“The program can’t start because igdrcl64.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
igdrcl64.dll is a 64-bit Intel graphics-driver file used by the OpenCL graphics runtime. It is not a normal Windows component, Visual C++ file, DirectX file, or .NET file. The safest repair is to reinstall the correct Intel graphics driver rather than download the DLL separately.

Which fix applies to you
Use the description that best matches what you see:
- A program says the file is missing or cannot be loaded: repair or reinstall the Intel graphics driver first.
- You see “Bad Image” or “not designed to run on Windows”: suspect a corrupted, incompatible, or wrong-architecture driver installation.
- The file appears as the faulting module in a crash report: the DLL may only be where a graphics interaction failed. Repair the driver and the affected application.
- Only one application crashes: repair or verify that application, then test hardware acceleration settings.
- Several games or graphics applications crash: investigate the Intel driver, Windows updates, overheating, memory, and Event Viewer.
- You have AMD or NVIDIA graphics: check whether the computer also has Intel integrated graphics or an older Intel driver installed. Updating only the AMD or NVIDIA driver will not repair an Intel DLL.
- Defender quarantined the file: check Protection history before restoring anything.

It may be stored in C:WindowsSystem32, but a path under the protected Driver Store is also normal, such as:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryigdlh64.inf_amd64_...igdrcl64.dll
The exact version and size depend on the installed driver. An older public record lists 64-bit version 20.19.15.5058 at approximately 4.69 MB, but that is not a universal requirement for every computer.
The related 32-bit file is igdrcl32.dll. Do not replace igdrcl64.dll with it. A 64-bit application needs the matching 64-bit driver component.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFix 1: Identify the Intel graphics device
Before installing anything, confirm whether Intel graphics is present.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Look for an Intel graphics entry.
- Double-click it and open the Driver tab.
- Note the Driver Provider, Driver Date, and Driver Version.
If the Intel adapter has a warning icon, open its Properties and read the Device status message. A disabled device, failed start, or driver error supports the need for a driver repair.
If no Intel adapter appears, select View > Show hidden devices in Device Manager. An old Intel entry can remain after hardware or driver changes, although you should not remove it casually.
Fix 2: Install the correct Intel graphics driver
For laptops and manufacturer-built desktops, use the computer manufacturer’s support page first. OEM graphics packages can include display customizations, power settings, hotkey support, and other hardware-specific changes.

Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through driver pages and guessing which of several installed drivers is stale; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation and repair require the full version. It is optional, and the OEM package remains the preferred source for many laptops.
After restarting, open the affected application. If it starts normally, the missing or mismatched driver component was likely the cause.
Fix 3: Perform Intel’s clean driver installation
Use this when a normal installer completes but the error remains, or when a driver update left old and new components mixed together.
- Temporarily disconnect from the internet so Windows does not immediately install a different driver.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the Intel graphics adapter.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Select Attempt to remove the driver for this device or Delete the driver software for this device, if shown.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the OEM or compatible Intel graphics package.
- Restart again.
- Reconnect to the internet.
The screen may use a basic display driver during this process. That is expected. Do not delete individual igdrcl64.dll files from System32 or the Driver Store. Driver packages contain related files and dependencies that must remain matched.
If ordinary removal does not work, Intel documents using Display Driver Uninstaller in Windows Safe Mode. Select the GPU device type and use Clean and restart, then install one complete driver package after Windows starts normally.
Fix 4: Repair or verify the affected application
A non-Intel application can request igdrcl64.dll because it uses Intel OpenCL or another graphics path. Microsoft Teams, video editors, image tools, games, and other applications may expose the problem even though Intel supplied the DLL.
If only one program fails:
- Open that program’s launcher or settings.
- Look for Repair, Verify files, Scan and repair, or a similar option.
- Run the repair or verification.
- Restart the application.
- Install any pending update for that application.
- If available, temporarily disable hardware acceleration and test again.
A crash report naming igdrcl64.dll as the faulting module does not prove that the DLL is missing or solely defective. It may be where an incompatible graphics call, driver bug, or application interaction surfaced.

For Microsoft Defender:
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open any detection involving
igdrcl64.dll. - Check the full path, detection details, and source.
- Do not restore the file solely because an application reports it missing.
Restore it only when you can confirm that it came from the genuine Intel or OEM driver package and the detection is a false positive. Then reinstall or repair the complete driver. Do not leave a manually restored DLL in place as the permanent fix.
If the file is outside normal Intel driver locations, verify its digital signature and full path before trusting it.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components
Windows repair commands are secondary for this problem. They can repair Windows component-store or protected-system-file corruption, but they may not reconstruct a missing third-party Intel Driver Store package.
Install pending Windows updates first:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Press Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run these commands in order:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
Wait for each command to finish. Microsoft recommends DISM before SFC.
Success means DISM reports that the restore operation completed and SFC reports that it repaired files or found no integrity violations. If SFC reports that it could not fix some files, reinstall the Intel graphics driver rather than repeating SFC indefinitely.
When the manual DISM and SFC process becomes difficult to interpret, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the Windows issues it detects; its free scan shows the findings, while automated repair requires the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling a missing Intel driver package.
There is no normal Windows Features checkbox that installs igdrcl64.dll. Do not enable or disable random Windows features to restore it.
Fix 7: Consider System Restore
Use System Restore only if the problem began after a recent driver, application, or Windows change and a restore point predates the failure.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem started.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore can revert applications, settings, drivers, and updates made after the selected point. It is not the first choice when a clean Intel driver installation is available.

Do not download or register the DLL manually
Do not download igdrcl64.dll from a random DLL library and copy it into System32, SysWOW64, or an application folder. The replacement may contain malware, use the wrong architecture, belong to the wrong Intel GPU generation, or lack matching dependencies. It may also hide the real driver problem.

regsvr32 is not a universal DLL repair command. It applies to DLLs that provide the COM DllRegisterServer entry point. It does not reinstall an Intel graphics or OpenCL driver, and running it against igdrcl64.dll will not repair a missing dependency.
If igdrcl64.dll still fails
Use the scope of the failure to choose the next step:
- One application only: repair or reinstall that application, verify its files, update it, and test with hardware acceleration disabled.
- Every graphics application: reinstall the Intel driver cleanly, then inspect Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System for display-driver errors.
- Bad Image after installation: confirm that the package matches the GPU, Windows version, and 64-bit application. Remove conflicting old driver components before reinstalling.
- Intel graphics is not required on this computer: check whether the application is still loading an obsolete Intel component after a hardware change or failed uninstall.
- Crashes continue after driver repair: investigate GPU hardware, overheating, RAM, recent Windows changes, and application compatibility rather than deleting the named DLL.
FAQ
Is igdrcl64.dll safe?
It is a legitimate Intel graphics OpenCL user-mode driver component when it comes from the Intel or OEM driver package and has the expected signature. A copy in an unrelated folder needs verification.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Is it a Visual C++ Redistributable file?
No. Visual C++, DirectX, and .NET are not the normal source of this particular DLL.
Why does a non-Intel program request it?
The program may use Intel graphics acceleration or OpenCL even though Intel did not develop the application. The request does not mean the application itself installed the correct driver.
Can I use igdrcl32.dll instead?
No. The 32-bit and 64-bit files are different components. Use the architecture required by the application and the complete matching graphics package.
Will SFC restore the file?
Not necessarily. SFC repairs protected Windows files. A missing or damaged Intel Driver Store package generally requires an Intel or OEM graphics-driver installation.
