The title’s five-minute reversal is a personal report, not a benchmark: the author says they switched DLSS off and turned it back on after about five minutes. The game, GPU, resolution, DLSS mode and alternative settings are not specified, so that experience can show one player’s preference—but not what will happen on every PC.
What happens if you turn DLSS off?
It depends on which DLSS feature you disable and how that game handles rendering without it. NVIDIA describes DLSS as a suite of RTX neural-rendering technologies, not one universal switch. Its driver documentation distinguishes features including Super Resolution, Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction. NVIDIA’s DLSS overview and driver documentation explain the separate features.
That distinction matters when interpreting a report that someone “turned DLSS off.” The title does not say which feature was disabled, whether other DLSS features remained on, or what option replaced it. It also gives no game, GPU, display resolution, graphics preset or test scene. There is no stated frame-rate measurement or documented image-quality comparison. The five-minute turnaround should therefore be read as a subjective account, not as evidence of a particular performance loss or visual change.
Is DLSS worth using?
DLSS is intended to improve frame rates in graphically intensive games, but its practical benefit depends on the game and its settings, according to NVIDIA’s DLSS FAQ. The same FAQ notes that players may prefer TAA in one game and DLSS in another depending on resolution, quality settings and implementation. A preference in one title—or one setup—does not establish a universal rule.

For a useful personal comparison, hold the game and scene, resolution, GPU and graphics preset constant. Record which DLSS feature and mode you use, what alternative antialiasing or upscaling setting replaces it, and whether Frame Generation stays enabled independently. If you assess performance, distinguish traditionally rendered frame rate from a displayed rate that includes generated frames; also keep subjective judgments about image quality and responsiveness separate from measured results.
Can you play without DLSS?
Yes, if the game offers a workable alternative for your setup; whether you want to is a separate question. Turning DLSS off may suit a player who prefers the image or feel of another available option, while another player may prefer DLSS in that same game. Check the game’s own graphics menu, since available settings depend on its implementation.

The five-minute reversal illustrates that the author preferred DLSS in their particular, unspecified setup. Without the test details or measurements, it cannot show that everyone needs DLSS, quantify what turning it off costs, or predict how another game will look and run.
