igdumdim64.dll is a genuine 64-bit Intel graphics-driver component, and missing-file errors usually mean the driver installation is incomplete, damaged, mismatched, or quarantined. The safest fix is to reinstall the correct Intel graphics package, preferably from your laptop or computer manufacturer, rather than downloading a loose DLL.
What this file actually does
igdumdim64.dll is a user-mode display driver module for Intel Graphics Technology. Windows and graphics applications load it when they need Intel GPU acceleration for games, 3D rendering, video playback, or other graphics operations.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
It is supplied through an Intel graphics driver package. It is not a Visual C++ Redistributable file, DirectX runtime, .NET component, or ordinary standalone application DLL. The installed copy may be stored in Windows driver locations or under C:WindowsSystem32, depending on the driver generation and installation.

These messages are generic Windows loader messages. They do not prove that the game or application installed the DLL. A crash mentioning the file is also different from a missing-file dialog: the file may be present but failing during graphics operations.
Fix 1: Reinstall the correct Intel graphics driver
This is the most reliable repair for a missing or unloadable igdumdim64.dll.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →On a laptop or branded desktop, use the manufacturer’s support page first. OEM graphics packages may include custom power, display, docking, or switching behavior that a generic Intel package does not provide. On a self-built computer, use the Intel graphics driver package appropriate for the processor and Windows version.
Identify the installed Intel adapter
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Write down the exact Intel adapter name.
- Right-click the Intel adapter and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Record the Driver Provider, Driver Date, and Driver Version.
If the adapter has a warning icon, the driver is already reporting a device or installation problem. If Display adapters shows only Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, Windows is not currently using the normal Intel graphics driver.
Install the package
- Download the graphics driver from the computer manufacturer or Intel’s official driver support service.
- Close games and graphics applications.
- Run the installer as an administrator if Windows requests permission.
- Choose the clean-install option if the installer provides Execute a clean installation.
- Complete the installation and restart Windows.
- Open Device Manager again and confirm that the Intel adapter appears without a warning icon.
- Start the affected game or application.
A successful repair normally removes the loader message and restores normal hardware-accelerated graphics. Do not compare the file by size or version with a random online copy. There is no single version, size, or path that applies to every Intel GPU and Windows release.
If the normal installer fails, perform a more complete removal:

Manually hunting through several driver branches and guessing which one matches the GPU can make this repair repetitive. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan shows what it identifies, while driver installation through the full version is optional. It is not required, and the OEM package remains the preferred choice for many laptops.
Fix 2: Roll back a recent graphics update
If igdumdim64.dll started failing immediately after Windows Update, an Intel driver update, or a graphics software update, the new driver may be incompatible with the application.
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the Intel adapter and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver.
- Choose a reason when prompted.
- Select Yes, then restart Windows.
The rollback button may be unavailable if Windows has no previous driver package. In that case, download the previous compatible driver from the computer manufacturer, uninstall the current package, and install the older one.

If rolling back fixes one older game but creates problems elsewhere, the application may need an official update or compatibility patch. Do not copy individual files from the older driver into the newer one.
Fix 3: Check Windows Update
Windows may have a pending display-driver or component update.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Open Advanced options and check Optional updates if available.
- Install a relevant display-driver update only if it matches your system.
- Restart Windows.
If the error returns after Windows replaces the driver, install the OEM package and use the rollback procedure above. Microsoft’s Windows Update instructions explain the standard update path.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have removed the file after identifying a suspicious or damaged driver component.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any detection related to the Intel graphics driver.
- Do not restore or allow the file immediately.
- Verify that the file belongs to the Intel driver installation and that the detection is a false positive.
- If it is not clearly authentic, leave it quarantined and reinstall the graphics driver from the OEM or Intel source.
- Run a full scan after reinstalling.
Microsoft documents this area in its Protection History guidance. Do not broadly disable antivirus protection or whitelist an unverified DLL.
If you suspect malware, run Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Full scan. For persistent concerns, use Microsoft Defender Offline. A copy of igdumdim64.dll inside an application’s private folder, a temporary directory, or a download location deserves extra scrutiny, especially if it is unsigned or has an unexpected publisher.

