If I Am Your Beast crashes on Windows, start with the reversible fixes: restart the PC, close overlays, verify the Steam installation, and update Windows and your official graphics driver. There is no publicly documented, universal crash bug for this game, so work through these eight checks in order and stop when it launches reliably.
First, identify the crash pattern
The symptom usually points to the shortest path:
- Preparing to Launch, then nothing: check overlays, file integrity, drivers, Windows updates and requirements.
- Closes after the logo or during a cutscene: verify files, test without overlays and reset changed graphics settings.
- Crashes only after changing resolution, fullscreen or display options: reset the backed-up configuration and test windowed or borderless mode.
- Crashes after several minutes: test without recording, monitoring, RGB and overlay utilities, then check driver stability and temperatures.
- Works for one Windows account but not another: suspect per-user settings or permissions; back up and cautiously regenerate the game’s settings.
- Fails only on Linux, Proton or Steam Deck: use the separate guidance below; these Windows steps are not a complete Proton solution.
Steam’s general launch guidance recommends checking requirements, updating Windows and drivers, verifying files, disabling interfering software and contacting the developer when those steps fail: Steam launch troubleshooting.
Can your PC run it?
Steam lists these minimum requirements for the September 10, 2024 release by Strange Scaffold and Frosty Pop:

See the Steam store listing. These are minimums, not a promise of crash-free play. Leave additional disk space for Windows updates, Steam’s temporary files, shader caches and saves. Steam’s client notice says the client supports Windows 10 and later, so a Windows 8 PC can meet the game’s listed requirement yet still have a Steam-client compatibility problem: Steam client notice.

Eight fixes, in the safest order
1. Restart Windows and remove obvious conflicts
When to try it: every crash, especially after a driver, Windows or graphics-setting change.
- Close the game and Steam.
- Restart Windows rather than simply signing out.
- Before launching, close Discord, Xbox Game Bar, NVIDIA or AMD recording features, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner Statistics Server, RGB or hardware-monitoring tools, controller remappers and screen recorders.
Launch again. If it works, re-enable utilities one at a time; the last one restored is the likely conflict. Do not assume any listed program is permanently incompatible.
2. Verify the Steam files
When to try it: the game will not start, closes after the logo, or began failing after an update, mod or interrupted download.
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Right-click I Am Your Beast and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and wait for the scan to finish.
- Restart Steam and test the game.
Steam may reacquire only damaged or missing files; this is not necessarily a full reinstall. If files are reacquired but the crash remains, continue. Do not delete saves. An unreliable external drive or underlying disk error can also survive verification.

When to try it: Windows has pending updates, the crash affects other applications, or the PC has not been restarted after a system update.

- Open Settings → Windows Update.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows, even if the update screen does not demand it.
- Launch Steam and test the game.
Steam includes Windows updates in its recommended launch checks. Do not treat an optional preview update as a guaranteed game fix; if the problem began immediately after an update, note that timing for support.
4. Update—or diagnose by rolling back—the graphics driver
When to try it: the crash began after a driver change, happens during rendering or cutscenes, or the driver is old.
- Identify the GPU in Settings → System → Display → Advanced display or Device Manager.
- Download the driver from the official NVIDIA, AMD or Intel support site. For laptops, check the manufacturer’s support page first because customized packages may be required.
- Install it, restart Windows and test.
If the crash started immediately after a driver update, rolling back to the previous stable driver is a diagnostic experiment—not a universal recommendation. Avoid third-party “driver updater” utilities.
5. Confirm requirements and the GPU assignment
When to try it: you use a laptop, integrated graphics, multiple monitors or a system near the minimum specification.
On a laptop, Windows may assign the game to the low-power integrated GPU or to a discrete GPU with a problematic driver. In Settings → System → Display → Graphics, add the game executable if necessary, choose Options, select the intended GPU and save. You can also check the GPU vendor’s control panel.

