Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Hyperkin has announced the Mega 95, a handheld designed to play original Sega Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges. It is not confirmed as a shipping product: Hyperkin’s current FAQ says the Mega 95 “is still in development and is on track,” but gives no release date, price, or final specifications.
Does the Hyperkin Mega 95 play original Genesis cartridges?
That is the announced purpose of the device. Hyperkin’s Articles & Resources page identifies the Mega 95 as a handheld cartridge player, and launch coverage described it as compatible with original Sega Genesis and Mega Drive carts. That is intended compatibility, not a final compatibility guarantee: the reviewed official information does not specify regional support or list cartridge exceptions.
The Mega 95 is a new product concept, not Sega’s Nomad. The Nomad was Sega’s own portable Genesis system; the Mega 95 is Hyperkin’s announced project. Hyperkin has not confirmed the Mega 95’s internal implementation method in its FAQ. Descriptions of how other Hyperkin products work do not establish whether this device uses emulation or another approach.

If you want to prepare a library, buy original cartridges for the games you want to play; no particular game is confirmed as included with the Mega 95. The handheld itself remains in development, so a cartridge purchase should not be treated as a guarantee that it will work on this device.
