How the ability loop works
- Earn or obtain Gems. The fan guides describe abilities as Gem purchases. They do not establish the current earning rate, whether purchases can be refunded, or whether prices change by server or update.
- Open the shop or loadout. Select the ability you want for your role. The guides describe purchases as permanent unlocks, but the equip step still has to be completed before a match.
- Read the live ability card. Check the effect, range, duration, cooldown, and platform-specific input shown in your client. These are the values that matter if the guide and the current build disagree.
- Equip before queueing or spawning. A purchased power is not necessarily active merely because it is owned. Confirm that the selected slot displays the ability you intend to use.
- Activate at a decision point. The guides recommend changing the chase with a well-timed use instead of pressing the button as soon as it becomes available. One fan guide identifies Q as the activation key; use the current control display if your platform or build shows a different input.
- Learn the cooldown in a safe situation. The guides do not provide verified cooldowns for the named powers. After one use, watch the in-game indicator so you know when a second attempt is possible.
Reported Runner abilities
Runners benefit when an ability creates time, breaks a line of sight, or forces the Chaser to take a different route. The following names, Gem prices, effects, and numbers are all claims from one secondary guide. Confirm them in the live client.

Cloak
The guide-reported Cloak cost is 1,000 Gems. Its described effect is three seconds of disappearance. The same guide explicitly says a cloaked Runner can still be hit, so this is concealment rather than invulnerability.
Use Cloak when hiding your next turn is more valuable than simply gaining distance. For example, activate it as you approach a junction, then choose the route that makes the Chaser commit to the wrong lane. A straight-line activation in the Chaser’s face may hide your avatar without changing the opponent’s movement decision. If the live card confirms that hits still connect, do not use Cloak as a substitute for dodging or a barrier.

Those details determine whether you should trigger it before a corner or after the Chaser has already committed.
Emergency Airhorn
Emergency Airhorn is listed at 1,000 Gems in the guide. It is described as a short-range blast aimed at the Chaser that produces backward knockback. No current range, stun duration, cooldown, or aim assistance is documented.
Its practical purpose is displacement. Hold it until the Chaser is close enough that a backward shove opens a route, interrupts a body-block, or buys the acceleration needed to clear a crossing. Firing from maximum distance can waste the ability if the target is outside the live hit area. Conversely, waiting until contact may leave no room to recover from a miss. Use the reticle, hit effect, or other feedback in your client to learn the real range.

Airhorn is strongest when the space behind the Chaser is useful to you: a narrow approach, a ledge, or a route that forces a longer turn. If the arena is open and the Chaser can immediately resume pursuit, the same Gem investment may produce less time than a barrier or concealment effect.

Pocket Door
The guide reports a 400-Gem Pocket Door that places a temporary door in front of the Runner and blocks the Chaser from following for six seconds. Treat both the price and the six-second duration as unverified. The guide does not explain whether the door can be placed on every surface, whether it has health, or whether the Chaser can remove or bypass it.
Place the door where it changes the route rather than where it merely touches the Chaser. A doorway, corner, or narrow bridge can turn six reported seconds into a longer detour. Dropping it in a wide-open area may let the Chaser walk around it without losing much ground. If placement is directional, face the route you intend to cross before activating.
Check whether the door appears immediately or after an animation. If there is a delay, create a small lead first. Also test whether teammates can pass through it, since a barrier that helps one Runner could obstruct another. The live collision rules are more reliable than the fan description.
Reported Chaser abilities
Chaser powers either bring a Runner into reach, extend the threat zone, or provide movement that closes a gap. The following values are examples from the same secondary guide and may no longer match the current build.

Use a pull when the Runner has committed to a predictable lane or is about to cross a narrow opening. Aim where the Runner will be when the projectile reaches them, not necessarily at the avatar’s current position. A missed throw can leave you without the tool needed to stop the next corner, so avoid launching it at a distant target who still has several escape options.
Test the live projectile width, whether it stops at map geometry, and whether it can target a Runner through a door or around a corner. If the client shows a maximum range different from six studs, follow that display. The strategic principle remains the same: pull only when the new position improves your immediate attack angle.
Big Dagger
Big Dagger is reported to cost 900 Gems. The guide says it doubles melee range for the next hit and provides a five-second window. Do not assume that the multiplier or timer is still current.
Activate it before a committed swing when the Runner believes they are just outside normal reach. The value comes from surprise and spacing, not from pressing it at the start of a long pursuit. If the ability card describes a single empowered hit, make that hit count; do not spend the window on a speculative swipe through a corner.
Learn whether the five-second period starts on activation or on the first attack, and whether a missed swing consumes the effect. Those distinctions change whether you should trigger it while closing distance or immediately before contact.
Rocket Shoes
The guide reports an 850-Gem Rocket Shoes ability that dashes in the movement or camera direction while the Chaser is standing still. Its current input, distance, direction priority, cooldown, and collision behavior are not established.

