What actually separates a gaming setup from a standard one?
The label alone does not establish better comfort, performance or suitability. Compare the complete workstation: the desk surface and legroom, the chair’s support and adjustments, and how your monitor, keyboard and mouse fit together. A gaming-oriented design or included feature is worth considering as a preference, not as proof of ergonomic benefit.
IKEA sells gaming desks, chairs, accessories and combinations, but assortment varies by country. Its Sweden gaming furniture category shows examples including UTESPELARE, FREDDE and HUVUDSPELARE, along with LÅNESPELARE accessories and desk-and-chair sets. Check your local IKEA site for current products and terms.
What does IKEA’s U.S. set include?
The IKEA U.S. UTESPELARE/MATCHSPEL set listing is a specific example, not a universal offer. It lists a 63-by-31.5-inch desk and a MATCHSPEL chair with a 21.25-inch seat width, an 18.5-to-23.25-inch seat-height range and a tested load of 243 pounds. The page describes a mesh back, adjustable armrests and tilt-related features. Confirm details on the current local product page before buying.

IKEA says on that U.S. listing that the desk was tested for office use against EN 527-2 and ANSI/BIFMA X5.5, and the chair against EN 1335 and ANSI/BIFMA X5.1. These are product-page testing statements; they do not show that the set is better than standard furniture or fits every user. IKEA also lists a UTESPELARE/STYRSPEL combination, which is another gaming-oriented option rather than comparative evidence.

OSHA states: “A chair that is well-designed and appropriately adjusted is an essential element of a safe and productive computer workstation.” Its guidance treats the chair as part of the workstation, alongside the desk, monitor and keyboard—not as a standalone solution.

- Adjust the chair for back support, relaxed shoulders, elbows close to the body and straight wrists.
- Check that your feet rest flat on the floor or are stably supported, and that there is room under the desk for your legs.
- Place the monitor directly in front of you. OSHA’s desk guidance recommends a distance of at least 20 inches; this is general guidance, not a guarantee that a particular desk or distance suits every person.
- Arrange and adjust the chair, monitor, keyboard and desk together, using the OSHA evaluation checklist as a practical check rather than a diagnosis or promise of health outcomes.
A footrest is conditional, not a standard requirement. OSHA advises considering one if chair adjustment cannot provide stable foot support without leaving the keyboard or monitor too high, or if your feet do not rest flat because those components cannot be adjusted sufficiently. Consider the IKEA gaming set if its measured desk dimensions, chair adjustment range, stated features and appearance suit your body and room. Choose a standard desk and chair if they offer a more suitable surface, configuration or adjustment range. In either case, assess the chair, desk and computer placement as one workstation, then verify the current local listing and buying terms before committing.
