“Know My Name” can work as the 2026 League of Legends World Championship anthem and still leave True Damage fans wanting a more group-focused comeback. Riot’s official video is framed around Faker and T1’s historic run, while the song marks True Damage’s first release since “GIANTS” in 2019. Those are related stories, but they are not quite the same musical moment.
What “Know My Name” is—and what it is trying to celebrate
Riot announced “Know My Name” as the 2026 Worlds anthem, performed by True Damage. Riot calls it the 13th Worlds anthem and the first one performed by one of its virtual artists. The track and official video were scheduled to release at 6 pm PDT on October 8, 2026; Riot’s newsroom lists the video on October 9 UTC. Riot’s LoL Esports announcement describes the video as a celebration of Faker’s journey and T1’s three consecutive Worlds titles, including the setbacks and comeback moments along the way. Riot put the emphasis plainly: “This year’s anthem and official Worlds Music Video will celebrate the most iconic pro in LoL Esports history: Faker.”

That is a clear tournament-sized premise: a defining player, a historic team achievement, and the emotional arc behind it. If you wanted an anthem to accompany the scale and mythology of Worlds, the focus makes sense. But an anthem built around a championship story is not automatically the same thing as a comeback vehicle for the act performing it.
Why it can feel short of a True Damage comeback
True Damage’s return carries its own expectation. Riot Games Japan calls “Know My Name” the group’s first release since “GIANTS,” which came out in 2019. After that long gap, a listener might hope for a track and video that reintroduce the group: its sound, its members, and the chemistry that makes True Damage distinct. Instead, the official video’s stated center is Faker and T1’s title run. That does not mean the song is a bad fit, or that Riot intended to sideline the group; it means the anthem’s official storytelling brief and a fan’s idea of a group comeback can pull in different directions.

The act also has two layers worth keeping separate. True Damage is presented through five League champions—Akali, Ekko, Qiyana, Senna, and Yasuo—as personas. Riot names SOYEON, Coco Jones, Vic Mensa, and Sofía Reyes as collaborating artists behind the project. A video can use the group’s identity while giving most of its narrative attention to an esports legend. For someone returning after “GIANTS,” that may make “Know My Name” feel more like a Worlds song featuring True Damage than a self-contained statement from True Damage.
Two expectations, one release
| As a Worlds anthem | As a True Damage return |
|---|---|
| Its official framing celebrates Faker, T1’s historic three straight Worlds titles, and the adversity behind the run. | A natural fan expectation is a stronger spotlight on the group’s identity, its performers, and its own musical return after 2019. |
| The story connects the song to the tournament’s biggest competitive narrative. | The story may leave less room for the group to feel like the main event in its own comeback. |
| This is the purpose Riot explicitly describes for the official video. | This is an interpretation of what a long-awaited group release might offer, not a stated Riot promise. |
These lenses do not cancel each other out. A listener can enjoy the anthem’s place in the Worlds build-up and still wish the release had also delivered a more independent True Damage chapter. That distinction is more precise than asking whether the track is simply “good” or “bad.”

The reaction is personal, not a consensus
In a release-day Reddit discussion, one commenter put the disappointment as “I wish it was more hype.” Others said the song worked for them as a True Damage track but questioned its fit as a Worlds anthem, or wanted a standalone group video rather than a Faker-centered one. Those comments show a way some listeners describe the mismatch; they are individual reactions, not a poll or evidence that fans broadly agree.

What the release sets up next
Riot says True Damage will perform at the Worlds 2026 Final Opening Ceremony on November 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. That gives the group a live stage within the event its new song represents, though the announcement alone does not establish what the performance will include. Riot Games Japan also reported in 2026 that “GIANTS” had more than 230 million streams across platforms. That figure belongs to the earlier song and is Riot’s reported total—not a performance figure for “Know My Name.”
