While you’re live, check stream health and real-time performance in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. After the broadcast, open YouTube Studio > Content > Live > select the stream > Analytics > Engagement to review its post-stream concurrent-viewer report. Menu labels can vary as YouTube rolls out Studio changes.
Check a live stream while it’s broadcasting
- Open the stream’s dashboard in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Check stream status for health information or errors.
- Review the real-time cards available for how you started the stream. On a computer, YouTube lists concurrent viewers, duration, likes, chat rate, views, and estimated average view duration.
These live figures are useful for monitoring an event as it happens. They are not necessarily the final figures: YouTube says Analytics data is keyed to Video ID, processed, and despammed, and measures different information from Live Control Room.
Find the report after the stream ends
- In YouTube Studio, select Content, then Live.
- Select the ended stream.
- Open Analytics, then Engagement.
The video-level concurrent-viewer report is generally available within minutes after a stream ends. The post-stream report can also show chat messages. For broader reporting, YouTube Analytics offers Live, On demand, and Live & on demand filters. Watch-time reports include watch time, audience retention, demographics, playback locations, traffic sources, and devices. Content/Live reporting also describes how viewers found live streams and reports peak and average concurrent viewers.
Understand concurrent viewers and engagement
Peak and average concurrent viewers
Concurrent viewers are people watching at the same time. Peak concurrent viewers is the highest simultaneous audience at one point; average concurrent viewers describes the average simultaneous audience. A peak is a high-water mark, not a typical audience level. Read it alongside the average and the stream’s watch time.

Views, viewing time, and chat
Views, average view duration, and total watch time help describe viewing volume and time spent watching. Consider them with audience retention and traffic sources to understand both how viewers arrived and how long they stayed. Chat rate and chat messages count message activity, not unique people participating.
Compare streams without mixing unlike data
For a useful comparison, keep the reporting level and date range consistent: compare video-level results with video-level results, or channel-level results with channel-level results. YouTube provides both, and mixing the two can mislead.

- Compare average and peak concurrent viewers together, not peak alone.
- Include watch time, average view duration, and retention to add context about viewing time.
- Check chat activity and traffic sources to see how interaction and discovery differed.
- Account for stream duration and format. A longer event or a stream combining horizontal and vertical formats may not be directly comparable to a shorter or single-format stream.
There is no universal “good” value established for these metrics. Interpret results against your channel’s own previous streams and the format and duration of each event.
Export or explore reports in Advanced Mode
Advanced Mode provides expanded reports, comparisons, and export options. YouTube’s general Studio guide says a Studio update is rolling out gradually beginning July 2026, so menus and labels may not look identical for every creator.

Separate vertical metrics from a dual-format stream
Live Control Room combines metrics when you stream both horizontal and vertical formats. To inspect the vertical stream separately, YouTube’s instructions are to wait at least 24 hours after the stream ends, then:
- Open the ended stream in Studio and choose Analytics, then Advanced Mode.
- Choose Playback location as the breakdown.
- Set a reporting period longer than the first 24 hours.
- Choose Vertical live feed.
Use audience timing data to plan the next stream
The Audience tab’s When your viewers are on YouTube report reflects the last 28 days and can help you plan when to schedule a future broadcast. It describes channel audience context, not the performance of one particular stream. Audience and demographic data may be limited.
