Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is an exploration-led action-adventure, not simply a shooter or a stealth game. It follows Indy through archaeological mysteries, puzzles and traps, while letting players use stealth, melee combat, occasional gunplay and his whip to get through trouble. The story takes place in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade.
What kind of game is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle?
The game is built around investigation and exploration: search environments, uncover secrets, solve puzzles and work through hazards as the story moves between locations. Action and stealth are part of that loop, but they do not define the whole experience. Its “old school adventure” character comes from the archaeological mystery, globe-spanning journey and emphasis on traps and puzzles.

The structure shifts between linear, narrative-driven sections and larger open-area maps. That mix gives the story room to move at a deliberate pace while allowing time to explore, find secrets and approach some encounters in different ways.

What is the story, and where does Indy go?
Set in 1937, the adventure falls between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Indy investigates the theft of an artifact connected to the Great Circle, a mystery that takes him to places including the Vatican, Egypt and Sukhothai. Bethesda’s official game page and the Xbox listing describe the premise and locations.

How do perspective and exploration work?
Play is primarily in first person, so exploration and encounters are seen from Indy’s viewpoint. MachineGames has said that key moments use third-person presentation, rather than keeping the entire game in one perspective. In an Xbox Wire interview, Game Director Jerk Gustafsson was asked about the rolling-boulder sequence and replied, “You’ll have to wait and see.”
Exploration is more than moving from fight to fight. The game’s open areas and narrative sections contain puzzles, traps and secrets, supporting a pace that can alternate between looking around, solving a problem and dealing with a threat.
How do the whip, stealth and combat fit together?
The whip serves as both equipment and a weapon. Bethesda describes it as useful for traversal, distraction, disarming opponents and attacks. The broader action mix includes stealth, melee and occasional gunplay, so not every obstacle calls for a firefight. You can use the tools available to handle enemies and move through the adventure rather than treating the game as a conventional shooter.
Who is likely to enjoy it?
TechRadar’s PS5 Pro review recommends the game to Indiana Jones fans and adventure players who enjoy exploration, puzzles, collectibles and improvised combat. That is the reviewer’s assessment, not a guarantee that every player will enjoy the same mix. The game’s emphasis on searching and puzzle-solving may suit players looking for an adventure first, while its stealth and combat give encounters a more action-oriented edge.
TechRadar also reports adjustable UI size and color, customizable subtitles and closed captions, and options to toggle motion blur and screen shake. These settings can help tailor parts of the presentation, though they do not establish that the game will meet every player’s accessibility needs. See the outlet’s PS5 Pro review for its review context and feature report.

Which platform and purchase option should you choose?
Bethesda lists purchase paths for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and PlayStation 5, and its official site announces availability on Nintendo Switch 2. Choose based on the hardware and storefront you already use, then confirm that the current listing is for the intended platform. The Xbox product page lists the base game as included with Game Pass; subscription terms and availability can change, so check the live listing before relying on access through a subscription.
Physical availability is not universal, and retailer stock and edition listings vary by region. Bethesda lists Amazon under the Xbox Series X|S edition section, but that does not guarantee a current listing, stock or a particular edition in your location. Check the retailer’s live product page before buying a physical copy.

Edition contents matter if you want more than the base game. Bethesda’s purchase page lists the available editions and contents, and says the Premium Upgrade does not include the base game. Compare the live listing for your platform rather than assuming an upgrade is a complete purchase.
The Order of Giants is a separate story DLC unless it is included in the edition you buy. Windows Central reports that the DLC is not included with Game Pass. Bethesda’s purchase page should be checked for current edition contents, while the Windows Central DLC coverage provides the subscription-related context.
Physical collectors may also encounter the Collector’s Bundle, which includes an 11-inch globe with hidden storage, an Allmaker relic replica, a jumbo SteelBook display case, an adventure journal and Premium Edition content. These are collectible extras, not a replacement for checking whether the game itself is included in the specific product listing.
