But the recruitment campaign was in 2024, not an open application opportunity established today: applications were scheduled for June 3–16, 2024, and the official Roblox listing currently says there are no running experiences.
What IKEA announced
IKEA UK announced The Co-Worker Game as a virtual IKEA store on Roblox, with a planned launch date of June 24, 2024. The experience was designed to let players explore store activities and career paths through game tasks. The announcement offered ten limited paid co-worker roles connected to the experience.
The recruitment terms were specific to the 2024 campaign: applicants had to be at least 18 and live in the UK or Ireland. IKEA said successful applicants would be paid £13.15 per hour, describing that figure as the London co-worker rate at the time. It is not a current wage quote or evidence of current hiring.
How applications worked
Applications were announced as open from June 3 through Sunday, June 16, 2024. Candidates were asked to complete a questionnaire and provide an updated CV; they could also submit videos. Shortlisted candidates would be invited to digital interviews.

IKEA’s official LinkedIn account later reported over 178,000 applications to become a paid player. That is IKEA’s reported campaign total, not an independently audited statistic.
What co-workers did in the game
The experience centered on two parts of an IKEA store: the showroom and the Swedish Bistro and Market. IKEA described activities that translated retail work into game tasks, alongside progression toward management roles.

Showroom
- Prepare the showroom for customers and keep it ready.
- Help customers find products and arrange room sets using IKEA furnishings.
- Progress toward an interior design manager role.
IKEA called out arranging virtual showrooms with its products, including a “HEMNES heaven.” This was part of the game’s setting, not a request or requirement to buy furniture.
Swedish Bistro and Market
- Keep the areas clean and customer-ready.
- Prepare or serve food.
- Take on team-management progression.
What “paid work on Roblox” meant
The paid co-worker positions were limited recruitment opportunities associated with the virtual store—not simply a promise that anyone playing Roblox would earn money. Roblox’s Q2 2024 earnings-call transcript also referred to IKEA’s Co-Worker as a virtual store where real-life employees worked, corroborating that the campaign involved real people.

IKEA’s announcement framed the experience as a way to show its approach to careers. Darren Taylor, IKEA UK and Ireland’s Country People and Culture Manager, said the company aimed to bring its career philosophy to life through the game, including the idea that workers can change roles and departments and grow in different directions. That is IKEA’s stated rationale, not independent evidence of career outcomes or proof that virtual duties matched a conventional store job.

The official Roblox listing snapshot says, “There are currently no running experiences.” This describes the listing at the time it was checked; it does not establish whether IKEA will relaunch the game. The 2024 application window has passed, and the available sources do not establish a current recruitment window or current pay terms.
