HyperX Cloud III Review: Comfortable, Capable, and Worth It at the Right Price

The wired HyperX Cloud III is comfortable, widely compatible, and strong for voice chat, but poor isolation and a less bass-heavy default sound are important tradeoffs.

This review covers the wired HyperX Cloud III, not the separate Cloud III Wireless. The wired headset is a strong option for gaming chat if comfort, a capable microphone, and flexible wired connections matter most. It is less suitable if you need to block outside noise or keep headset audio from leaking into the room. Whether it is a good value depends on the price you find.

Is the wired HyperX Cloud III worth buying?

It is worth considering for players who want a comfortable, sturdy wired headset with a very good microphone and low latency across its connection types. RTINGS finds it well suited to wired gaming, but also reports poor noise isolation, sound leakage, a bulky design, and a default sound profile with less bass than some alternatives. Those tradeoffs make it a better fit for quiet rooms and voice chat than for noisy spaces or private listening.

HyperX’s US product page displayed a $99.99 MSRP and in-stock status when accessed on October 8, 2026. That is a changeable manufacturer-page listing, not a guaranteed street price or Amazon price. Check current retailer pricing and return terms before deciding whether it is a deal.

Wired Cloud III versus Cloud III Wireless

These are separate products, not two names for the same headset. The wired Cloud III connects via 3.5mm, USB-C, or USB-A, depending on the device and included adapter. The Cloud III Wireless is a different model with its own compatibility and battery claims. HyperX’s US page marked the wireless version discontinued and out of stock when accessed on October 8, 2026; it displayed a $149.99 MSRP.

HyperX Cloud III – Wired Gaming Headset, PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Angled 53mm Drivers, Spatial Audio, Memory Foam, Durable Frame, Ultra-Clear 10mm Mic, USB-C, USB-A, 3.5mm – Black
  • Comfort is King: Comfort’s in the Cloud III’s DNA. Built for gamers who can’t have an uncomfortable headset ruin the flow of their full-combo, disrupt their speedrun, or knocking them out of the zone.
  • Audio Tuned for Your Entertainment: Angled 53mm drivers have been tuned by HyperX audio engineers to provide the optimal listening experience that accents the dynamic sounds of gaming.
  • Upgraded Microphone for Clarity and Accuracy: Captures high-quality audio for clear voice chat and calls. The mic is noise-cancelling and features a built-in mesh filter to omit disruptive sounds and LED mic mute indicator lets you know when you’re muted.
  • Durability, for the Toughest of Battles: The headset is flexible and features an aluminum frame so it’s resilient against travel, accidents, mishaps, and your ‘level-headed’ reactions to losses and defeat screens.

HyperX claims up to 120 hours of battery life for the wireless model, tested at 50% volume, and says runtime varies with volume and use. That is a manufacturer claim for the wireless headset, not an independently verified test result and not a specification for this wired review.

Comfort and build

HyperX specifies memory-foam ear cushions covered in leatherette and an aluminum frame. RTINGS describes the wired Cloud III as comfortable and sturdy. Its over-ear, closed-back design is bulky, according to RTINGS, so consider whether a large headset suits your fit and storage needs.

These material and construction details are HyperX’s specifications; comfort and sturdiness are RTINGS’ review judgments. Neither should be mistaken for a guarantee that every wearer will find the fit comfortable.

Microphone and controls

The clearest strength for multiplayer chat is the boom microphone. HyperX lists a detachable, unidirectional noise-cancelling 10mm mic, and RTINGS rates the microphone performance favorably. HyperX also includes onboard controls and says, “The LED mic mute clearly shows when you’re muted.”

The mic detaches when you do not need it. The LED mute indicator is useful for checking mute status at a glance, though the product page’s wording is a manufacturer feature claim rather than an independent assessment.

Sound, isolation, and leakage

RTINGS reports that the default sound profile has less bass than some competing headsets. That may suit players who prefer a less bass-heavy presentation, but anyone seeking pronounced low-end impact may prefer to compare alternatives or adjust the sound where supported.

Isolation is a more significant limitation: RTINGS reports poor noise isolation and sound leakage. Outside sounds may remain audible, while people nearby may hear some of your game audio. If you play in a busy room or need to avoid disturbing others, this is not the strongest choice.

Connection choice affects features. RTINGS says the USB dongle works with PCs and PlayStation consoles, where companion software can customize sound. Analog connection serves most consoles, including Xbox, but software changes cannot be applied over that analog connection. Choose the connection that matches both your device and whether you want software customization.

Cloud III and HyperX Cloud Alpha

RTINGS’ comparison highlights preference-dependent differences rather than a universal winner. The Cloud Alpha has a more neutral sound profile and a detachable audio cable. The Cloud III has better overall microphone performance and sound-customization features. Consider which matters more for your setup: the Alpha’s sound profile and cable design, or the Cloud III’s mic and supported customization.

What comes in the box and warranty

HyperX lists the wired headset, detachable microphone, USB dongle, USB-C-to-USB-A adapter, and quick-start guide as included items. The manufacturer specifies a two-year warranty. Confirm the warranty terms applicable to your region and seller when purchasing.

Verdict

The wired HyperX Cloud III is a sensible gaming-headset choice when comfort, voice chat, and broad wired compatibility outweigh isolation and a bass-forward default sound. Its value is price-dependent: the $99.99 MSRP shown on HyperX’s US page on October 8, 2026 is a reference point, not a promise of current retailer pricing. If you need strong noise blocking, minimal sound leakage, or wireless freedom, look elsewhere; if you want a sturdy wired headset with a strong mic for gaming in a quiet space, it is a reliable option to consider.
