Hytale Update 2 was released on January 24, 2026. Its patch notes cover avatar customization, combat, mining, world generation, farming, interface improvements, server tools, and bug fixes. It is a past Early Access update—not an upcoming release or the game’s latest update.

Update 2 arrived during Early Access, which began on January 13, 2026. Hytale’s launch announcement described the game as unfinished, with features still missing and bugs expected; the update should be understood in that context. Hytale’s Early Access announcement
What changed in the Update 2 patch notes?
Avatar customization and appearance
- Added mask and blindfold variants, plus Vampire, Cute, and Orc mouth options.
- Added a white fantasy-cotton cosmetic color and updated the appearance of several hairstyles.
- Improved cape running animations.
- Added an option in the character panel to toggle equipped armor visibility. Server hosts can enable or disable the option to suit PvP or immersion rules.
Gameplay and combat
- Added an item that can raise skeletal minions from nearby bone piles. It has a chance to drop from a large Praetorian Skeleton; the notes do not describe it as a guaranteed drop.
- Polar Bears were buffed.
- The Magma Toad now deals less tongue damage and has a headbutt attack that alternates with its tongue attack.
Mining, ore, and creature drops
- Adamantite now requires a Thorium or Cobalt pickaxe. Lower-tier pickaxes deal less damage to higher-tier ore, while higher-quality pickaxes reduce the number of hits required.
- Ore placement was refactored across zones, with more ore especially underground in the Devastated Lands. In existing worlds, explore newly generated chunks to encounter the changed ore placement.
- Bison, Boar, Cow, Horse, and Warthog now drop Medium Hide instead of Light Hide.
World generation and creative worlds
- WorldGen V2 documentation was prepared for modders, and the Default_Flat and Default_Void templates were added.
- In new creative worlds, the Creative Hub Portal uses WorldGen V2 flat generation with clear weather and limited fog. This behavior applies only to new creative worlds.
Farming and crafting
- Petals became craftable and renewable, and lighter Cloth Block variants became craftable.
- Farming received fixes and recipe or progression adjustments. Eternal crops no longer break from accidental weapon damage, and tilled soil lasts longer.
- Harvested crops can be placed on the ground while crouching.
Interface and accessibility
- Added improvements to editor and color-tool tooltips, made the active hotbar slot more visible, and made double-click handling faster.
- Armor can be equipped with Shift-click when the relevant slot is empty.
- Added quick-action key bindings and improved player markers.
- An optional FPS counter is available under General > User Interface.
- Ophidiophobia mode replaces snake models with Hatworms.
Servers and technical fixes
Update 2 added server auto-update configuration, update-checking and management commands, player notifications, and staged-update handling. The notes also include rendering and stability fixes, server validation and localization changes, and fixes involving timeouts, teleporters, rail carts, respawning, and other issues.

Is Update 2 the latest Hytale update?
No. Hytale’s homepage lists updates released after Update 2, including Update 6 notes and Update 7 pre-release notes. Check the official game update archive for the current sequence of announcements; Update 2 remains a historical changelog.

In its February 17, 2026 Update 3 announcement, Hytale described a plan at that time to bundle weekly pre-release patches into stable updates every two to six weeks once they felt solid, separately from larger story chapters.
