are not the same thing as selecting Ted as a Career manager or replacing a league club with AFC Richmond. Use the objectives, challenges or item descriptions shown in your FIFA 23 Ultimate Team interface to determine what is available in your account and what each item does.
Pro Clubs
Pro Clubs also received related unlockable content where applicable. Those items belong to the Pro Clubs progression and customization context; they do not establish that AFC Richmond can be inserted into a Manager Career league from that mode.
What the crossover does not prove about later EA SPORTS FC games
The Ted Lasso announcement and instructions are tied to FIFA 23. EA’s EA SPORTS FC 25 product page describes that game’s offerings but does not list Ted Lasso or AFC Richmond among the features presented there. That page alone does not prove that every later release lacks the content, but it does mean you should not promise the FIFA 23 workflow in FC 25 or another newer title without a current, title-specific confirmation.

When evaluating a newer game, check all three points:
- Game name and year: Confirm whether the official announcement names FIFA 23, EA SPORTS FC 24, EA SPORTS FC 25 or another release.
- Mode wording: Look for explicit references to Ted as a manager, AFC Richmond in Career Mode, and the individual team modes you want to use.
- Edition and platform: Verify that the feature applies to your console or PC version and your region before purchasing.
Do not assume that a familiar menu label, a copy of the show or a later EA SPORTS FC branding change preserves the license.

Why the mode distinction matters
Several FIFA 23 menus can mention the same licensed characters while offering entirely different types of play. Manager Career is a persistent club-management save. It is where Ted can be selected as manager and where AFC Richmond can be moved into a playable league. Kick-Off, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons are match-oriented team modes. Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs use related items within their own systems. Treating all of these as one feature leads to the most common setup mistake: searching for the Career manager or league-swap control in a mode that only supports a match or an item.

EA’s September 21, 2022 announcement quotes Jason Sudeikis, the actor who portrays Ted Lasso: “As long-time fans of EA SPORTS FIFA, having Ted Lasso and the whole AFC Richmond squad incorporated into the newest version of the game is truly a dream come true for myself and the rest of the fellas.” The quote appears in EA’s FIFA 23 press release. It describes the FIFA 23 collaboration and should not be read as a release-independent licensing guarantee.
A practical choice guide
- Want Ted’s manager identity? Start a FIFA 23 Manager Career and select Ted Lasso.
- Want AFC Richmond as your long-term club? Start Manager Career, choose AFC Richmond and swap it into the Premier League or another playable league.
- Want one quick match? Use Kick-Off.
- Want a head-to-head online fixture? Use Online Friendlies.
- Want a league-style online match mode? Check Online Seasons.
- Want themed rewards or customization? Check the applicable Ultimate Team or Pro Clubs items and their in-game unlock requirements.
- Want the feature in a newer game? Verify that game’s own official announcement; FIFA 23 documentation is not enough.
For the specific Ted Lasso Career experience documented by EA, the dependable path is FIFA 23 Manager Career: select Ted as manager, or select AFC Richmond and use the league-swap option. The other announced modes let you play with the club or use related items, but they do not replace that Career setup.
