Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment launched on November 6, 2025, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. And yes: you can play as Calamo, a Korok who joins the battle. Nintendo later added a Zelda–Calamo Sync Strike in an update.
When did Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment come out?
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment was released on November 6, 2025. Nintendo first announced the game as a Switch 2 title planned for winter 2025, then confirmed the date in September and said it was available on launch day in November. It is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive; Nintendo does not list a version for the original Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s store listing gives the release date and platform.
Can you play as a Korok?
Yes. The Korok is Calamo, whom Nintendo describes as “A boisterous Korok roaming Hyrule in search of a place to put down roots.” Nintendo’s launch announcement says Calamo joins the battle. A later update added a Sync Strike with Zelda: Calamo throws a boomerang, Zelda rewinds it, and Calamo catches it for a stronger attack when timed well. That confirms Calamo’s role in combat without establishing every detail of the character’s moveset or how the character becomes available. Nintendo’s launch announcement introduces the game and Calamo; Nintendo’s update notes describe the Sync Strike.
What is the story about?
The story covers the Imprisoning War and Ganondorf’s invasion of Hyrule, leading into the events of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo frames it as the “complete, true story” of the invasion briefly shown in that game. Princess Zelda fights alongside King Rauru and the Sages, with Calamo among the new characters.

How does the combat work?
Nintendo describes a Warriors-style action game built around fighting large groups of enemies and taking on bosses. Its listed features include hero-specific fighting styles, team Sync Strikes, and strategic use of Zonai devices, whose effects include water and wind. These are Nintendo’s descriptions of the game’s features, not independent hands-on findings.
Can two people play together?
Yes, but two-player mode is not available from the start. Nintendo Support says you must complete Chapter 1, “The Art of the Blade,” to unlock it, and some battles remain single-player only. The available arrangements depend on whether players use one console or multiple consoles:
