Yoshihiro Togashi says that after finishing the work he has already accepted, he plans to turn down future deadline-based requests and prioritize his own manuscripts. His October 5, 2026 update does not announce when HUNTER×HUNTER chapter 421 will be published: ORICON reports that the next chapter’s timing has not been decided.
What did Yoshihiro Togashi announce?
In a post on X on October 5, 2026, Togashi said that overlapping physical and mental health issues had led him to change the work he accepts. He intends to complete his current commitments, then decline future requests that come with deadlines so he can prioritize creating his own manuscripts. A practical English translation is: “Due to a combination of physical and mental health issues, after completing the work I’m currently committed to, I have decided to turn down all future requests with deadlines and prioritize creating my own manuscripts. Once manuscript creation resumes, I will announce it here again.” This is a translation, not verified official English wording. (ORICON; ComicBook.com)
The announcement concerns Togashi’s work priorities. It does not identify a specific new project, promise that HUNTER×HUNTER chapters will resume soon, or set a publication schedule.

When will HUNTER×HUNTER chapter 421 be released?
There is no announced release date in ORICON’s October 5 report. ORICON says chapters 411 through 420 were published between the Weekly Shonen Jump issue released June 29 and the issue released September 7, 2026, and that timing for the next chapter had not been decided as of its report. That makes chapter 421’s status different from an announced upcoming release: readers should wait for a publisher notice or Togashi’s update rather than rely on a predicted window.
An unofficial H×H Status tracker’s September 15 snapshot listed chapter 420 as the latest release and chapter 421 as delivered to Jump but not scheduled. The tracker is not publisher confirmation, and a submitted manuscript does not by itself establish a publication date. (ORICON; H×H Status)

Is HUNTER×HUNTER returning to weekly serialization?
No weekly return was announced. ORICON reports that in December 2022 the Weekly Shonen Jump editorial department said future chapters would use a format other than weekly serialization, following discussions with Togashi and consideration of his physical condition. The October 2026 post does not change that arrangement or announce a replacement schedule. (ORICON)

ORICON reports that the series has surpassed 100 million copies in cumulative circulation, including digital editions. For readers who prefer collected editions, Japanese volume 39 was released July 3, 2026, according to Crunchyroll News. That date refers to the Japanese edition; check your region’s edition and current availability before buying. A volume is a way to read or collect published material, not access to an unreleased chapter or a change to the schedule. (ORICON; Crunchyroll News)
