How to Verify Apex Legends Game Files in Steam

To verify Apex Legends files in Steam, open the game’s Properties → Installed Files page and select Verify integrity of game files. Steam checks the installation and may replace files it identifies as damaged or missing.

1. Restart your computer, then open Steam.
2. Open Library. Right-click Apex Legends in the game list, or open its Library page and click the gear icon.
3. Select Properties.
4. Choose Installed Files, then click Verify integrity of game files.
5. Wait for Steam to finish. Steam says the check may take several minutes. If the client’s labels differ slightly after an update, follow the current labels shown in Steam.

What a failed-file notice means

Steam may report that one or more files failed to verify. That message alone does not mean the installation is still broken: Steam says it is normal for some files to fail verification because they may be local configuration files that should not be replaced.

When to run the check

Steam recommends file verification for installation or update problems. Avoid running it while other resource-intensive tasks, such as virus scanning or disk defragmentation, are underway, and do not verify multiple games at the same time.

If Apex Legends still will not launch

Verification is a check of the Steam installation, not a diagnosis of every possible launch problem. If the issue continues, Steam’s general troubleshooting guidance includes updating your operating system and drivers, disabling nonessential software, checking the game’s system requirements, and contacting the game’s developer for in-depth help. Steam’s listing identifies Respawn as the developer and Electronic Arts as the publisher; it also says an EA account linked to a Steam account is required to play.
