hpzevwn7.dll is an HP printer-driver component, not a general Windows, gaming, Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET file. If hpzevwn7.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, the safest repair is to remove the affected HP printer-driver package and reinstall the correct driver for your printer and Windows architecture.
Quick identification
| Item | What is known |
|---|---|
| File | HPZEVWN7.DLL |
| Function | A component used by particular HP printer-driver packages |
| Normal location | A Windows printer spool-driver directory such as %WINDIR%System32spoolDRIVERSx643 or a W32X86 driver directory |
| Related files | Other HP DLLs and printer .GPD or .INF files may be nearby |
| Printer families observed | Older HP Color LaserJet and LaserJet packages, including CP5220, CP2020, CP1510, CP4005, CM3530, P3011, and P3015 |
| Architecture | The correct version depends on the installed driver and Windows environment |
| Best repair | Remove the complete HP driver package, restart Windows, then reinstall the model-specific driver |
The filename alone does not prove that every copy is genuine. A legitimate copy should be inside an HP printer-driver package, have Hewlett-Packard or HP as its verified publisher, and appear in the printer spooler or driver-store context rather than an unrelated application folder.

Why the error appears
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because HPZEVWN7.DLL is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading HPZEVWN7.DLL.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because HPZEVWN7.DLL was not found.”
- “Failed to load HPZEVWN7.DLL.”
- “HPZEVWN7.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These messages can have different causes:
- The HP driver package is incomplete or corrupted.
- Windows Update or an old-driver migration left a stale printer reference.
- The file was quarantined by antivirus software.
- The printer was removed while Windows still referenced its driver.
- The driver does not match the printer, Windows version, or x86/x64 environment.
- A dependent HP driver file is missing.
- The print spooler or Windows driver store is damaged.
“Specified module could not be found” does not always mean that HPZEVWN7.DLL itself is absent. Windows may be unable to find a dependency required by that DLL.

1. Identify the affected printer
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Note every HP printer listed.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Record the exact HP model.
If you use a shared printer, note whether it is connected through a print server. The server may have the damaged package, in which case reinstalling only the client driver may not solve the problem.
2. Remove the printer
Select the affected printer and choose Remove. Confirm the removal.
Before continuing, open the print queue and cancel any pending documents. If Windows says the printer is in use, restart the computer and try the removal again.
3. Remove the driver package
Press Windows key + R, type:
printui /s /t2
Press Enter. In Print Server Properties:
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the HP driver matching the removed printer.
- Click Remove.
- Select Remove driver and driver package when Windows offers that choice.
- Confirm and close the dialog.
Remove only the package associated with the affected printer. Several HP models can use similarly named components, and deleting the wrong package can interrupt another printer.
If the driver is reported as in use:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Remove every printer using that HP driver.
- Cancel all print jobs.
- Restart Windows.
- Run
printui /s /t2again.
Do not manually delete random files from C:WindowsSystem32spool.
4. Restart and reinstall
Restart Windows after removing the package. Then reinstall using one of these methods:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Add device on Windows 11.
- Open Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners → Add a printer or scanner on Windows 10.
- Use the official HP support page for the exact model if Windows does not provide a suitable driver.
- Follow HP’s documented legacy-driver instructions when the printer is old.
Choose the driver that matches the exact printer model and Windows architecture. Do not substitute a similarly named driver for another HP model.

The repair worked if the printer installs without an error, a test page prints, and the original program no longer reports hpzevwn7.dll.
Optional Device Manager cleanup
Device Manager can remove a device instance, but it is not always enough to remove the complete printer-driver package.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, or Imaging devices.
- Right-click the affected HP device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove the package through
printui /s /t2before reinstalling.
If Device Manager shows a warning icon, record the device name and error code. Do not delete unrelated HP or Microsoft devices.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
A legitimate HP DLL can be quarantined after a security scan, but you should not restore an unknown copy merely because its filename matches.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Windows Security steps
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
HPZEVWN7.DLLor the HP printer-driver installer. - Expand the event and review its location, detection name, and action.
- Restore it only if the file came from a verified HP driver package and its publisher and location are trustworthy.
After restoring a file, reinstall the complete HP package rather than leaving a restored DLL as the only repair. If Windows Security continues to quarantine it, stop the installation and run a full scan. An unknown copy should not be added to exclusions.
Fix 3: Verify the file location and signature
If the file still exists, inspect it before deciding whether it is legitimate.
Check the path
- Open File Explorer.
- Paste this into the address bar:
%WINDIR%System32spoolDRIVERS
- Check the
x64orW32X86folders and their subfolders. - Right-click
HPZEVWN7.DLLand select Properties. - Review the Details tab.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
A file in an arbitrary download, temporary, game, or application directory deserves additional scrutiny. The absence of a visible signature is not by itself proof of malware, especially for older driver packages, but it means you should rely on a fresh package from HP or Windows rather than that existing file.

