If you enjoy survival horror with a rough, retro feel and an uncanny atmosphere, ANOMALITH’s PS5 demo is worth downloading. It is free, it covers only the opening section of the game, and its save data does not carry over to the full release. The Resident Evil comparison is a matter of taste, not something the developer has said about its influences.
What the demo is
The PlayStation Store describes the title plainly: “This is the demo version of ANOMALITH. Experience the opening section of the game.” The listing names PS5 as the platform, marks the download as free, and specifies one player.

Two details are easy to miss. The store entry lists Japanese as the voice language. On the Canadian PlayStation Store listing, the on-screen languages are English and Japanese. Storefronts in other regions can list different language options, so check your own regional store page before downloading if language matters to you.
What the game is about
The official synopsis describes a girl searching for her missing friend in a world full of anomalies. The full-game listing on the US PlayStation Store names her Reona Minazuki, age 17. After her friend disappears inside an Anomaly Zone, she becomes a Diver for the government-backed Anomaly Zone Countermeasures Office.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
The developer’s listing classifies the game as a survival third-person shooter set in Japan, with liminal spaces and Showa-era retro aesthetics. Those two elements, the empty in-between places and the period styling, are the basis for the atmosphere that makes the game appealing to fans of retro horror.
Why the Resident Evil comparison is a fair starting point
The title’s framing (“scrappy old Resident Evil games”) is a reader-facing shorthand, not a claim that FURYU CORPORATION cites that series as an influence. What the official materials do support is a survival-horror identity, a retro visual and atmospheric direction, and a third-person perspective. If those are the qualities you look for in Resident Evil, ANOMALITH is a reasonable next thing to try. If your interest is specifically in the series’ fixed-camera design or its specific systems, the listings say nothing that would confirm a match.

- TERRIFYING ZOMBIES WAITING AROUND EVERY CORNER -- Driven by insatiable hunger, these creatures act on instinct, gnashing their teeth, ripping at flesh, and devouring their victims. The new immersive camera lets you feel their fangs as they sink into your flesh.
- RACCOON CITY, REBUILT IN INTRICATE DETAIL -- The characters, environments, and story have all been rebuilt from the ground up to create a terrifying world that feels both nostalgic and new.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
This article does not include hands-on impressions of combat, controls, difficulty, bugs or performance. The official listings do not provide that information, and none is offered here.
What the full game adds
The full-game listing describes 12 unique anomalization skills, firearm attachments, artifacts, costumes that can affect stats, and information gathered through Dive Reports and side missions. These are features of the full game. The listing does not establish that any of them appear in the opening section, so do not expect the demo to show them all.
Rank #3
- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

Demo, full game and Steam: where things stand
| Item | PS5 (PlayStation Store) | Steam |
|---|---|---|
| Demo | Free demo of the opening section; one player | Steam community news has described a limited-time early demo and updates |
| Full game availability | US listing shows a release date of 28 October 2026 | Store page states the full game was not yet available when it was last checked |
| Developer and publisher | FURYU CORPORATION (per the listing) | FURYU CORPORATION listed as developer and publisher |
| Demo save carryover | Not transferable to the full version | Not stated in the sources reviewed |
Treat the PS5 and Steam states as separate. A Steam listing that shows the game as unavailable does not mean the PlayStation release has the same status, and the reverse is also true. Release dates can change, so confirm the current date on the store page you plan to use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should try it
The demo suits readers who already own a PS5 and want to test whether ANOMALITH’s mood holds their interest before committing to the full game. Since the demo is free, the cost of finding out is only the download time. Readers without a PS5 will need to buy or borrow the console to play it, and that decision should rest on more than this demo.

- DEEP IN THE BAYOU - When Ethan Winters opened his inbox, the last thing he expected was to find an email from his wife; she had been missing for three years. The place has a seriously creepy vibe, but Ethan continues his search – until a stranger attacks him and knocks him unconscious. Ethan has no idea what awaits him when he wakes up...for he is now in the clutches of the Baker family.
