What kind of game is Hyperdevotion Noire?
This is a strategy RPG built around turn-based encounters on a 3D strategy grid. Idea Factory International writer David Alonzo described the grid as a first for the Hyperdimension Neptunia series in a historical PlayStation Blog article about the battle system. The Steam listing calls it a chibi-style strategy role-playing game in which players gather game-referencing allies and fight on trap-laden maps.
That establishes the broad format, not the quality or depth of the tactics. To judge the battles, look for whether terrain and traps make positioning consequential, whether turn order and character roles encourage planning, and whether encounters offer meaningful decisions beyond moving toward enemies and attacking.

Grid battles and status effects
The Steam description presents battles as turn-based encounters on maps with traps. It also lists status effects that can bring both benefits and costs. In a review or first playthrough, the key question is whether those effects change a decision—such as when to attack, reposition, or use an item—or mostly add another layer to keep track of.

Lily System and character bonds
According to the Steam store description, repeatedly pairing characters in battle builds their bonds through the Lily System. The listing also names Lily Boosts and Lily Points, and says higher Lily Rank can contribute to damage. Those are publisher-described mechanics; the listing alone does not show how quickly bonds grow, how much they alter a battle, or whether the system encourages varied team combinations.
Equipment customization
Steam also identifies item customization as a core feature. Its practical value depends on the choices available, the cost of changing builds, and whether equipment decisions meaningfully distinguish characters. The published feature description does not provide enough detail to rate the system’s depth.

Sim Noire
Sim Noire is a home-customization mode. Steam says that decorating Noire’s home unlocks extra scenes. Whether this provides a welcome break from battles or interrupts campaign momentum is a matter to assess in play; the feature description does not establish its size or pacing.
What do ratings and player reviews say?
In the Steam store snapshot accessed October 8, 2026, 79% of 829 user reviews were positive. That is a changing Steam user-review metric, not a critic score, a platform-wide rating, or a consensus across all editions. The Metacritic critic-review page surfaced an isolated positive excerpt, which is not enough to characterize broader critical reception.

Platform and regional availability are more useful decision points than unsupported claims about technical differences. Idea Factory International’s official game page lists Steam and PlayStation Vita. Eastasiasoft announced an Asian Nintendo Switch edition scheduled for March 26, 2026, with an announced price of US$49.99 / €49.99. Because that date has passed, check the Eastasiasoft announcement and current regional listings for present availability and price before buying.

Is it worth considering?
The established appeal is a Neptunia spin-off that combines grid-based, turn-based battles with character bonds, status effects, equipment customization, and an optional-feeling home-customization feature. The evidence here supports describing the design, but not delivering a hands-on verdict about tactical depth, campaign length, replayability, music, or technical performance. For a buying decision, treat those as questions for current player reviews or your own play rather than settled strengths or weaknesses.
