After the import, open Dressing Room, choose the imported skin, and select Equip. A single PNG image is not automatically a complete skin pack, and the documented file-import route is not confirmed for every console.
How do I import skins into Bedrock?
- Check what you have. A skin is a PNG image mapped onto a character. A skin pack is a packaged set of files and metadata; Microsoft lists a PNG graphic,
manifest.json,skins.json, and a language file such astexts/en_US.langas parts of a pack. A PNG by itself should not be renamed to.mcpackand expected to work as a finished pack. - Open the skin pack file. Microsoft’s documented method is to package the skin-pack contents with the
.mcpackextension, then double-click or open that file. Minecraft should launch and import the pack. This procedure is documented for a skin pack; it does not establish a universal import method for every standalone PNG or device. See Microsoft’s skin-pack instructions. - Equip the imported skin. In Minecraft, go to Dressing Room. If prompted to choose a customization route, select Classic Skin, then choose the imported skin and select Equip. Minecraft’s general guide describes the route as Dressing Room > Create Character > Character or Classic Skin; the exact screen can vary by version. See Minecraft’s skin guide.
Where is the Import button?
For the documented skin-pack process, you import by opening the .mcpack file; there is no separate in-game Import button described in Microsoft’s instructions. Once Minecraft has imported it, use Dressing Room to select and equip the skin.
What if Minecraft does not recognize the pack?
Microsoft’s creator documentation says to open Settings > General and turn off Only Allow Trusted Skins if a skin pack is not recognized. Menu labels or behavior may change between game versions. Then return to Dressing Room and check whether the pack’s skin is available.
Can I import a skin on Xbox, Switch, or PlayStation?
Minecraft Bedrock is available on Windows, iOS, Android, Chromebook, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation, according to Minecraft Help’s editions overview. That availability list is not a custom-file compatibility chart. The official skin-pack guides describe opening a file to import it, but do not confirm that this workflow works on every console. Use the steps above only where you can access and open the skin-pack file; do not assume a USB, phone, or cloud-file workaround is officially supported on a particular console.

How is a custom file different from Marketplace skins?
A custom skin pack comes from a file you have and is imported through Minecraft’s file-opening flow. Marketplace content is selected and downloaded in-game: purchased or Marketplace Pass items are available from Marketplace > My Library, while character skins and customization items are found in Dressing Room. Marketplace is an alternative way to get content, not a required step for importing your own pack. See Minecraft Help’s Marketplace guide.