Do not assume that a version or file size found in a catalog applies to every HP package. Different driver generations can contain different versions, and both x86 and x64 package contexts have been documented.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Fix 4: Repair the print spooler
A stale spooler reference can keep Windows trying to load a removed driver.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
services.msc
- Press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
- Retry printer removal and driver-package removal.
If restarting does not help:
- Right-click Print Spooler and select Stop.
- Remove pending jobs through the print queue.
- Start Print Spooler again.
- Reboot Windows.
- Run
printui /s /t2and remove the old package.
If the file reappears after deletion, Windows, a shared print server, or a printer setup process may be reinstalling it. Repair the package at that source instead of repeatedly deleting the DLL.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
HPZEVWN7.DLL is third-party printer-driver content, so System File Checker normally will not restore it. Use these commands when Windows itself, the driver store, or related system components also appear damaged.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Repeat the HP driver removal and reinstall procedure.
DISM repairs the Windows component store first; SFC then checks protected system files. If both commands complete successfully but the DLL error remains, reinstall the HP driver package rather than repeating SFC indefinitely.
Recommended Free Tools
When manually hunting through Windows components and repeating repair scans makes the cause unclear, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported Windows problems and show what needs attention; its repair actions require the full version, and reinstalling the HP package remains the definitive fix for this printer-specific DLL.
Fix 6: Check driver architecture and compatibility
Windows 64-bit can run some 32-bit printer components, so a folder name alone does not prove which architecture is required. The driver must match the printer model, Windows environment, and package supplied by HP or Windows.
Check your system architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System → About.
- Review System type.
Then check the printer package through Print Server Properties → Drivers. If an old x86 driver is being used for a 64-bit installation, or a legacy package is incompatible with the current Windows release, remove it and install the correct model-specific package.

If Windows offers only a basic or in-box driver, install it first and test printing. Some older HP models are supported through Windows Update or built-in Windows drivers instead of a modern HP installer.
Manually comparing driver versions across several packages is easy to get wrong. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for reported driver issues and identify outdated drivers; its installation or repair actions require the full version, while the exact HP model package remains the correct source for this file.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
Use System Restore if the error began immediately after a driver installation, Windows update, antivirus action, or printer migration and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore.
- Restart Windows.
System Restore can roll back drivers, installed programs, and system settings without removing personal files. Afterward, reinstall the correct HP package if the printer is still missing.
Fix 8: Scan for malware or a tampered copy
Do not whitelist a file simply because it is named HPZEVWN7.DLL.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Scan options.
- Run a Full scan.
- If suspicion remains, select Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
A file placed outside the printer-driver folders, signed by an unexpected publisher, or created by an unknown installer should be removed and replaced through the complete HP package.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL by itself
Random DLL download sites sites can provide the wrong HP driver generation, wrong architecture, incomplete dependencies, or a modified file. Even a genuine-looking DLL in the wrong folder may leave Windows with an incomplete driver package.
Use the exact HP printer support route, Windows Update, or Windows’ Add device workflow instead.

Do not copy it into System32
HPZEVWN7.DLL belongs to a printer-driver package. Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32 can create an architecture mismatch and does not register the associated .INF, .GPD, companion DLLs, or driver-store data.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Do not routinely use regsvr32
Do not run:
regsvr32 HPZEVWN7.DLL
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It does not rebuild a printer-driver package, restore missing dependencies, or repair a spooler reference.
Do not use registry cleaners
Registry cleaning does not reinstall the HP package and can remove printer associations that are still needed. Use Print Server Properties and the normal printer-management interfaces instead.
FAQ
Which HP printer installed hpzevwn7.dll?
Public driver inventories have associated it with several older HP Color LaserJet and LaserJet packages, including CP5220, CP2020, CP1510, CP4005, CM3530, P3011, and P3015. The exact model depends on the driver package installed on your computer.
Is hpzevwn7.dll a Windows system file?
No. It is HP printer-driver content. SFC and DISM may repair Windows components around it, but they are not the primary way to restore this DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIs it safe to delete?
Do not delete it directly from the spooler directory. Remove the associated printer and complete driver package through Windows, then reinstall the correct package.
Why does the error affect only one user?
The affected user may have a per-user printer mapping, stale connection, or application-specific print configuration. Test the printer from another Windows account. If the second account works, remove and recreate the printer connection for the affected profile.
What if the error occurs only on a shared printer?
The print server may be supplying the damaged or incompatible package. Ask the administrator to remove and reinstall the driver on the server, then remove and reconnect the shared printer on the client.
What if no current driver exists?
Use a documented legacy driver, a compatible Windows in-box driver, or replace the printer. Do not replace the missing component with an unverified standalone DLL.