Use mobility to cut off a route rather than simply chase the Runner’s current position. If camera direction takes priority, aim the camera at the exit you want to cover before activating. If movement input takes priority, hold the desired direction and confirm the result in a safe test. A dash that starts only while stationary may fail if you press it during acceleration, so deliberately release movement first if the live card requires that condition.

The fan guides describe movement as acceleration- and momentum-based, with a lateral dash mentioned in one control table. They disagree on some control details, and the official listing supplies none. Do not treat any fan-made keyboard map as canonical.
Open the in-game controls panel after updates and note the exact labels for movement, dash, ability, interact, and camera actions. On keyboard, Q is the trigger identified by one guide for an equipped ability; console and mobile layouts may use a different button. If the control screen shows more options than a guide, trust the current screen.
Momentum also affects ability timing. A Runner who activates a barrier while already moving may place it at a different distance than a stationary Runner. A Chaser who uses a pull or dash while turning may send it along an unexpected vector. Practice each power once without an opponent, then once with a friend or low-pressure match, and record the observed range and cooldown in your own notes.
How a new Runner should start
- Confirm the objective. The fan descriptions frame the Runner’s job as crossing while avoiding the Chaser. Read the current round instructions because map objectives can change.
- Choose one ability that solves a specific problem. Pick concealment for route uncertainty, displacement for close pressure, or a barrier for a choke point. Do not buy based only on the lowest reported price.
- Study the card before the round. Record the live cost, activation key, duration, cooldown, and restrictions. If any value differs from the table above, use the client value.
- Identify two activation locations. Choose one early route where the ability can create space and one fallback location near the finish or a safe turn.
- Keep moving until the ability changes the chase. Panic activation often gives the Chaser information without forcing a mistake. Trigger when the effect will open a crossing, hide a turn, or make a barrier meaningful.
- Review the result. After the round, note whether the Chaser could still hit through Cloak, walk around Pocket Door, or recover from Airhorn. This is more useful than assuming a guide’s old behavior still applies.
How to play Chaser with an ability
- Watch the route commitment. Wait for the Runner to choose a lane, corner, or crossing before spending a pull, reach extension, or dash.
- Keep the ability aligned with your objective. Rufus’s Leash should improve your next attack position; Big Dagger should make a likely hit unavoidable; Rocket Shoes should cut off an exit.
- Preserve one normal chase option. Do not use the ability so early that the Runner can simply reverse direction while you wait for cooldown.
- Confirm the hit feedback. Learn whether a successful pull, dagger strike, or dash produces a sound, marker, or cooldown change. Visual feedback can differ after an update.
- Adapt to the actual map. A straight projectile, extended melee hitbox, or directional dash is less valuable when walls and elevation interrupt it. Use the ability where geometry supports the effect.
Comparing abilities in the live game
If the shop displays additional powers, compare them using the same questions instead of assuming the six examples are exhaustive.

Common problems and fixes
Q does nothing
Check that the ability is equipped, not merely owned, and verify the current key or button in the control panel. Confirm that the round has started and that the ability is not on cooldown. Some powers may require a target, a clear line, or a stationary state.

The effect looks weaker than the guide says
Use the live card as the authority. Fan values such as three seconds, six seconds, six studs, five seconds, and doubled range are not official balance guarantees. An update may have changed them without changing the guide’s wording.
The ability fails near a wall or door
Move into open space and test again. Straight projectiles, dashes, and placed barriers can be affected by collision geometry. Record whether the failure is caused by obstruction, range, angle, or a placement restriction.
A Runner is hit while using Cloak
This behavior is specifically reported by the fan guide: Cloak hides the Runner but does not prevent a hit. Use it to conceal a route, not as an invulnerability button.

Pocket Door does not stop the Chaser
Check placement and the current collision rules. The guide’s six-second blocking description may be outdated, and a door in open terrain may be bypassed even if it works correctly.
Rocket Shoes moves the wrong way
Stop moving, aim the camera, and test the input shown by the current client. The fan description mentions movement or camera direction but does not establish which input has priority in the live build.
