In Anno 117: Pax Romana, trade sits on top of your settlement’s goods network: production chains make goods, roads move them to warehouses or trading posts, and those storage buildings share what they hold. Ubisoft describes trade’s broad purpose as acquiring goods or selling surplus. The available official guidance confirms these foundations, but not a current, step-by-step ship-route setup, so use the in-game interface to verify route controls in your build.
How goods move through your settlement
Trade begins with production. In Ubisoft’s beginner guide, a Woodcutter gathers wood and a Sawmill turns it into Timber. Both buildings need road access and access to a trading post or warehouse for the chain to work as intended.

Roads let production buildings transport goods to other production buildings or to the nearest warehouse. Warehouses and trading posts act as shared storage nodes: Ubisoft says they are connected, so goods deposited at one are accessible at the others. This explains the local logistics layer; it does not establish every rule governing a ship’s trade route.
These mechanics are described in Ubisoft News’ beginner guide, published November 13, 2025: Anno 117: Pax Romana beginner’s guide.

Why use trade?
- Acquire goods: Ubisoft presents trade as a way to obtain goods your settlement needs.
- Sell surplus: Trade can also be used to dispose of goods beyond your settlement’s needs.
These are the confirmed high-level purposes. Ubisoft’s beginner guidance does not specify prices, profit margins, particular trading partners, passive-trade behavior, or the controls for setting buy and sell quantities, so those details should be checked in the current game rather than assumed.
What is confirmed about ships and routes?
Ubisoft describes ships as modular and includes trade among the game’s province-level systems. That establishes ships and trade as part of the game, but the official sources available here do not provide an end-to-end ship-route walkthrough. They do not confirm the current steps for assigning a ship, choosing stops, configuring loading or unloading quantities, or setting trade permissions.

Route menus and filters can change between builds. Ubisoft patch search results refer to changes or fixes involving goods filters and route-screen navigation, but do not establish which patch is latest or provide a verified current menu path. Before following any route instructions, check the interface in your installed build and consult the game’s current patch information.
