Nintendo announced a new trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment on September 19, 2025, and set the game’s Nintendo Switch 2 release for November 6, 2025. The game has since been released. Nintendo’s official character list names Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, Mineru, Ganondorf and several figures from ancient Hyrule.
What did the new Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment trailer reveal?
Nintendo’s September 19, 2025 announcement presented the game as a story set during the Imprisoning War, expanding on events only glimpsed in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo described combat built around paired Sync Strikes and strategic use of Zonai devices. It also highlighted two-player cooperative play through split-screen and GameShare. Nintendo’s 2025 announcement included a trailer; it does not establish that every character on the game’s roster made a first appearance in that trailer.

How can two players play together?
The game offers split-screen co-op and GameShare, Nintendo’s options for cooperative play. The 2025 announcement specifically identified both alongside the paired Sync Strikes and Zonai-device combat. These are distinct from the separately sold amiibo accessory: Nintendo says compatible The Legend of Zelda series amiibo can grant in-game rewards, but does not say that a particular figure is required.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and released on November 6, 2025. Nintendo’s US store lists a physical edition. The game page and store listing are the appropriate places to check edition details; retailer inventory and pricing can vary.