The minimum Intel HD Graphics 2000 listing is extremely old; a newer integrated GPU is not automatically trouble-free because drivers, power management and laptop firmware still matter. Test with extra monitors disconnected, HDR off, and a standard refresh rate if the crash occurs only on one display.
6. Check DirectX and repair Windows components when errors suggest corruption
When to try it: you see a missing .dll, DirectX message, or multiple programs are failing. This is not a required reinstall for every crash.
Inspect DirectX with DxDiag
- Press Windows, type
dxdiagand open it. - Review the System and Display tabs for the DirectX version and driver details.
- Use Save All Information if you need to send a report.
Microsoft’s guidance is available at DirectX and DxDiag support. Use Windows Update or Microsoft’s official installer for missing legacy components. Never download individual DLL files from random websites.
Repair protected Windows files
Only do this when Windows itself appears damaged or several applications show system-file errors. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run these commands separately:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannowRun DISM first and wait for it to finish; then run SFC and leave the window open until it reaches 100 percent. Microsoft documents the process at System File Checker guidance. “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations” means SFC found no protected-file corruption. If repairs succeed, restart and test. If SFC cannot repair files, pursue Windows repair rather than repeatedly changing game settings.

7. Use a clean boot to isolate background software
When to try it: the game works after closing programs but you cannot identify which service or startup item conflicts.

msconfigand open System Configuration. - Open Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, select Disable all, then choose Apply.
- Open Startup and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable enabled startup items.
- Restart Windows and launch the game.
If the crash disappears, re-enable services and startup items in groups, restarting between tests, until the conflicting program is identified. Microsoft’s full procedure is at How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Restore normal startup afterward: open msconfig, choose General → Normal startup; on Services, clear Hide all Microsoft services, choose Enable all and apply; re-enable the startup items you disabled, then restart. Do not randomly disable Microsoft services or leave the PC in clean-boot mode permanently.
8. Reset a backed-up configuration, then escalate
When to try it: the crash began after changing resolution, fullscreen, controls or other settings and happens before the menus appear.
- If the game still reaches its menus, use any official reset-settings option first.
- Back up local saves and configuration data. Steam lists the game as supporting Steam Cloud, so avoid deleting data until you understand what may synchronize.
- Search your user profile and Steam installation for folders or files named I Am Your Beast. The exact location can vary by version and is not established here as a universal path.
- Rename a suspected settings folder, for example to
I Am Your Beast_backup, rather than deleting it. - Launch the game so it can create fresh settings. If this fails, restore the backup.
Resetting can remove graphics, controls, accessibility and keybinding preferences. If mods, ReShade presets, trainers, DLL injectors or unofficial patches are installed, remove them and run Steam verification before testing again.

Special cases
Antivirus and security software
Pause protection only long enough to test whether it is blocking the game, then restore it immediately. Prefer an allow-list or exception for the official Steam/game files. Never replace executables with files downloaded from strangers.
Linux, Proton and Steam Deck
The Steam listing specifies Windows PC requirements and does not establish native Linux support. For a Windows build running through Proton, try a different Proton version, compatibility setting or shader-cache reset using Steam Play community guidance: Steam’s Linux/Proton launch guidance. Windows-only commands and DirectX advice above are not a complete Steam Deck solution.
When to contact the developer
Escalate when verification completes but the crash persists, the game fails on a system comfortably above minimum requirements, other games work normally, a specific update introduced the failure, or a repeatable level, cutscene or input sequence triggers it. Steam’s game support page lists the developer contact as [email protected]; confirm the current address on the page before sending: I Am Your Beast Steam support.
Include your Windows version, GPU model, driver version, where the crash occurs, the exact error text, whether verification reacquired files, and a saved dxdiag report.

Do not use these “fixes”
- Random DLL-download websites.
- Registry cleaners or paid driver-updater tools.
- Cracked executables or replacement files from forums.
- Permanently disabling antivirus.
- Deleting saves or unverified folders before making a backup.
