Search the Devastated Lands (Zone 4), especially greener pockets with yellow-brown ground in the volcanic landscape. Sallow Trees have yellow-green, willow-like foliage; chopping one yields Goldenwood logs, also called Sallow Logs. Hytale’s May 2026 Update 5 says Goldenwood is more common across Zone 4 than before, including in some cities and villages.
Where to find Sallow Trees
Look in the Devastated Lands, also described in guides as the Volcanic biome. Search for smaller, greener areas with yellow-brown ground among the region’s grey volcanic terrain. These are the best-supported search clues from player guides, not a guarantee that every such area contains a Sallow Tree.
Hytale’s official Update 5 patch notes, published May 26, 2026, say: “Goldenwood is now found more often throughout Zone 4, including within some cities and villages.” That makes older advice describing the resource as exceptionally scarce outdated. The update gives no spawn rate or guaranteed location, so expect variation between areas and worlds.
Recognize the tree before traveling
Guides describe Sallow Trees as having large, slim, yellow-green foliage with a willow-like shape and light-brown wood. The map icon can be mistaken for one representing yellow mushroom trees. Zoom in on the map, check the surrounding terrain, and confirm the tree in person before committing to a long trip. The guides do not provide universally reliable coordinates.

Can /locate find a Sallow Tree?
Update 5 adds /locate to find coordinates of or teleport to specified biomes, zones, regions, and prefabs. Its notes do not identify individual trees as valid targets, so do not count on the command to locate a specific Sallow Tree. If the command is available in your game, it may help you reach a broader target such as Zone 4 or a relevant region; use the terrain and foliage clues to search from there.
How to harvest Goldenwood
- Travel to a greener, yellow-brown pocket in the Devastated Lands and look for the yellow-green, willow-like tree.
- Chop the tree with an axe.
- Check your inventory for Goldenwood logs, which guides also call Sallow Logs or Sallow Logs in inventory.
These names refer to the harvested resource: guides use “Goldenwood” for the wood and “Sallow Log” or “Sallow Logs” for the log item.

What to do with Sallow Logs
Guides describe two uses: spend the logs on Farmer’s Workbench progression, or refine them into Goldenwood planks at the Builder’s Workbench. Which makes sense depends on whether you need the workbench upgrade or building materials.

Update 4, published March 26, 2026, changed wood and tree systems and Farmer’s Workbench tier availability. Its notes do not specify Sallow Tree locations, but the changes are another reason to verify crafting requirements in-game rather than relying on older recipes. See the Update 4 patch notes.
