Hunt: Showdown Guns Not Reloading? Manual Reloads, Known Issues, and What to Check

Hunt: Showdown guns do not reload automatically. Here’s how to tell intended behavior from a possible reload failure and what Crytek’s published notes say.

In Hunt: Showdown, guns do not reload automatically when they run out of ammunition: you must issue a reload command. If you do that and the weapon still will not reload, the symptom could be an intended weapon behavior, a visual glitch, or a weapon-specific defect—not necessarily one universal reload bug. Crytek’s official material reviewed here does not establish a general reload failure in the latest located update, Update 2.8, or a single workaround for every report.

First check: did you issue a reload command?

Crytek’s Hunt: Showdown Game Manual states: “Your gun will not auto reload when you run out of ammo, and in Hunt, all reloading must be done manually.” An empty trigger pull produces a click, which can give away your position. So if a weapon ran dry and you expected it to reload on its own, that is the game’s intended behavior rather than evidence of a bug.

Reloading also varies by weapon. The manual says every gun has slightly different reloading behavior, and most weapons load one bullet at a time. A reload animation or the time it takes to top off one weapon may therefore differ from another.

If a reload command appears to fail, describe the symptom

“Not reloading” can mean different things. A weapon might remain unloaded after a reload command, ammunition might behave unexpectedly after a switch, or bullets might simply be missing from the reload animation. Those are not interchangeable symptoms, and the available official notes do not establish that they share one cause.

  • BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
  • Functional failure: The weapon remains unloaded or cannot fire after you tried to reload.
  • Ammunition behavior: The issue began after changing ammo or involved a mixed-ammo loadout.
  • Visual issue: The reload animation does not show bullets even though the weapon’s functional state may be different.

To make a reproducible report useful, note the weapon, ammo type, platform, input method, action immediately before the attempted reload, what the animation showed, and whether the problem happened again. These details help distinguish cases; Crytek has not prescribed them as a troubleshooting procedure.

What Crytek’s published notes establish

Some historical fixes were specific to a weapon or action

Crytek’s early-2025 quality-of-life update listed a dual-pistol ammo-switching issue that could lead to mixed ammunition, firing problems, or broken reloads. It also listed a visual issue where bullets were not visible during the 1865 Carbine’s reload animation when using default ammo. These examples show that reload-related defects can be specific; they do not establish one current bug affecting every gun.

Update 2.8 does not confirm a universal reload failure

Crytek announced Update 2.8 on June 9, 2026. Its notes include weapon and ammunition changes, including changes involving Special Long ammo, but do not identify a general, persistent gun-reload failure or a universal reload fix. That absence is not proof that no player is currently affected; it only means the reviewed notes do not confirm such a broad issue.

A 2022 acknowledgment is historical context, not current status

In its November 28, 2022 Update 1.11 test-server announcement, Crytek acknowledged persistent reload issues and said: “Due to this, we have determined that a systemic approach is required to permanently resolve these issues.” That statement describes the situation at the time. It does not show that the same issue remains in 2026.

What to do when the problem persists

  1. Confirm the expected behavior: issue a manual reload command rather than waiting for an automatic reload.
  2. Record the exact case: write down the weapon, ammo type, platform, input method, preceding action, what the animation showed, and whether the failure recurred.
  3. Check current official updates: look for patch notes that name the specific weapon or behavior you encountered. An older fix is not proof of a current status.
  4. Contact Crytek support if it is reproducible: include the details above so the report describes a particular failure rather than a general expectation that the gun reload itself.

The official sources reviewed do not establish a general remedy such as changing a keybind, swapping weapons, disconnecting a controller, or repeating the reload input. Treat those suggestions as unverified rather than proven fixes for this class of report.

Does this affect “many” players?

No relevant published statistic in the official sources reviewed establishes how many players experience reload failures. The word “many” should not be read as a measured prevalence claim. What is documented is the manual-reload mechanic, several dated and specific reload-related issues, and the absence of a confirmed universal failure in the latest located major update’s notes.
