Voidheart and Essence of the Void are different materials. In Update 7, ordinary Void creatures no longer spawn at night in the Echo of Orbis, most Void enemies usually give more Essence of the Void, and Voidhearts drop less often. For a Voidheart, follow Chapter I progression to the Goblin Breach hunt sites shown on the world map; do not treat a high Essence haul as evidence that a Heart is about to drop.

Voidheart is the rarer progression material used for breach-side hunts and advanced equipment. Essence of the Void is a separate, more common ingredient used across many recipes. The sections below explain where to look, how to plan a farming route, what each item does, and how to avoid the outdated advice that still circulates.

What Update 7 changed
Older guides commonly tell players to wait for night and hunt Void creatures in the Echo of Orbis. That route is no longer current. Update 7 removed ordinary nighttime Void appearances from that area and changed the balance between the two Void-aligned drops.
- Voidhearts: Void enemies drop them less frequently than before Update 7.
- Essence of the Void: most Void enemies typically drop more of it.
- Larvae: the Update 7 notes specifically exclude Larvae from the increased Essence behavior; they drop nothing.
- Goblin Breach hunts: the official Chapter I progression article identifies hunts on the far side of a Goblin Breach as a direct Voidheart use and marks hunt sites with a world-map icon.
No authoritative percentage drop rate is published in the official Update 7 notes. A route can therefore be efficient without producing a predictable number of Hearts per hour, and any guide quoting a universal percentage should be treated as unverified or tied to a particular build.

Voidheart: identity, role and current value
What the item is
The Hytale Guide Wiki classifies Voidheart as an Epic item with the identifier Ingredient_Voidheart. Its item description is: “The still-beating heart of a greater denizen of the Void.” The wording distinguishes it from ordinary enemy loot: it is presented as a component taken from a stronger Void being, not as a generic residue.
Why you need one
Voidheart has two important roles:
- Progression: hunts on the far side of a Goblin Breach require a Voidheart. Once Chapter I has led you to those hunts, the world map’s hunt icon is the reliable way to identify the relevant destination.
- Advanced crafting: the community database lists Voidheart in recipes such as Backpack Upgrade II and Mithril weapons. These entries are useful for planning, but recipes can change during Early Access, so open the current recipe in your client before spending a Heart.
Because one Heart can gate a hunt as well as represent a high-tier crafting input, spending your first one immediately on equipment may delay progression. Check the active Chapter I objective and the recipe’s current requirements before committing it.
Essence of the Void: a separate material
What the item is
Essence of the Void is classified as an Uncommon item. Its identifier is Ingredient_Void_Essence, and the item description reads: “It’s unclear whether creatures of the Void produce this essence, or if its presence is required to sustain their existence.” That description reflects a material gathered from Void activity rather than a substitute for the rarer Heart.
How broadly it is used
The Hytale Guide Wiki database lists 17 crafting recipes that use Essence of the Void, including Mithril armor pieces. The count is a snapshot of a community-maintained database accessed in 2026, not a permanent game rule. Treat it as a shopping list for likely materials and verify every recipe at the current crafting station in your game.
Essence’s broader recipe coverage makes it sensible to collect it while pursuing a Heart. It does not, however, convert into Voidheart, guarantee one, or indicate that the next enemy will drop one.
How to get Voidhearts in Update 7
Step 1: follow Chapter I and Goblin Breach progression
Start with the current Chapter I objectives rather than a location copied from an older farming guide. The official progression information ties the relevant hunts to the far side of a Goblin Breach. If the hunt is not yet available in your progression, roaming the old Echo of Orbis route will not replace that requirement.

Open the world map and look for the hunt-site icon associated with the breach-side objective. The icon is the practical locator supplied by the official guidance. Mark the route, prepare your inventory, and travel to the active site instead of searching randomly for an old nighttime spawn.

Step 3: clear eligible Void encounters
Fight the Void enemies that appear at the current hunt site. Update 7 makes the expected result uneven: Essence is generally more plentiful, while Voidheart is less frequent. Continue clearing eligible encounters until the Heart drops; do not stop simply because you have accumulated a large amount of Essence.
Step 4: reserve the Heart for the immediate gate
If the Chapter I hunt still requires the item, keep the Heart in storage until that objective is complete. Only after checking the active objective and live crafting menu should you decide whether a second Heart can be used for a Backpack Upgrade II, a Mithril weapon, or another currently listed recipe.
Step 5: record the build you are playing
Early Access balance changes can alter enemy tables and recipes. Note the Update 7-era behavior in your own checklist, but recheck the map objective and recipe panel after a patch. A personal record is more useful than a fixed drop-rate claim that the game has already invalidated.

