Use weapons and takedowns to create a safer pass, not at the expense of the race. In Star Wars: Galactic Racer, special abilities can disrupt or protect racers, while a documented takedown setup is to pressure a rival toward a wall or obstacle. Ramjet can help you close the gap, but pushing it too far risks overheating. The key is to choose an opening that leaves you a viable route afterward.
How to use weapons against other racers
Weapons are special abilities you unlock and equip, rather than a confirmed permanent arsenal shared by every craft. A PlayStation Blog hands-on report says its pre-release PS5 demo let players unlock and equip abilities including weapons and shields. That report used L1 to activate an ability, but it does not establish the current binding on every platform or after launch. Check the equipped ability and controls shown in your game.

- Review the ability you have equipped and its in-game description; do not assume every weapon works the same way.
- Look for a moment when using it could interrupt a rival or open a passing lane without forcing you off a safe racing line.
- Use a defensive ability when the immediate threat is collision risk to your own run.
- After activation, return your attention to the route and your craft’s position.
The available hands-on report does not list the full weapon roster, effects, cooldowns, counters, or guaranteed takedown thresholds. There is not enough evidence to name a universally best weapon or prescribe a fixed firing window.

A PlayStation Blog report describes wrecking a rival by forcing them into a wall or obstacle. That makes positioning more important than simply chasing contact: you need a safe approach that puts the opponent between your craft and the hazard while preserving room to continue racing.
#1 Best Overall
- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
- SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
- Choose the opportunity. Look for a section where the rival is near a wall or obstacle and your own line remains manageable.
- Build pressure without losing control. Close the gap with speed if the route allows; avoid repeated collisions or a wide detour just to keep chasing.
- Guide the rival toward the hazard. Apply pressure from a position that leaves the obstacle in their path, rather than steering yourself into it.
- Recover immediately. Once the takedown camera or animation ends, check your direction and steer away from the next hazard before resuming the chase.
PC Gamer’s October 2, 2026 review notes that the takedown camera can leave the player aimed directly at a wall at high speed. That is a reported risk, not proof that every takedown reorients your craft identically. Treat the camera cut as a brief interruption and reassess the track as soon as control returns.
How to use boosts without overheating
According to PC Gamer’s October 2, 2026 review, Afterburner is a modest boost on cooldown, while Ramjet is faster but can dangerously overheat if pushed too far. Use Ramjet to close a gap or set up a pass when the track gives you room to manage the resulting speed; do not carry maximum boost blindly into a corner.

- Watch the game’s heat and status cues as you boost, rather than relying on an assumed fixed duration.
- Choose a stretch with space to steer, brake, or otherwise manage your speed after accelerating.
- Leave room to turn or cool down before a difficult corner or obstacle.
- Use a smaller boost or hold position if a faster approach would make the next section unsafe.
The PlayStation Blog’s pre-release PS5 demo report described Afterburner as activated with X and Ramjet by holding R3. Those are demo-specific controls, not universal current bindings; verify controls on your platform in the game.

PC Gamer’s review reports that Cooled can trigger at high speed or while cruising over water, lowering heat. Burning can result from a rival’s flame jets or racing over lava, raising heat. The review also mentions Overcharged, Corroded, and Shielded, but does not provide a complete reference chart for their effects.

Use the visible heat and status indicators to decide whether to keep boosting or change your approach. A rival’s attack or the surface you are crossing can alter the situation, so do not assume Ramjet is equally safe throughout a circuit.
Choose a craft that helps you hold your line
The official vehicle guide and PlayStation Blog hands-on report describe meaningful differences between craft, but do not establish a single best choice for takedowns. Pick for the circuit and for the way you handle speed, contact, and corners.

| Craft | Supported strengths | Tradeoff to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Landspeeder | Stable handling, drifting, and durability; described as beginner-friendly. | Heavier and not built for top speed; its stability and durability can help you maintain a clean line through contact. |
| Speeder bike | Fast and agile; Kinetic Burst provides a temporary speed increase. | Light armor and easier to crash; the burst can make control and wide turns harder for an unpracticed player. |
| Skim speeder | Balances resilience and agility; Knife Edge supports sharp corners. | Slow acceleration, so boost timing may matter when closing a gap. |
| Podracer | Built for speed; Ramjet adds speed and airbrake helps with tight turns. | Airbrake sharply reduces velocity, so managing turn control against speed is important. |
Keep the race ahead of the takedown
Galactic Racer is still a racing game: its official descriptions emphasize speed, varied routes, risk-reward choices, and craft-specific advantages. PC Gamer’s post-launch review likewise says takedowns were less central than the reviewer expected. Take a disruption when the track presents a useful opening, then prioritize your route, speed management, and next hazard over pursuing contact at any cost.