Fix 5: Repair Windows component files
Windows corruption can prevent a driver or one of its dependencies from loading. Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows files. SFC may not replace a third-party Intel driver file if that file is not a protected Windows component, so a graphics-driver reinstall is still necessary when the Intel package itself is damaged. Follow Microsoft’s DISM and System File Checker instructions if either command reports an error.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing which component changed can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what it identifies; repair through the full version is optional, and these steps are not required to use Microsoft’s built-in commands.
Fix 6: Restore the system after a known change
Use System Restore if the error began after a driver installation, Windows change, or software installation and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows key, type
Create a restore point, and open it. - Select System Restore.
- Choose Next.
- Select a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not normally remove personal documents, but it can remove recently installed drivers and applications. Back up important work first. Microsoft describes the process in its System Restore documentation.

If Windows and other graphics applications work but one older game fails, the problem may be application-specific.
- Open the game launcher.
- Find the game’s Manage, Properties, or Settings menu.
- Select Verify, Repair, or Verify integrity of files.
- Let the launcher replace damaged files.
- Install the game’s official updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the game again.
An old DirectX game may be incompatible with a newer Intel driver, or it may crash because of shaders, overlays, unsupported display settings, overclocking, or hardware instability. A crash stack naming igdumdim64.dll does not prove that the DLL is missing or defective.
Reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET is usually irrelevant to a direct igdumdim64.dll loader error. Install those runtimes only if the same application reports a separate runtime problem. Enabling random Windows Features will not replace an Intel graphics-driver module.
Why DLL download sites and regsvr32 are poor fixes
Do not download igdumdim64.dll from a random DLL site and place it in System32 or the game directory. The copy may contain malware, target the wrong architecture, belong to a different driver branch, or lack the dependencies and catalog information required by the complete driver package. Manual copying can also leave the Windows Driver Store inconsistent.

regsvr32 is not a normal repair for this file. That command is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A user-mode Intel graphics driver module is not normally repaired by registering it. Running regsvr32 igdumdim64.dll is therefore unlikely to fix a missing, mismatched, or corrupted graphics driver.

If the repair still fails
Collect these details before making further changes:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 version
- Exact Intel GPU model
- Laptop or desktop manufacturer and model
- Exact error text
- Full path shown for the file, if any
- Installed graphics-driver version
- Affected game or application
- What changed immediately before the error
- Whether the file is present and digitally signed
- Any recent Defender detection
If every reinstall fails, test from Safe Mode, remove conflicting graphics-driver remnants using a reputable documented procedure, reinstall the OEM package, and inspect Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System. Also check the application’s crash log.
If the issue began after a major Windows change and no compatible driver works, System Restore or an OEM recovery and repair option may be appropriate. Back up personal files before using recovery tools.
FAQ
Is igdumdim64.dll safe?
It is a genuine Intel graphics-driver component when it comes from the expected driver installation and has a valid Intel digital signature. Its location, signature, and installation source matter. A copy in an application folder or temporary directory is more suspicious than the copy installed by the graphics-driver package.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDoes Windows install this file?
Windows may contain or reference the installed driver while updating the system, but igdumdim64.dll is supplied as part of an Intel graphics driver package. It is not a general Windows application DLL.
Can I use igdumdim32.dll instead?
No. A 32-bit module does not replace the compatible 64-bit module required by a 64-bit process. Install the complete driver package instead of mixing individual files.
Should I reinstall DirectX or Visual C++?
Usually not for this error alone. Those runtimes can cause separate application errors, but they do not normally restore an Intel graphics-driver module.
What if the file exists but the program still says it is missing?
The message may refer to a missing dependency, wrong architecture, damaged driver package, or incompatible version. Reinstall the complete driver rather than copying another DLL beside it.
What if the game crashes while naming igdumdim64.dll?
Treat that as a crash investigation, not automatically as a missing-file repair. Update or roll back the Intel driver, verify the game files, remove overlays and overclocks, and check for application patches.
