What Genus Insight does
Genus Insight develops a family of pets rather than being limited to a single pet. The Taiwan reference says analysis consumes Soul Crystals for the relevant family and Kina, and that each family can reach Insight level 10. Higher levels improve access to stronger effects and open more slots. These details come from a Taiwan-referenced summary of an NC Corporation Taiwan guidebook updated August 14, 2026, not from the official global site’s published description.
The official global site describes pets as companions that can provide benefits such as auto-looting, but its published pet information does not explain Genus Insight mechanics. AION2 official global site
Do you need to equip a matching pet, and are all family benefits always active?
That is not established by the available official global information. The Taiwan reference says Insight progression and crystals are shared on the server, but shared progression is not proof that every family effect applies regardless of the pet equipped, or that all family bonuses are active at once.

Until the global client or an authoritative global source confirms the rule, check the effect descriptions and character stats in your own client rather than assuming that server-shared progress answers the equip question. The reader question that prompted this issue specifically asks whether Cogni benefits require a Cogni pet and whether all family benefits apply simultaneously; community comments do not establish the mechanics.
Family names, wheels and slots
Family terminology differs between the regional references. The Taiwan summary translates five collection families as Intelligent, Wild, Nature, Transformed and Special. The English guide uses Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian and Special. Do not assume these labels are official one-to-one global equivalents; use the family names and descriptions displayed in your own game client.

The English guide describes nine slots on each wheel, with slot N opening at Insight level N. It says both leveling pets within a genus and using Analyze add Insight EXP. These are guide-described mechanics, rather than details confirmed by the official global site.
How to progress without overspending on locks
Analyze uses family Soul Crystals and Kina. Locking an effect keeps that effect while increasing the cost of further analysis. The English guide’s resource-saving recommendation is to build Insight first and postpone locks: it says locked lines do not provide Insight EXP, so locking early can slow wheel progression while making analysis more expensive.

- Choose a family. Use the name shown in your client, since regional guides use different English labels.
- Build the wheel. Raise pets in that family and use Analyze to gain Insight, following the English guide’s account of how Insight EXP is earned.
- Delay locks while leveling. The English guide recommends avoiding early locks because of their cost and lost Insight EXP.
- Optimize near the cap. The guide recommends locking only effects close to their maximum once the wheel is around level 9–10. This is an optimization recommendation, not a developer rule.
The same English guide identifies slot four as the wheel’s damage line and recommends it as an early effect target. It also describes the Special wheel as slower to progress because it uses Special, or rainbow, Soul Crystals. Treat both points as guide advice, not independently measured performance results.

The Taiwan-referenced summary says duplicate souls for a max-level pet convert into crystals for that pet’s family. It also says pet souls can come from the corresponding monster or from rewards, and that additional souls can raise a pet’s understanding to level 5. In that summary, pet level grants character bonuses, while collection ownership and counts are shared across characters on the same server. These regional details may differ from the current global client.
