inZOI’s official updates confirm several ways a Zoi can die, but they do not publish a complete current list. The clearest documented risk is swimming with low energy; natural disasters and temperature changes are also possible causes, and fire appears in official patch history. Other causes circulate in community guides, but their current status is not established.
Confirmed death risks in inZOI
Drowning or accidents while swimming
When KRAFTON introduced swimming in pools and the ocean in v0.3.0, it warned: “Be careful—low energy may lead to drowning or accidents.” The warning identifies low energy as a risk, not a guaranteed outcome. The patch notes do not specify an energy threshold or say that every swimming location behaves identically. KRAFTON’s v0.3.0 patch notes describe the mechanic.

Natural disasters and temperature changes
Dynamic weather introduced in v0.3.0 included dust storms, heavy rain, and heat waves. KRAFTON said these events could affect the city and lead to unexpected accidents during outdoor activities. Later updates confirm that death was possible, while also showing that its probability changed: an August 29, 2025 hotfix reduced deaths during natural disasters after Zois were dying too frequently in events such as heat waves. In the October 30, 2025 v0.4.0 notes, KRAFTON said it further reduced the probability of death from natural disasters or temperature changes. These are possible hazards, not assured outcomes; the notes give no current numeric rate. The v0.3.0 notes, the v0.3.4 hotfix, and the v0.4.0 notes document the changes.

Official patch-history material refers to Zois dying in fires and to fixes for fire-incident behavior. It does not establish the exact current triggers or whether a Zoi can be rescued in every situation. Fire is therefore a documented risk reference, but the available official notes do not support a reliable step-by-step method for causing or preventing a fire death. The community death guide discussion also mentions fire, but is not authoritative confirmation of how the latest build works.

Other causes players have reported—but that are not confirmed here
Secondary and community sources mention starvation or malnutrition, old age, pollution, disease, vehicle accidents, sleep deprivation, electrocution, and lack of recognition or loneliness. Those reports do not establish that each cause is currently enabled or works as described. One guide’s claim of “seven distinct types” dates to June 2024 and should not be treated as a definitive catalogue. What happens after a Zoi dies
Continue as a ghost
In v0.4.0, KRAFTON added the option to choose “On to the Afterlife” and continue playing as a ghost. The ghost state lasts three in-game days. Before departing, the ghost may ascend or attend their own funeral; fulfilling urges related to the cause of death can unlock ghost-only skills. KRAFTON’s v0.4.0 patch notes describe these mechanics.
Urns and funerals
The same update added urns and funeral events. An urn is generated when a city Zoi or someone known to the player dies, and the player can use “Make Event” to hold a funeral. Urns are generated only for Zois who die after that update; deaths before it do not receive one retroactively, according to the notes.
