Hunt the Night is a single-player, retro-styled action RPG built around challenging combat, exploration, hunts, and boss encounters. It is a strong fit for players drawn to dark fantasy and action games that ask them to learn enemy patterns; it is a less obvious choice if you want a relaxed adventure or a well-documented estimate of campaign length. Steam’s listing showed 74% positive user reviews from 364 reviews in a snapshot accessed in 2026, though that figure can change.
What kind of game is Hunt the Night?
Developed by Moonlight Games and published by DANGEN Entertainment, Hunt the Night released on Steam on April 13, 2023. It is a single-player action-adventure with RPG elements and a retro-inspired presentation. The story follows Vesper, a member of the Stalkers, in Medhram—a world threatened by a recurring force called the Night.
The official game description centers on exploring a large world, navigating dungeons, solving puzzles, fighting enemies and bosses, and taking on hunts for powerful creatures. That mix makes exploration and combat the campaign’s main draw, rather than multiplayer or a broad set of side activities.
How does combat and character customization work?
The developer describes combat as fast and skill-based, with traps, enemies, and multi-phase boss encounters. Vesper’s equipment can be tailored by upgrading weapons and choosing armor, dark powers, and moonstones. The official examples include builds focused on critical damage, life steal, poison, close combat, or firepower.

Hunts are another part of the progression loop: the official site says completing them provides rewards that increase health and dark energy. These are developer-described systems, not a verdict from hands-on testing. The sources establish the game’s intended mechanics, but do not provide enough evidence to rate the balance of individual builds or bosses.
Is Hunt the Night difficult?
The official description emphasizes skilled play, and the Steam store page reproduces outlet excerpts that characterize the game as challenging and praise its combat and bosses. Those excerpts are attributed to GameGrin, Hey Poor Player, and Noisy Pixel, but they are not a substitute for a comprehensive difficulty assessment. A reasonable expectation is action combat that rewards attention and practice, rather than a low-pressure exploration experience.

Can your PC run Hunt the Night?
Steam lists the following requirements for the PC version. Meeting them does not guarantee a particular frame rate or performance on every system.
| Requirement | Minimum (Steam listing) | Recommended (Steam listing) |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 or later | Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel i3-6100 | Intel i5-6500 |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 |
| Storage | 9 GB | 9 GB |
There is an important compatibility caveat: Steam’s listing includes a note that the Steam client supports Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024. The game’s listed Windows 7 minimum should therefore not be read as a guarantee that the current Steam client will run on Windows 7.