Use Void activity, not a Heart-only mindset
Most Void enemies typically drop more Essence under Update 7, so a route designed to gather the common ingredient can be worthwhile even when it produces no Heart. Prioritize areas and encounters that let you defeat several eligible Void enemies safely and repeatedly, then sort the resulting materials after the run.
Exclude Larvae from your yield expectations
Larvae are the explicit exception in the Update 7 notes: they drop nothing. If a route is dominated by Larvae, it is a poor Essence run and cannot be improved by waiting for a different time of day. Change the encounter mix rather than extending the same circuit.
Match the route to your next recipe
Check the current recipe panel before farming. If you need a Mithril armor piece, count Essence as one component among the required materials; if you need a Heart for a hunt, treat the same run as a chance to obtain it rather than as a guaranteed progression method. This prevents the common mistake of collecting a large Essence surplus while still lacking the item that gates the objective.
Separate material storage
Keep Voidheart and Essence of the Void in separate inventory stacks or clearly labeled storage. Their names are similar, but their rarity, identifiers and uses differ. Sorting them together makes it easy to spend a Heart accidentally or assume that Essence covers a Heart requirement.

Choosing a farming route
Use these five questions before you leave base:
- What is the goal? Choose “Goblin Breach hunt,” “Voidheart for a recipe,” or “Essence stock.” The first two require patience for the rarer drop; the third rewards consistent enemy clears.
- Is the location current? If the advice depends on ordinary nighttime Void spawns in the Echo of Orbis, discard it for Update 7.
- Does the route include the correct encounter type? Avoid Larvae-heavy circuits when Essence is the target because Larvae drop nothing.
- What will you do with the next Heart? Decide whether progression has priority over Backpack Upgrade II, Mithril weapons, or another live recipe before the item enters your inventory.
- Can you repeat it safely? A slightly slower route that lets you clear several eligible enemies and return with your materials is more useful than a dangerous detour based on an unconfirmed drop-rate promise.
Common mistakes and their fixes
“I hunted at night in the Echo of Orbis and found nothing.”
That observation is consistent with Update 7. Ordinary nighttime Void appearances were removed from that area. Follow the Chapter I/Goblin Breach objective and use the map’s hunt icon instead.
“I have Essence but no Voidheart.”
This is not a conversion bug. Update 7 intentionally makes Essence more common for most Void enemies while making Voidhearts less frequent. Continue targeting eligible Void encounters and do not use Essence as a progress meter for Heart luck.
“My recipe does not match a guide.”
Community recipe lists are version-sensitive during Early Access. Open the current in-game recipe, compare its ingredients with the database entry, and follow the live client if they differ.

Confirm that the Chapter I step leading to the Goblin Breach hunt is active, then inspect the world map for the hunt-site icon. Searching for an unmarked location from an older guide can send you to the wrong region.
“I spent my only Heart and the hunt still asks for one.”
Check whether the Heart was used in an advanced recipe before the breach-side hunt was completed. Because the item has both progression and crafting roles, keep the next Heart reserved for the active objective until the requirement disappears.
What to verify in the live client
Use the following checks whenever the game updates:
- The Chapter I objective and whether the far-side Goblin Breach hunt is currently unlocked.
- The world-map icon and the hunt site’s displayed requirements.
- The exact ingredients for Backpack Upgrade II, Mithril weapons and Mithril armor pieces.
- Whether enemy behavior or drop descriptions changed in the latest patch notes.
- Whether Larvae still have no Essence drop in the build you are playing.
These checks matter because the item identifiers and database entries are useful reference points, but Early Access can change recipes, encounter placement and drop weighting without preserving an older guide’s assumptions.

A practical inventory plan
Before the run
- Read the active Chapter I objective.
- Open the world map and mark the current hunt icon if a Goblin Breach hunt is available.
- Review the live recipe for the item you may craft.
- Leave enough inventory space for separate Heart and Essence stacks.
During the run
- Prioritize eligible Void enemies rather than waiting for an obsolete Echo of Orbis night cycle.
- Ignore Larvae when calculating expected Essence yield.
- Keep Voidheart as a reserved progression item until the hunt requirement is cleared.
- Track which encounter types produced Essence so you can refine the next circuit.
After the run
- Store Hearts separately from Essence.
- Compare your materials with the live crafting panel, not a static recipe count.
- Return to the hunt icon if a Heart is required, or save it for the confirmed recipe that best serves your build.
Bottom line for Update 7 players
Farm the two materials with different expectations. Voidheart is the scarce Epic progression component associated with Goblin Breach hunts and advanced crafting; Essence of the Void is the more common Uncommon ingredient spread across many recipes. Update 7 removed the old Echo of Orbis nighttime route, increased typical Essence returns from most Void enemies, reduced Voidheart frequency, and left no official percentage drop rate to quote. Use the current Chapter I objective, map hunt icon and in-game recipe panel as your authority.
