To use Roblox Voice Chat on Xbox, the account holder must be at least 13 and complete Roblox’s age check using ID verification or Facial Age Estimation. Then join an experience that supports voice and connect with its headphone icon or Voice Chat setting. Availability and verification options can vary by region and account.
What you need before connecting
- The Roblox account must be for someone aged 13 or older.
- Complete Roblox’s age check through ID verification or Facial Age Estimation. Phone verification alone does not meet the current requirement.
- Voice must be available in your region, and the experience you join must support it. Developers decide whether to add Voice Chat; check the experience description if you are unsure.
Roblox outlines Xbox eligibility in its Xbox Voice Chat guide and its Voice Chat activation instructions. The Voice FAQ explains that support depends on the experience.
How to turn on Voice Chat in Roblox on Xbox
- Complete the Roblox age check. If you have not already done so, use ID verification or Facial Age Estimation. The available methods can differ by account and region.
- Join an experience that supports voice. Look for voice support in the experience description.
- Connect to voice. In the experience, select the headphone icon, or open the experience settings and turn on Voice Chat. The exact menu presentation can vary by experience.
- Manage your microphone. Use the in-experience microphone control to mute or unmute yourself.
- Disconnect when finished. Open the in-game settings and change Voice Chat from Connected to Disconnected.
Roblox Voice Chat or Xbox Live Party Chat?
These are separate ways to talk. Roblox in-experience Voice Chat connects you with people in a supported Roblox experience. Xbox Live Party Chat is for talking with your Xbox Live friends. Choose based on whom you want to speak with; Roblox’s support pages do not compare the two options’ audio quality or performance.
If Voice Chat does not appear or work
- Check eligibility: confirm that the account is at least 13 and has completed ID verification or Facial Age Estimation. Phone verification is not a substitute.
- Check regional access: Roblox says Voice Chat and age-check methods may not be available in every region or for every account.
- Check the experience: voice is not enabled in every Roblox experience. Look for the headphone icon or Voice Chat setting, and check the experience description.
- Check your microphone: make sure your headset or microphone is connected and not muted. Roblox’s cited Xbox instructions do not specify a complete hardware troubleshooting sequence, so a particular Xbox setting cannot be assumed to fix every microphone problem.
Privacy, safety, and text chat
Voice Chat is not private or unmoderated. Roblox says voice interactions are subject to reporting and moderation systems, including recording. Voice data is used for safety and moderation, and some voice data may also be used to improve Roblox products depending on your privacy settings. Roblox’s rules apply during voice conversations.

You can mute another participant, block them, or report abuse. Muting applies to Voice Chat for the current experience session; blocking prevents engagement through voice chat or experience text chat. If you do not want to speak, disconnect in the experience settings and use text chat where it is available.
On Xbox, Roblox’s text-chat instructions are: press Menu to open the in-experience menu, select Chat, type with the on-screen keyboard, then press R2 to send. A USB or Bluetooth keyboard can also be used for text entry. See What can I do on Roblox on Xbox?
