To send a Gurbani broadcast to YouTube, open YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live, copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into your encoder, then start the encoder and check its preview. For a scheduled stream, click Go live in Live Control Room when the preview is ready. A reusable key can simplify repeat setup, but neither a reusable key nor YouTube’s auto-start setting guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 stream.

Check channel readiness before configuring the encoder

YouTube’s current Help guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live streaming tips and encoder setup guide.

Create or schedule the YouTube stream

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
  2. For an immediate setup, use the Stream tab. To plan ahead, use Manage → Schedule stream. A scheduled stream can be promoted, and viewers can set reminders.
  3. Choose the privacy setting that fits your purpose: public, private, or unlisted. Check it rather than assuming a default; YouTube notes defaults can vary by age.
  4. For an event, YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours in advance and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event.

See YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder for the current Studio workflow.

Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder

  1. In Live Control Room, locate the stream’s Stream URL and Stream key. The URL is the destination; the key identifies and authorizes the incoming feed. YouTube describes keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.”
  2. If your encoder has a YouTube destination option, select it and enter the key as prompted. Otherwise, paste the URL into its server or RTMP field and the key into its stream-key field.
  3. Set up the video and audio feed in the encoder. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate recommendations as a starting point, then match settings to the source and your upload connection.
  4. Keep the key private. Anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.

Choose settings that suit the Gurbani recording

YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS with H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1; frame rates up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends AAC or MP3 at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Confirm that your encoder supports the protocol and settings you choose.

Setting YouTube guidance
Video protocol and codecs RTMP/RTMPS; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1
Frame rate Up to 60 fps
Bitrate mode Constant bitrate (CBR)
Keyframe interval Recommended: 2 seconds; no more than 4 seconds
Stereo audio AAC or MP3; recommended 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz

Bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, YouTube’s current table recommends 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps; its listed minimums are 5 Mbps and 3 Mbps respectively. These are format-specific recommendations, not universal targets. Check YouTube’s current settings table when configuring the encoder, and make sure your connection can sustain the chosen upload rate.

Start the feed, preview it, then go live

  1. Start streaming from the encoder.
  2. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check the picture, audio, and stream-health messages before sending viewers to it.
  3. For a scheduled-stream workflow, select Go live in Live Control Room once the preview is ready. Confirm that the public watch page is reachable with the intended privacy setting.
  4. Test the complete setup ahead of the broadcast, including playback on a mobile device. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream and monitoring stream health while live.

For a devotional broadcast, listen for clipping, silence, or an unexpected audio channel, and check that the image and audio remain synchronized. The encoder preview is useful for catching problems before viewers arrive.

Reuse a key for repeat broadcasts—and understand its limits

You can create a custom stream key in YouTube Studio and reuse it for later broadcasts. YouTube also offers auto-start and auto-stop settings so the encoder can start or stop the stream. When using Reuse settings, check the copied key and auto-start/auto-stop selections rather than assuming they match the new broadcast’s needs. These options simplify operation; they do not ensure that an encoder, computer, or network will stay online continuously.

Plan carefully for a genuinely continuous stream

YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its published guidance does not promise an archive for a stream that runs longer than 12 hours, so do not treat a single 24/7 broadcast as a guaranteed recording. If you need a preserved copy, plan a separate recording and a continuity approach that accounts for the archive limit.

A continuous stream also depends on the encoder and its power and network connection. YouTube’s guidance recommends monitoring the stream and messages, but the cited setup instructions do not promise uninterrupted operation or automatic recovery from every interruption. Decide who will monitor the feed and how it will be restarted if it stops.

Check recording rights before broadcasting Gurbani

Devotional subject matter does not establish permission to rebroadcast a particular recording. Confirm that you have the necessary rights from the recording’s rights holder, including any relevant audio and video, and follow YouTube’s policies. YouTube’s setup guidance cannot determine whether a specific Gurbani recording is cleared for your channel.

Troubleshoot common stream-key and playback problems

  • Encoder says the key is invalid: Copy the key again from Live Control Room and paste it into the encoder’s stream-key field. If the problem persists, generate a new key and update the encoder. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide covers key errors.
  • The key may have been exposed: In Studio, go to Go Live → Stream → Stream key → Reset, then replace the old key in the encoder. YouTube says only a channel owner or manager can reset it.
  • The feed reaches YouTube but is not public: Check the privacy setting and whether you are using the scheduled-stream workflow. For a scheduled stream, start the encoder, confirm the preview, and then select Go live in Live Control Room.
  • Video or audio is unstable: Check stream-health messages, connection stability, and whether the encoder’s codec, bitrate, keyframe interval, and audio settings match YouTube’s current recommendations. Test the actual source before restarting the broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a pre-recorded Gurbani video to loop on YouTube without leaving a computer and home connection running, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud.
